  1. Thank you all for your warm welcome!!! Nice to meet you all Hi, Ender. Yi Quan is the pioneer to uphold "Formless" in Chinese martial art world. Maybe 40 year earlier than Bruce Lee. But unlike Bruce, the founder, Huang, set up a whole system with the final aim to generate "dynamic power" or power given out by whole body in more scientific way by relaxation move like Tai Chi. But I can say there is no flowery skill, no animal form or jumping kick. Practical stuff is always boring. I has been studying Yi Quan and Muay Thai the same time before. Surely, I am unable to give out that "dynamic power" in real fight. But training in Yiquan help me to have good balance and concentration when I have sparring. You can go in more detail in https://www.yiquan.net for more information.
  2. I am not quite sure about what stance you mentioned. But I supposed this is kind of throwing skill or way of practicing force of certain direction of throwing skill. Many Chinese martial art stance is usually with hidden meaning. Sometime you need to ask your master to clarify "those meanings" Show the picture on this board so more people can comment on this
  3. Sorry, I mean BJJ movie. Some time my brain do not well connect with my hand

  6. Hi, everybody. I am new here. Born in Hong Kong, I started my MA when I am quite late. (at the age of 20) Boxing of Eagle is the MA I tried, that helped me in learning some Chin Na. But fail to remember all stance, I quit. Later, I do some Yiquan, Akido, Muay Thai. And now I am taking BJJ class. Anyway, nice to see this forum
  7. Gung Fu = Kung Fu In Chinese, the term "Kung Fu" mean skillful. If you are good at making wooden table, people would also say that you have good "Kung Fu". But I think for westerners, Kung Fu would mean Chinese method of martist art. Kung Fu is not a form or school of fighting method but just a general term of thousand schools of Chinese martial art. Wing Chun is being only one of the fighting method of Chinese Kung Fu. And what makes this well-known. Nobody would deny the status of Bruce Lee on this. Or we could go into some of development of Chinese Kung Fu in China. In 1949, the Chinese Communist Party becomes the ruling party. Another group fled to Taiwan for the fear of being accused of anti-revolutionaries. Among these people, some great martial artists also fled to Taiwan, Hong Kong, South East Asia and etc. Later, during the Cultural Revolution between 1966 - 1976 caused by Mao, many great martial artists in China were accused to be old traditional cultural stuff, "toxic" to Communist revolution and were humilated, in jail or even got killed. When the end of political movement, the Chinese communist parties started to re-focus on Kung Fu. Using another term Wushu to represent Chinese martist art, "Wushu" in Chinese mean "fighting technique" "Wu" in single has a deep meaning. To stop conflict is "Wu" Chinese communist party would standardize the "Wushu". Taking one of northern fighting style in China to form "Long Fist", Chinese communist government ignored fighting essence. "South Fist" was also formed by taking some hand-techique from Hung Gar, Choy Li Fut and other southern school, "Simplfied Taiji", "Sword play", "Stick play" were also standardized for easier judgement for the sake of gold medal. These were all you can see so-called "Modern Wushu" or "Sport Wushu". With a guy jumping here and there, people would say these stuff are "flowery style" and yes these are. For animal styles, taking monkey style as example, modern monkey style you can see some nonse behaviour like peeping off peanut in the form. Is this related to fighting? NO!!! How about real fighting combat? Yes, San shou is formed on 1983 with stupid rule on that moment. Wrestling skill score 3 marks, punch 1 mark, kick 1 mark. No conservative punching on head that mean if you throw 1 punch on head, the other punch should be on body. In short, no 1-2 punch, no jab and hook. Even crazy, not allowed to have heavy punch on head Competitor need to wear body shelter, helmet, shin pad. This is until 1990, no conservative punching rule is deleted. Recently, all protector, helmet and shin pad are allowed taking away. In short, Wu shu in China can be divided into "Wu Shu" just form like dancing and "San Shou", Chinese way of free fighting. How about traditional fighting school or Gar? With no government sponsor, not quite easy to develop. coz Chinese Kung Fu have so many different schools. Hope these information help
  8. 趙家太祖拳 Just would like to know if anyone here know about this school or learn this? I have typed Chinese word on top of this message but I am not sure if you quy can see that or not. Thanks in advance
  9. Hello, everybody. I am interested in all sort of MA, Choy Li Fuk, Akido, Muay Thai, Yiquan. Sometime we would book a dancing room, have gathering and done some free-fighting. Surely some of them are great in "Jin" and deliver very heavy punch or palm from their Kung Fu stance. But it seems that Thai low kick is usually a big headache for my friends. Any suggestion or advice from your experience? Thanks in advance!!!
  10. The development of Chinese Kung Fu was needed to trace back to 600 BC or maybe earlier. (Just with written record, same century for the book Ancient Art of War written by Sun Zhi) There was already swordmans holding relatively wider sword than Chinese sword you guy see in "Crouching Tiger and Hidden Tiger" (Background for that is already Qing Dynasty, man with pigtails, 1700 AC) Those swordmans struggled for fame and money from all Kings. (China was by that time dominated by 7 major empire) These swordmans were mainly security guard for those Kings. Common soldier usually held weapon with wooden stick with L-shape blade. (You can refer to movie "Hero" acted by Jet Li, Donnie Yan, Maggie Cheung and Cheung Zhi Yi later) Undoubtedly, Do mo, the Indian guy was believed to teach some breathing techique to Shaolin on 6 century. And indeed, the system was enriched by warriers, securtity guards or even generals. They got their own Kung Fu skill and later become monks because of brutal killing on their career. Shaolin temple, passing their Kung Fu skill, was one of their option to be monks. While some become Taoist.... And meanwhile, some gar (school) even with their great Kung Fu skill, would claim themselve coming from Shaolin to increase their Kung Fu market value (Maybe continue)
  11. See from other website??? Chinese Martial Arts Banned MMA Weekly reader Mark Toporov of New York sent us this bizarre tidbit. "Hey guys I read you everdady and my state of New York is the dumbestever as the Chinese MMA art of San Shou is now illegal in NY state. Please read the bottom and have all readers complain to the New York State Athlethic Commission." "The following is being sent to all Chinese Martial arts organizations since recent changes in New Yorks State law have made ALL Chinese martial art competitions which include point sparring, continuous sparring. Shuai Chiao, Chi Sau, push hands and San Shou ILLEGAL. The amendment to the current sports law (Section 5A) states that the only legal "martial arts" competition will be ones sanctioned by organizations on the State Athletic Commission's approval list:. This list is US Judo Association US Judo Inc. US Judo Federation US Tae Kwon Do Union North American Sport Karate Association USA Karate Foundation

And when this turn into some sort of "Show" just as WWF (Of course, this is big business and interesting) Can anybody tell me more, Thanks!
  13. Hello, everybody. Can anyone tell me about development of wrestling in USA. How many style or division? In my knowledge, I only either know about WWF or some sort of International Wrestling (with 2 guy compete in a Circle) Any famous organisation? In China, wrestling mainly divide into 4 styles, namely, Beijing, Tianjin, Po Ting & Mongolian style. Around 17 Century, Qing Dynasty even set up institution in Royal Palace as one of security sections. Of course, wrestling generate much earlier and even date back to BC. Thanks in advance.
