Stance training (zhan zhuang)
Ali replied to gunit's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I played Yi quan before. Still doing this some time. My longest record for Zhan Zhuang is 45 minutes. (Not in very tense and stress situation) Unable to generate dynamic power from that, I have better concentration during sparring in MT. -

Hi, Ovine king Aren't you Chinese? If the answer is positive, you know the meaning of "Ox skin Lantern" -
Agreed with nanfeishen, I lived in Hong Kong and some time I need to travel to China for business cause. Mcdojo is also flooding in China. In China, there is higher chance that you can learn 2 things: a) Modern Wushu - Flowery standardized Kung Fu promoted by communist b) Sanda - Chinese way of free fighting For traditional Kung Fu style, I think you need to do some more research before you go there. After cultuarl revolution, all monks fled and escape from Shaolin temple. What have left after the political event is some kind of Chi Kung in hard way & newly composed so-called "Shaolin" style similar to Wushu. Good luck

No la. Ba gua Palm/Guan (Eight Trigram Fist/Palm) Another style of Chinese Kung Fu. Ba gua is emphasis on the circular footstep and scarely dare with opponent on the front side. Baji Guan is more linear movement and emphasis on the application of elbow and somewhat like Xiang-I. kzshin's saying is right. Even the last emperor of Qing dynasty learnt Bajii. The most powerful fist in Chinese Kung Fu....I dont think so. But a handful that still keep the "Fa jin"

How to hit the nerve/pressure point on the arm
Ali replied to ShotokanKid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Doing push-up by finger. But if your finger is not well-condition enough, then trying to do that against the wall first. You may also use some glass container for peanut butter or Jam. Fill in some water (depending on your ability to fill how much) Grab the mount of the container. Make the container up and down to practice your waist and grabbing power. This helps to grab for any kind of capture skill or pressure point -

monkey kungfu
Ali replied to Son Goku the monkeyking's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Shaolin again? I dont want to say anything about this, traditionally, Shaolin do have Monkey style. But now, many animal style in Shaolin is newly composited with many nonesense movement and have no relation with real combat. For example, Eagle Boxing for that type may have two arm up to pretend the eagle wing. Real Eagle boxing is kind of boxing involve capturing skill. But that stance seem like to be captured Real monkey boxing exist in many different schools, But usually may involve ground fighting, scissor leg and etc. -

Chinese Kung Fu population
Ali replied to Ali's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
What is your city? What is your country? Thanks! -
In Hong Kong, I think no doubt if only counting Chinese Kung Fu in 2005, Wing Chun should have over 80% or more. (Not counting Karate, TKD, Muay Thai, Judo, BJJ) But in the past, I mean before 1973. Choy Lee Fut got over 80% Even Tai Chi, Hung Gar, Ba Meil, White Crane, Dragon stance, Praying Mantis and etc have more students than Wing Chun What is Chinese Kung Fu population in your cities?

Proper Kung Fu Salute ..
Ali replied to iron duckee's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
when thought of/used as such, yeah. a lot of the flowery "ornamental" openers of kung fu forms have practical applications Form or Kata has their pracitical use. But if no expert inform you the main point of how to use that technique. Then this is flowery Just like in BJJ, even with the whole clip from Top mount to arm bar, you may not do this well. -

The stance is already a joint locking technique or block and punch if you can understand the meaning. Maybe more. -
https://www.tfkc.com Taiwan start the no-hold barred competition. Surely, the standard cannot be compared to that of UFC in US and Pride in Japan. But anyway, good starting
