One Inch Punch
Ali replied to BKJ1216's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Yes, What make Inch punch famous is Bruce Lee. As monkey girl said that is only for demonstration purpose. Indeed, Wing Chun emphasis "Inch power" that is generated under the smooth tranfer of power under correct stance, from leg, waist, back, shoulder, elbow and then to reach the fist in the same direction. Power in this way can be heavy and penetrate. -
Using crane stance as example. Crane stance is not something you see "Tekken" or "Karate Kid" 1 to stand on one-leg to kick other. White crane is one of fighting school. To hold 5 finger together to make crane mouth which head for eye, temple and other weak point of body. This doesn't always mean that if one use crane mouth, I cannot open your palm to parry or punch. As for monkey style, I saw my friend demonstrating how the system works. This is a style that usually target for the lower part of opponent. He may roll to throw a kick from the ground or block your leg and grasp you losing balance. Of course, this is only part of it. Meanwhile, this don't always mean the guy should stick to the ground. Even in Mainland China or someone claimed from Shaolin "invade" their animal's style. You can see one as Shotokan_Karate0 said monkey bouncing around or even worse they pretend to peep off "imaginary peanut". These are what we called "Modern Kung Fu" forming after the Cultural Revolution in China For traditional Eagle stance, indeed this is a school of boxing which emphasis on capturing skill. But this doesn't mean they cannot punch or attack with finger. But "Eagle stance" in "Modern Kung Fu", you may see a guy standing on 1 leg, sitting on as much as one can and putting both arms back to act like a Eagle. Of course, this is not a stance to relate with real combat. This is difficult to tell what is real or unreal. But this is to remember the more one guy acting like an animal, the more new the form is.

Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan
Ali replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Light Fighter Zero, Fine la, Someone even hold press conference to clarify the situation. That few thousand dollars are for girl to see doctor. Shout loudly that "I am on the stage, no one should approach closer me for 3 feet, otherwise you are asking for injuiry." Surrounded by some stuntmen and refuse to answer anything he don't like. Acting arrogant and angrily to blame that the press should not broadcast his dishonour stuff. -
Anyone like to play net game. My favourite game is 1942 (Road to Rome) I like to be sniper and hide somewhere to snipe other....

I am not trying to insult anyone. But be careful, I see some tapes broadcasting about Chinese Kung Fu with animal styles is unreal. I forget about the name of that tape but the tape is to introduce martial art around the world and interview many martial artists, TDK, Karate coach, Wing Chun teacher and so on. In middle of that tape, a Chinese with little pigtail demonstrated with his Black student the application of Dragon, Tiger, Crane, Snake and Leopard one-by-one. His black student throw slowly typical Kungfu or Karate straight punch and stopped. That Chinese do 3 or 4 silly move to finish his attack and screaming on the same time. Later, he demonstrates his big mixture of animal styles, probably 7 - 8 animail syle in a form lasted only 1 mins. Just like Chinese herb can be treasure, but if you are not familiar with that would be easily cheated. Good Luck everybody. Hope that this is not a trend.

I got 1 wooden samurai sword, 1 long bamboo bo from which I only do parry, capture and attack. I think my biggest weapon is always being humble to learn new thing

Knee from Clinch. If doing sparring under Sanda rule, I would sweep other' leg if control by opponent' neck wrestling. I would probably block the knee with both hands and take the chance to sweep his balancing leg. Of course, my forearm can bear only 2 to 3 knee even I do some Wing Chun to strengthen them. Besides competition, I usually would not do that. Too dangerous. From sparring with my friend, they have their way to tackle neck wrestling and then body slam. He is doing Baji Fist. If in real fight, I would prefer a combo of Thai low kick to Knee kick without clinch. Step back and keep puching.

For me, I would prefer to take a long umbrella than using nunchuck as weapon. This looks cool but only good to deal with a bare-hand guy

Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan
Ali replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
And I am not sure about western ethnic. Fooling around with girls may be fine even with a wife. But if someone make one's girlfriend pregnant but throw some thousand dollars to ask the girls to get rid of the thing. Should this guy be respected??? Condom is not that expensive. Baby came out at last. -
Hi, short stick Escrima! We also got a friend playing double short stick. But he always go "kill" when the other hold Long & Board Blade (western type), even not so long as Japanese sword. Of course, this is nice to see him fight with Wing Chun Butterfly blade (2 short weapon ) Hello, Andrew Green I agreed with you footstep is very important. And yes, short weapon can get inside. But this first you need to escape from first and maybe second attack of the long weapon.

Even being a Chinese, I cannot reply when Chinese imitate animal to form Kung Fu style. But if written information, this need to trace back to East Hon Dynasty (1st century), a famous doctor imitate birds' movement to form "5 bird play" <---- literal translation. which is some sort of "Chi" Kung. And later many Kung Fu master also imitate different animals. Even same animal can enlighten many guy. For example, praying mantis can divide into South and North. And later become 7 or 8 school. All their founders are from different origin. In my best knowledge, Hung Kar have 10 animals, namely, Dragon, Snake, Tiger, Leopard, Crane, Lion, Elephant, Horse, Monkey, Bill <--- (I don't know how to type this, this is only sound, a legendary animal of small size tiger with wings) Hsieng-I also has some different animal like Bear and swallow. Shaolin also has Dog-Fist. which is emphasis on ground-fight. Unlike BJJ, this would not go into mount or guard. But with something like swissor-leg and low kick. In short, I am not trying to insult anyone. But be careful, I see some tapes broadcasting about Chinese Kung Fu with animal styles is unreal. I forget about the name of that tape but the tape is to introduce martial art around the world and interview many martial artists. In middle of that tape, a Chinese with little pigtail demonstrated with his Black student the application of Dragon, Tiger, Crane, Snake and Leopard one-by-one. His black student throw slowly a typical Kungfu or Karate straight punch and stopped. That Chinese do conservatively 3 or 4 silly move to finish his attack and screaming on the same time. Later, he demonstrates his big mixture of animal styles, probably 7 - 8 animail syle in a form lasted only 1 mins. Just like Chinese herb can be treasure, but if you are not familiar with that would be easily cheated. Good Luck everybody.

Staff is good. By the way, I also learnt a form of Shaolin Stick-Play before. This is good for training your flexibility of both hand.

Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan
Ali replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Hi, Light Fighter Zero Without going into Kung Fu aspect. Anyway, Bruce is many of our idol. Jackie's fame is not that good in Hong Kong. -
Hi, Tobias_Reece Thank you. Do you know your Kumite is from which ancient Japanese school? Hello, Andrew. Wow, I see your website. I think we doing similar thing. Only difference is we would take Chinese sword vs Japanese sword, Spear vs Double Chinese blades and so on. Longer the weapon is; the safer the person is.

Personally, I don't fully believe No touch "KO". But in China, some Chinese Kung Fu may consider this is possible. Always these may involve Chi Kung, Qi Kung or internal breathing control. Certain training like "Well hitting kung" or "Candle light hitting kung" This is traditional training of Shaolin also. But usually they emphasis this may take over 10 or even 25 years hard work to success. Surely, I think this may be possible since potential power of human being has not fully exploited. But first, no one would spend long time to prove this. Second, incorrect or overload practise of Chi Kung for No-touch KO may lead to irritate the electrial current of body or "Chi". This may lead to mental illness.

Your favourite technique(s)

1 - 2 punch and double hand takedown -
Hello all! What do you all think about Chinese Kung Fu' essence? I would deny Chinese Kung Fu is good-for-nothing. And I think the only thing that I treasured most is the training of "Fa Jin". Way of enforcing whole body power. There is Chinese Kung Fu saying that "Practising Form without "Kung", nothing left when getting old; Practising Kung without "form", nothing it is but a coxless boat." "Kung" is the relaxation training to generate dynamic power of whole body. "Form" is set of fighting method. What is your opinion? What benefit you in Chinese Kung Fu training?

Thank you all reply! I need to say sorry for my bad English first. Hope you can understand what I said. I am not an expert in weapon. And just learning some japanese sword in akido and Chinese spear. But this is lucky enough that I met a friend who gathered group of people, holding some "fake" weapon but with same weight and balancing and have sparring. He made Japanese sword, Chinese blade, spear and so on. This is funny Hi! Jerry What weapon you take??? Real one or "faked one" Tobias_Reece I and 2 step, you mean defense and attack? Zai? Is it folk-like japanese weapon? KSN Doug Wow! Where you lived??? Zero, Nice to meet you

How to tackle Thai low kick
Ali replied to Ali's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Thank you for all your reply. I take Chinese martial art and Muay Thai also. Of course, I learnt the technique of chin block in Muay Thai and been spending 2 - 3 months to grasp the way to minimize force of Thai Low Kick. I start this post only I am interested to know if there is other option on Low kick for MA beside Muay Thai. Before I tried to adopt Chin block when I am doing Wing Chun. But the art has its own stance to fight, Chin block movement already destroy to way of Wing Chun' punching. Hence, I am looking for option and may try when doing sparring with my friends. Thank you all -
A question about Mauy Thai
Ali replied to Tweedy's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Hello, I think this is easy to find Lau Gar information in website. Lau Gar is being one of 5 mainstream southern boxing schools. They are namely, Hung, Lau, Choi, Lee and Mok. Compared with Hung Gar, Lau Gar with closer attack range. But now Lau Gar almost disappeared in Hong Kong while maybe still some in South East Asia or Guangdong Province in China. Anyway, I am always thinking that Wing Chun is the most suitable martial art for girl. Muay Thai for girl? I don't think so. -
Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan
Ali replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
No doubt, Bruce Lee would win. Refer to Kicker's saying, both look awesome in movie. But what make Jackie Chan's action quick is by moving the film quickly. What Jackie Chan practise is called Northern style which is for show in Peking or Beijing Opera with many jumping or rolling on ground action. Surely, he can fight. Jackie devote his time on designing how to make action seemingly good. While Bruce Lee spent his time to find the most practical way of fighting. -
"The Quest" Snake Style
Ali replied to Frosty's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I haven't seen the movie so not quite sure about the movement. I thought animal style in westerner' eye is something impractical. Snake Fist is one of the animal style in Chinese martial art world. Snake Fist itself seldom form a single style or school. But many style or Kar has this, e.g Hung Kar, Choy Li Fut & so on. Usually snake fist would parry and attack human's weak point like thoat, eye, heart, lung and joint between bone. People doing snake fist usually need to practise iron palm so as to strengthen the finger bone. -
