Choy Lay Fut vs. Muay Thai
Ali replied to Infrazael's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Why blocking? Because everyone has the chance to be hit. Blocking is one of the option you need to know unless you said that I am very fast and never encounter that situation. Kick in his ball? This rests on the point about possibilities and effectiveness. Muay Thai usually would use left push kick to keep you from the distance before applying right low kick. Push kick makes the opponent lose balance. Of course, sometimes would be 1-2 punch and follow by right low kick. BTW, I do sparring with my Wing Chun friends sometime and indeed 3 kicking techniques of Wing Chun cannot have very effect in tackling MT low kick. But I have to admit that elbow force generated from Wing Chun can be merit in Muay Thai neck wrestling. -

Then you'll probably have to worry about CLF even more with Baji Quan. CLF is a southern longfist style. . . . . . we can fight close if we want to, but our speciality lies in smashing your guard and body from far away. As to Muay Thai, I also think their low kicks are my biggest problems. We don't kick very often in CLF; my question to Thai boxers if how do you counter the low kick??? ****Chin Block is the way how the Muay Thai would use to encounter low kick**** Nothing is more effective and simple than that. Till now, I have only seen 1 Kung Fu master can give me another option to tackle Muay Thai Low Kick and prove to be effective -

"Centre gate elbow" ? Are you talking about 內門頂肘.... Bajin is surely very powerful in the application of body slam & elbow usage. But always has a hard time before get into its fighting range if fight with MT. You need to encounter the low kick of MT first. I have some friend practising Bajin and of course some is inspired by Virtual Fighter Actually I was talking about 頂心肘. I know 外門頂肘 but have never really heard of 內門頂肘 but it could be the other name for center gate elbow. Yes you are VERY right, range is ALWAYS my problem, Baji Quan is only good is close range, it does have some long range moves but they are all crapy. I myself learned a lot of Muay Thai low kicks from a friend of mine and I actually use them a lot during sparring. Tell you the truth, I too went to learn Baji Quan because of Virtua Fighter and one thing for sure is that if it's not for Virtua Fight, there will be way lesser people still know about Baji Quan today, some people will say that Baji Quan was actually made famous by Virtua fighter. Yes, the same thing 內門頂肘 is the other name for center gate elbow By the way, do you mind to tell me where you learn Baiji Quan? Just would like to know. -

Pretty interesting stuff you got got there, I personally haven't yet fought any CLF or Muay Thai fighter, I was wondering what will happen if I pit Baji Quan's "Centre gate elbow" against "Sao Choy" or a Muay Thai kick? By the way I know Muay Thai kicks are extremely powerful that is why learn most of my low kicks from Muay Thai. "Centre gate elbow" ? Are you talking about 內門頂肘.... Sorry to make you confused. I think it is better to find some photo of Sao before we continues. I want more to discuss CLF What I am talking about is the range of attack for Sao and what this may encounter if facing a MT fighter. -

If CLF try to fight with MT, MT Low kick is still the problem you should overcome first. Another point is if CLF wearing glove would be of more adverse situation than MT's -

Sao Choy哨拳 I simply just worried you may have a chance to hurt your elbow when fighting with MT. This is particular when MT people get close to you with his hand putting near temple and elbow point at you. Your Sao Choy would be out of the most powerful point and the force would rest on you elbow joint. -
No. Yiquan indeed is itself a fighting system and ignore all form & kata. Very clear system of training. But this can make you healthy. And the final aim, of course, is for use of combat. Very straight and direct way to the main theme of Chinese martial art - Fa Jing. Check out the website below. http://www.yq-zywg.com/ICYMA%20-%20Introduction.htm

jing chun?
Ali replied to Urcuyo's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Very difficult. Because I do not know if you have heard the wrong pronunication and this is difficult to know what you are talking about for different translation for "THAT" kung fu. If you can find the Chinese word for that, easy to let you know. -

So check out the stance you hold first. How to relax seems to be difficult to explain. But I would say try the easier stance first. I do Yi quan and the first stance I hold is to have finger pointing the ground. The stance do not have too much burden to shoulder and arm. Of course, some imagin may add in your mind. Ask your master better.

Kung Fu or not
Ali replied to dippedappe's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
What I meant was this: Why say Wing Chun AND Kung Fu? You cant say that because that will mean that WC isnt KF. Thats the whole point in this post. You cant say this: "here we train tai chi, wushu and kung fu", so why are people doing it anyway. Because the martial art school holder is so lazy to explain. Thinking the martial art school is a restaurant (I hate to say that they were Mcdojo even most of them are) Chinese Kung Fu, to non-Chinese, the traditional form like Hung Gar, Shaolin is something like that. Wushu, to non-Chinese, is sometime usually including long fist and some northern fist. The point is for example, a Wing Chun school just teach Wing Chun. But later some other school called their school ABC Kung Fu school and other called themselves DEF Wushu school. That Wing Chun school want to survive in the market, he added in Kung Fu and Wushu just to compete. And say we teach Wing Chun, Kung Fu and Wushu He knows the difference but he dont really care as long as some customers come. I dont need them to know this clear. Pay me the tuition fee and cut the crap, OK Just if I open a restaurant, I orginally just sold hotdog. Later, I said I sold Hotdog, bread and burger. You would say Hotdog is also a kind of bread. I dont care, eat the hotdog, OK
