  1. Good post. This is perhaps the better ideal
  2. Indeed. It is a tough situation to be in.
  3. That is part of the point I am making. With so many things to do to make a livihood, putting oneself through heavy conditioning seems outdated. Also to mention, conditoning was important for top martial arts back eras ago as many were body gurads and military. Also, think about the reprecusions. If one seriously harms someone with it, and it gets to court, I dont think the court or a jury will find in favor of someone who seemed to premediate a training method to do great bodily harm with the hands. To some people, this may seem extreme.
  4. Well, it wasnt like I was a stranger off the street. they did a "martial art background" check on me. Strange was I decided to try and do one on them, and they seem do not have anything but what they study and teach within their org. I guess they realised their poisition and I seen a student there advance real quick. So, I guess they decided to recruit from within. On another note, per the bottom of theirs web page: http://www.shaolin-do.com/history.php ""If your primary interest is tournament skills, I advise you to seek your training elsewhere! Most of what you will learn here is too lethal for tournament use. I teach the ancient system of Shaolin-Do, 'Art of survival, not of sport.' As did the immortals, we should learn to destroy so that we may preserve! It is a way of truth. The knowledge that I offer you is not an athletic training; it is a sacred trust." Shaolin Grandmaster Sin Kwang Thé HOWEVER, much contradiction oer this page: http://www.texaskungfu.com/school/events.html "Rules for tournament Event times Meteor Fist GrandMaster Sin will be teaching Meteor Fist on Sunday, August 23rd from 11-2pm. 5. Good point, but it would seem to be a more monitored setting for kids.
  6. Well, it depends on what you want out of your training, too.Well said, but I had tried both, and it maybe the instructors as well, but I think one had better combat applications than the other. Not that I am putting one down. I am stating a preference from my observations.
  7. In one point of time, the late 70's, early 80;s, they were a popular organization.
  8. It may not be deniable that Korean arts have been influenced heavily by Japanese arts and there may nit be any true Korean martial art lineage still in existence.
  9. Interesting. Knowing that youd never reach your journey and "self-satisfied", as sometomes complacency may mean, are different. To some, complacecny is not a matter of never reaching a goal, it may be a level of comfort or relaxation.
  10. I thought longer belts was a mis-size issue.
  11. Mas was Korean by birth, did he actually study any Korean martial arts?
  12. I have to agree. In a defense situation, one may be able to get the application. But in fisticuffs, the changes to apply any such is slim.
  13. Actually, K-9 is not a special breed of dog. It is a is a homophone of "canine", members of Canidae. I do agree, that if a haven is in a short distance to run for it. I would think I rather a dog bite my arm while I am trying to scurry to safety, than any other body part.
  14. I think attackers are determined on the place or area. Per environment. In other words, one may never have a drunk attacker if they live in a small town with a snmall population, let alone a mugger or rapist.
  15. Is it true that Jhoon Rhee, worked on inventing the first safty pads?
  16. Coming from him, he did it to his best ability
  17. Has anyone. old enough, to have followed the PKA bouts back in the day?
  18. I think anything where two people go hand to hand to overcome the other could, in some way, be a martial art if the methods could be used, somehow in combat.
  19. I think Aiki Jutsu had more to offer than Aikido.
  20. I look upon it like this. An automotive mechanic has to know as much as about a car in order to maintain many situations. Per brakes, cooling, performance, etc. A martial artist has the same. A car has many things to know about and learn. Martial arts the same. It would be best tp learn many things upon the same subject.
  21. It would be in the best interest to ask the instructor if one is ready and look for guidance on how to prepare.
  22. JKD may be nothing new as a style with no style would suggest that a martial artist grow and further devlop their abilities. Which was the original concept of martial arts for many millineum.
  23. Are the risk of injury and wrong atttudes no different than any other kid competitive sport?
  24. Nice response. So, I guess one should not have this in any profession Could it also mean that one will not continue to strive to better their abilities?
  25. As with anything, it can become a somewhat burden if it becomes less enjoyable. Also, we should not look upon how far we hav to go, but look upon how far we came.
