Has China lost it's tradition?
Ali replied to yireses's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
In Chinese, when talking about martial art, the phrase "Chinese Kung Fu," and "Chinese Wu Shu" actually mean the same thing. As a Chinese, I would say phrase may be the same. But not now, Chinese Wu Shu that promoted by Mainland China government. They standardized Kung Fu in flowery way and emphasized on difficulities in "Form" on Jumping and standing one leg after making a difficult stance for 5 second e.g. Long Fist, Soutern Fist, Taiji Fist, stickplay, swordplay. Jet Li is 5 time overall champion for that kind of Wushu demo in China. Surely, he also practise some traditional Kung Fu and Sanda. This usually make foreigner besides Chinese puzzling. They use the same phrase e.g. "Taiji" of Wushu cannot fight but "Taiji" of Kung Fu can fight. To be simple, Kickboxing can fight but BoxFit for lady fitness is another thing. To me, Chinese Kung Fu should refer to those more traditional and combative martial art. -

(Just making an example) You never know whether if you can learn something.... -
Has China lost it's tradition?
Ali replied to yireses's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
In China, due to the political event for nearly 10 years for Cultural Revolution, many master fled to SE Asia, Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan. You can say some Kung Fu can be only seen beside China. The other question is about if Chinese would hide somethings for themselves? The answer is, to a great extent, positive. Not only to foreigner but also to Chinese if you are not so-called, "indoor student" or son of the master. Those technique may not be a stance, one punch technique or one kicking technique. Those so-called, "Secret technique" can be said to be more efficient way of training that can generate heavy punch. These usually related to "Chi" some time. If you think that foreigner go to Shaolin Temple to have 2 week course, 1 month course or even 3 year course that ensure Real Kung Fu. You are wrong then. This is only the way that they earn foreign currency. You can learn "Form' or "Kata" but not the underlying meaning. Even worse is those guy added in many Wushu form in training. To be simple, can you eat good steak in McDonald? -

Ali replied to Ali's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Five Brother Eight Trigram Stickplay is one of the Hung Gar Kung Fu.... And the so-called "Iron Line Fist" is, indeed, some part of Ten Animal style of Hung Gar. They are Dragon and Snake. To be a Liar, I can check out something.... -
There is a exercise for Chinese Kung Fu calling Pushing Mountain Palm. Dont care about name. Way of method: In racing horse stance, using a stone ball (in modern time may be a bowling ball is better) and placing a bit higher than waist and set a slope. Pushing the ball upslope and breathe out & relax to let the ball downslope. This help to generate muscle and explosive power. Of course, better with master instruction

Clinching on the street
Ali replied to STR33T GUY's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I am quite interested to know more about your new skill. If you can post some MPEG file would be great. For Muay Thai clinch, I think the next step is side step to make your opponent losing balance. And then with knee kick from your side. Of course, I also know that this may end up by taking down by your opponent and ending up with a leg lock. All thing can be possible anyway.... -

Yes, this really exists. Shaolin Dog Style is something about ground fighting, rolling on ground to throw kicking, scissor kick to take you down but please dont mix up with BJJ -

Thoughts on stances
Ali replied to Hudson's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I would say many Chinese martial art has hidden meaning behind the stance itself. Without the interpretation from the master, we would always see the apparent meaning. A "slam" with one leg on foot may be a kind of wrestling skill, A "palm" landed on the ground is to grab sand to attack people's eyes. You may find the movement strange if no one tell you. -
getting hit with lowkick
Ali replied to Icetuete's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
weird, i thought there would be some way to do it what about, lets say squats, that strenghten your legs? i thought if there would be more muscles or harder muscles, the kicks would be absorbed at least to a certain extend. yeah, that would be the best way - i know, but as i said there is no MT, Phillipino kb or Kyokushin school around you mean in a MT manner? or with those kicks i use in my tkd? since i dont know MT kicks very good besides, i dont have access to a heavy bag yet Icetuete, You said, "no MT, Phillipino kb or Kyokushin school around :(" Sorry to hear that. In my opinion, I think Kyokushin School way of blocking low kick is doing by side step and blocked by muscle. This cannot absorb much of low kick. For me, I prefer the MT way which is not just blocking by rising your shin. I knew the trick and repeatly practise for 2 months and then I know how to block. I am thinking how to explain this by wording now (may post later) Anyone know if Phillipino KB block low kick same as MT????
