  1. Wow, that would look cool. Silver on a tsd masters belt! yes its very sharp looking. im going to try to find a picture of the master i saw it on for you, its so cool!
  2. wow, thank you for sharing that! i think that's a great rank system for yudansha put together by your soke, you are entirely right, physical rank, and a teaching titles are literally black and white! again, thanks for sharing, and congrats on your 43 years in the arts, i hope all 43 have been great to you!
  3. congrats on the weight loss, i 100% know how hard it is to do that, i've lost 18 pounds in 4wks, and i have 12 more to go, it seems like the end is no where in sight! but i have to say, keep treckin' and best of luck, congrats to you sir!
  4. yes, silver is very nice, i have seen it a few times, and it looks great on tsd master's belts but i've only seen one done that way.
  5. yes definately, i'd like to see all these ideas/thoughts/concepts put together plus your own writing skills on such an interesting topic. its truly fascinating how if fluctuates from state to state and how its almost easy to agree with all the laws on some level.
  6. for the most part, after looking at this i agree with everyone...to an extent. i think that the meaning of a black belt cannot be narrowed down to one thing or even a group of things but many and almost infinate things, and i think many of them and most of the 'hi-light' ones have been noted here. granted i agree with some of these qualities less than others but i do still agree with them. i'd like to think of it as a large pie chart...
  7. i would highly suggest you invest in rip cords and ankle weights. using them 3-4 times a week will get you the results you want. good luck!
  8. hey, welcome, im from the east coast as well...if you couldnt tell
  9. An vile invention which serves only to make individuals like myself feel incredibly unfit. Basically you have a 20m length to do shuttle runs back and forth whilst a tape bleeps at you. When it bleeps you are supposed to have reached across the other side of the room and are just turning back and the beeps get quicker and quicker as you pass more levels. I think its also called a "multi-stage fitness test". If you want to listen you can get it from here: http://www.defence.gov.au/army/hq8bde/jobs/fitness.htm There is also situp, push up etc. versions. im in pain from just asking! that sounds God awful, but i may test it out on my students sometime
  10. well, i'll continue under the assumption its belts we're speaking of here and say that i have gold on mine, and i like it. im not a fan of the red. but i have seen both silver and blue in other places and i have to say, i like how crisp and nice both colors look against the color black.
  11. either way, whatever tradition you do or do not believe in is fine and acceptable. this is what i like about this site, any other site would have a full-fledge argument over this conversation, but whatever you want to believe in about this stuff is yours and yours only, nobody here is going to try to take it away from you with cyber 'fight words'. just a random thought, but kudos to everyone on this site, from administrator(s) to whoever just signed up today.
  12. uhm...if you don't mind me asking...a bleep test???
  13. My grammar was horrible so I fixed it. By the way this afternoon I attempted another cap block with a reverse punch and got a clean break and I'm pleased that I met this goal. congrats! that demo sounds like its going to be great to watch, best of luck!
  14. yes, it very much matters what is being embroidered here...belts, i'd assume?
  15. yes, i agree. blocks will mostly take care of themselves, but mostly if you do feel the need for improvement on blocking techniques, create combinations/pre-sets/one(two, three)-steps to help, its alittle more applicable and easy to see, rather than a whole kata.
  16. i'd say 10-15 minutes is appropriate for stretching, i'd say around 10 because the beginning of class(for us atleast) can usually be considered dynamic stretching just because of the basic part of it and its semi-slow to medium speed.
  17. i absolutely think that students and parents would see the black belt as being more qualified. just because that parents see rank, and power, and leadership, and responisibility and sometimes as ability. while we(marital artists) know that is not the case, parents who are not artists believe that. and i think students may think somewhat similarly but see rank as more power and leadership and may see through the ability and responsibility. its unfortunate but my answer is yes, i do think they'd naturally see the black belt as 'better' or whatever.
  18. i'd still be interested in the answer if anyone knows how to find it...
  19. well that's the answer for tae kwon do but unfortunately not all korean martial arts are tae kwon do
  20. current job: martial arts instructor and im working on being a cop, and a martial arts instructor on the side as well.
  21. Well My gut keeps telling me The Iron Man but the wallet doesn't like the $130 price tag. yea its just a matter of googling century karate uniforms and you'll find other outside companies that sell them, open a word document, type down their prices and where they came from and compare.
  22. why did you HAVE to do it, was it a testing requirement? if so, that sucks, im sorry man.
  23. well heres the questions you need to answer for yourself... weight size brand price range seems like you are set on heavyweight cuz thats what you like, so now you can go out and peruse brands and the materials you like and the sizes you see fit you the best. i definately wouldnt recommend century though so, go with your gut...and your wallet
  24. i wear a heavyweight 'masters' uniform from century. its white with black trim around the lapel and arms, and the bottom. and it truly takes a very long time to break in, like a solid year of wear and tear, its very hard to move it at first, its very hard to keep in place, and the sizing is alittle weird. but as for the positive, i like it as a dress uniform, not for my class and practice uniform. if i was judging, or observing, or teaching in a situation where i wouldnt move alot i'd absolutely wear it. i have a karate depot black middle weight that i like, its perfect its just heavy enough and tough enough, it still irons well, but its not overwhelming like my century one. i've never been a big fan of century because of their screwy sizing and odd shaped uniforms, but i've never wanted to splurge on an expensive gi like you have decided to. but i have heard good things about shureido and tokaido, but i would consider trying on some middleweights, im particularly fond of them.
