  1. Yes. Older and wiser. No LOL, it is common sense on health and safety.
  2. Well, as far as a mteghod goes, one has to know or learn how to gwt away before applying any further. If you cant get away or break the hold, any followup will be useless
  3. Why not? Anybody can beat anybody anytime and anyday. No one is unbeatable. It is no doubt that a person trained in a specialized field will be better than someone even on a casual exposure.
  4. The most emvarassing for me, is that I had tried each if those
  5. Yep..however, the Lousiville slugger is shorter and requires less space....
  6. Wow, Thanks for the info Rateh
  7. Hi IcemanSK Just as having stripes maybe a indication of satus, it still has to be recoginsed by all on that org as what it re[resents. Simply, the person should stand upon their own merit, rather dosplay a satus via stripes. The striping maybe a bit flamboyant
  8. You can't blame the Koreans for trying to create a national past time. They have been de-cultured by heavy Japanese influences. Asian pride, known as "face" is still strong in the East
  9. but can a football player beat up a skilled MMA?
  10. And that is the strange thing an=bout it. It is commonly mis-used. I once had a Japanese Kendo instructor who also taught the bo. He used to freak, when we said "bo staff" Imagine someone butchering your cultural language structure...
  11. So, you completely failed the rank from a failed board break? Good point. But a martial art test is designed to observe the skill of the student based upon past performance until point of test. If the student could not do it before the test, the instructor should not have given the test. I would think the test is not a real test but a review, set upon by skill which is already known to exist, and not dogmatic knowledge.
  12. I have seen skilled bar bouncers kick the hell out of large people.
  13. Common place, or commonly mis-used, out of context, and used in slang, like all of the above?
  14. Really? What level and what art? Can you please further elaborate so that I may understand better (I never known anyone to fail a martial art test)
  15. I see your point about pros and cons. I have yet to see a high kick in street or pub combat.
  16. Can physicality overcome skill?
  17. It was. I am talking back in the 60's. High school wrestling was as popular as high school football or basketball. I have seen many high school wrestling programs vanish where I am from. Speaking of wrestling, a wrestling coach I knew had trained in Sambo for some time. I think Sambo, like Korea's martial arts, was heavily influenced by Japanese martial arts. (I could be mistaken)
  18. Like insurance, (or martial arts), we may strive to work at having it, but we muist not be lead to believe that it is the end all of not taking precautions to get better (policies or martial art skill)
  19. great. It is nice to be motivated and scheduled.
  20. Oh man, when I was in Judo long ago, high school wrestlers were my favorite opponents. Not that I can beat them always, but they put me through my paces to make sure may leverage game was on. I started to work out with as many wrestlers as I would Judoka back in those days.
  21. So, are well are saying that complacency is not where a martial artist should be, but contious focus is
  22. Yep. one of my teachers participated in it. They didnt stop the bouts too often. Soon, fighters started to train more in boxing, because the legs worn down the stamina. We started to joke around and change the name from KickBoxing to BoxKicking
  23. I am glad you used the analogy of kids who play football. The body can take so much toll and as I said, not everyone has the body which can withstand it. And, last, one does not need it to be victorious (in defense or football for success)
