Living in Hong Kong, I think more and more people doing Muay Thai instead of Boxing here. For Fitness mainly and even for Youth. No longer getting bad image of being brutal, Muay Thai is now florishing in Gym. Boxing? No way, very few people know Boxing here. Maybe just 2 or 3 gym really know Boxing. After throwing 1 - 2 punch, they follow by a low kick. Combo of boxing is not that common. Kung Fu in Hong Kong? Only Wing Chun get more popularity. Other Chinese Kung Fu is dying off

No, No matter you are doing Karate, TKD, Muay Thai or what.... One should be open-minded even when you are Sifu. Everyone can be hitted. But if one is being hitted 5 times by same technique and same position. This should be more aware of that sort of technique. No one should addict to just one's own system. Be open-mind.... That kind of story can happen to the Sifu and may also happen to other people studying the same art. What is the problem to be open-minded? I remember in one article in a magazine claiming that one Pro Kick-boxer in his gym is confident that he can be avoided Take-down by one single upper cut or low kick. Then he tried that with other fellow in his gym and know the truth is not as easy as what they thought. Result is that all kick boxer in his gym went for cross training in ground fight.

Recently, I heard from my friend that he was playing a friendly visit to a Wing Chun coach. And maybe need to take some video also so as to explain how Wing Chun defense from being attack. When asking if any rehearal needed or form planned demo, like my friend using simple straight punch like karate, the coach said, "Wing Chun needs no rehearal, just do whatever you can." Result turned to be quite embarrasing when the coach was being hitted 5 times by the same action like Sao (哨拳) of Choy Li Fut. Surely, the failure shoot has not been recorded or even if, my friend would prefer to delete this. Of course, my friend did not close his fist to make punch but using palm. Otherwise, this would hurt more. Now, come to the point for Wing Chun people. How often that you play with other style? And have you ever deal with Sao, a kind of diagonal outstretch punching of fist and forearm from 1:30 o'clock to 7:30 o'clock or even simply a Right hook from Boxing?

I have learnt that before. About 1-1/2 years. 1. Types this word, "Yiquan" or "Yi quan" or "意拳" in Yahoo China. Many people is teaching in Beijing now. Of course, some good, some bad. You can learn more about this kind of boxing. They also got some short course. To me, better to learn this than Newly made form from Shaolin Temple 2. Zhan Zhuang (Standing stance) is only one part of training but the core part. And Yiquan or Da Shing Fist is useful or not. This can be easily judged that Kyokushin has added this into their training and restricted only those getting Black belt dan 2 to learn. This really helps a lot in relaxation of musle that may generate dramatic power, reaction during combat and etc. 3. Personally, I would say that if you want to learn combat. Better not to learn Yiquan, that is a long and boring process if you are patient enough. You take about 3 years or more to generate power from the whole body. But if you want to be healthy, that is very easy. Only 1 month, you can get that. May help much on your balance and concentration during combat. However, never thought of getting those dramatic power from it so soon. That involves many training and depends on whether if your body are "PREPARE"

Number of Forms??
Ali replied to nanfeishen's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Frankly speaking, the fewer form the school have, the easier the school to promote. You can see Wing Chun got usually 3 fist form, 1 knife form, 1 stickplay and 1 wooden dummy. Taking seven star praying mantis as an example, indeed, many form from 1 st form to 2 nd form are usually duplicated the technique and may be added only 1 special technique that 1 st form do not have. This may be good to set a good foundation in ancient time. But in modern world, is it still workable? I am not sure. -
Are you composing story or novel?

Choy Lay Fut vs. Muay Thai
Ali replied to Infrazael's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Frontal trusting kick? Is it something like Chinese Axe kick 斧刃腳? I think this works only with shoes with very hard bottom BTW, instead of saying right or wrong, I think you can spar with some friends who learn Muay Thai. Then you can find out the possibilities and effectiveness. Kicking the ball is by chance only. And to destroy knee? I have to check this out again. Anyway, I would meet my WC friend this Sunday -
Wing Chun Website
Ali replied to Ali's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Ip Chun is a very active old man and usually wear track suit I do not know him very much though I meet him very often because in same area. Ip Ching is an open-minded master I think because he dont mind if you train in other martial art. Very nice person.
