  1. it is down to the practioner, strategy and other factors that would come into play, i believe bjj would work best against most striking styles( karate, tkd, etc... but i also think that i would have trouble defeating such opponents as kajukenbo, silat, aikido students, because they would try to keep the fight standing, anyways, good thread
  2. the advice above is for those strikers that only want to familiarize themselves with the ground , otherwise learn some sufficient ground work
  3. yes that could be the case, but you will also have a limited submissions arsenal good against the average joe, like you should learn ,arm bar(mount) americana triangle choke rear naked choke arm bar (guard) these are good things to know if your a striker i would also suggest learning a throw or two,
  4. IM A CANADIAN!!!!!!TO THE RESCUE theres a school called KARMA martial arts, my master teaches there he teaches bjj and there is also a muay thai class, also there is a systema school forgot the name, but the teacher is vladimir vasiliev, both of these schools are very good hope this helps
  5. tito deserves what he has worked for, thats the bottom line, he trains very hard, in boxing, kick boxing, bjj, and wrestling and he is a skilled fighter, congratulations to him, he is one of the best i hope he beats the **** out of phil baroni i hate that guy

  7. can someone explain a sacrifice throw please thx?
  8. i studied northern seven stars, for a month, but it didn't suit me, although i found it to be an amazing martial art
  9. if i were you i would ditch the ninpo training, thats what i did and i didn't regret it, i switched into praying mantis, than after i tried that i took up bjj you have to have a passion for what you do , and what exactly do you study, gung fu AND ninpo????
  10. i'd like to know what a regular amount of sparring both striking and grappling should be, in my bjj class we spar for 6 rounds of 5 minutes each class and in the jkd class we spar for 2 or 3 rounds how often and what is the intensity of the sparring, what equipment is used, ( i use none except for nhb gloves+mouthpiece)
  11. I have the utmost respect for the kajukenbo karate system , even though im not too particularly fond of karate
  12. she has stayed away from me , and if she does want to roll with me i will take it up a notch and show that 120lbs itch what knee on belly feels like LOL
  13. DON'T USE THE F**CK**G CHOKE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO ,YOUR GONNA HURT SOMEONE, ITS NOT A JOKE
  14. they teach ankle locks and achillis locks in purple belt and heel hook, knee bars in brown, but thats only at really hardcore strict academies, no one actually follows those requirements, (maybe in brazil) i have been studying bjj for four months, and i know the ankle lock achillis lock knee bar
  15. i' have been in some situations where i needed to use knee-on- stomach position and cross side in real fights and people have tackled me in real fights, where i had to depend on my jj skills and other times i had to use my striking and throwing skills to defeat my opponent.
  16. SO I SHOULD HAVE LEG GO AS SOON AS I KNOW I GOT IT SECURE ok i understand, even though he didn't tap i still won , i understand
  17. praying mantis is a unique, chinese kung fu style, its strength lies in its practioners ability to use incredible speed , i will look into aikido also there are two aikido schools where i live and the "sensai" at one of them is said to have studied under "0 sensai" the dojo is called "aikido de la montagne" or in english aikido of the mountain, just thought you'd liek to know that kensai
  18. KIDNEY INFECTION , COMMON ? PHILM , YOU HEARD IT FOR YOURSLEF p.s. no one wants acne talk to your doctor
  19. i had a kneebar on the guy, this was my first time using one, and i started to apply pressure, but he wouldn't tap so i let go, because i was told, i could damage the knee withough any previous warning, like the guy could feel no pain than CRACK!!! IS THIS TRUE ?????
  20. i was taught to have a "safety zone" , In a "situation" i don't let the guy get more then punching range close to me, otherwise , i get very "uncomfortable" which results in him being very "uncomfortable" hahahahahah i never really learned knife or gun disarms so i think i handled the situation well
  21. magic chiong son , please do not stereotype like that please, im a pro bjj er and i surely don't believe all fights should go to the groung, i study muay thai and western boxing to incorporate into my bjj stand up game don't stereotype "chest thumping grapplers" , i haven't yet seen one of those guys in my bjj class
  22. I was at the subway the other day and this guy told my fried he was goin to stab him if he didn't give him his wallet, so I decided to handle the situation by briskly walking away, he followed us and reached into his pocket ,when he pulled out his hand, I immediatly kicked the objet out of it, turns out it was a butter knife, I used what I had learned in my blauer tactical systems training to handle the situation, for those of you who don't know what that is , its a canadian based, reality self-defense program, tonyblauer.com anyways, i was just curious how all of you would deal with a situation like this? would you be passive or agressive? would you have disabled him even before he took out the knife ? when he was following me ? i'd like to know your strategies ?
