BJJ and Multiple Opponents
kenpo4life replied to ValeTudo's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Venezolano, I know that you are not really close to the US but listen. -
Sasori, You talk about exposing your ribs? Well for a moment, anything you do will open you up to a counter. that is why you must attack with conviction

BJJ and Multiple Opponents
kenpo4life replied to ValeTudo's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
You guys make me laugh. Grappling is the last thing that a person wants in a multiple attacker situation. At least that is what Rigan Machado told me once. Royce told me the same thing. They said it is better to move and throw people on their head than it is to get the perfect sub move -
WHat do feel is a Good Contract ?
kenpo4life replied to Shihan's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I think that quarterly contracts is not such a bad idea. It makes keeping the books easier. -
Ummm, gear? I dont know, in my family, we have never used them.

Do you mean in terms of stuff like brotherhood? Or maybe cheaper costs for competitions?

Buster Douglass was knocked down and should have been counted out before he came back and won. Mike was having personal probs, Douglas had just lost his mom, and his girlfriend was in serious trouble. talk about motivation. Biting is not a big deal in boxing, it happens all of the time. Evander admitted to doing it before. It is a common dirty trick in boxing. Kinda like using the stubble on your face to loosen a guys skin. You dont know much about boxing do ya. fact is, when he was focused, Mike was a top 5 of all tiem hw

Anyone doubting gokors skills is tripping hard. Ask yourself why both shamrocks, and a bunch of other big names went to train there. Ask Steve about how good Gokor is. I will find you his school address, and you can ask him. Word is that handled the Shams easily. I have seen his students manhandle some big names in the bizz. When he and Rigan rolled, I heard that it was crazy. Rigan has said on more than one occasion that Gokor can definetly tap a lot of bjj black belts. I will give more info later.

I learned primarily from my pops. I say, keep it generic, and let the good times roll.

The Gracies

Actually, leverage has been proven to work thousands of years ago. Like an ancient Greek was once quoted" Give me a lever and I can lift the world" -

I dont mean disrespect, but this is getting foolish. Helio Gracie, acording to members of his family and their followers claim that he refined everything. Have you ever seen Kosen judo? Without the striking component, it is just like bjj. Check out judo in action, grappling techniques and see all of " bjj's" omoplatas, triangles, guard sweeps and the like. There is no way that Helio could have made all of those refinements himself, since he was busy teaching every day all day. Read the Gracie way and get a feel for his schedule. I think that Carlson, Rolls and the Brazilian Top Team are responsible for a great deal of the bjj that we now see. Tibby, Bjj isnt a whole different art, it is a whole different type of marketing. Like SEVERAL NON-BRAZILIANS have told me, including Gene Simco ( Aranha for those who have heard of him at jiujitsu.net ) bjj is old school judo with strikes included. His brown belt under Reylson tends to make me agree with his assesment. Also, I trained with Royce WAY back in the day for a little. The original claim was" 95% of fights end up in a CLINCH. A bjj man could then do a takedown and sub the guy. Plus, fighting in Brasil has developed differently than in the US. So maybe in brazilian fights that is true, but certainly not here.

you guys crack me up. Did you know in Brasil they just call it jiujitsu? Rorian called it GJJ because he was a Gracie, and wanted to make a clear difference between what they did in Brasil, and the jj that Americans were more accustomed to seeing. As far as the Machados and all of that, they are cousins to the Gracies. They have the same teachers. They just have different focus from school to school. Ralph guys tend to be very aggresive, Cesar tends to focus a lot on sweeps like the Machados. Some schools are competition minded and so forth. Let it rest guys. jj is jj. The only difference is the focus

Combative or not combative?
kenpo4life replied to Icetuete's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
A mcdojo is a school where basically you pay for your belts and there are no realistic drills or sparring. Mcdojo schools are characterized by titles like grandmaster, undefeated champion and stuff like that. Mcdojos also usually require long contracts and can promise you a black belt within X amount of time. Basically, they are the things that are killing the public impression of martial arts. -
preparing shins
kenpo4life replied to thai_boxer_no.1's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
The safest, least macho way is just practice hitting a thai bag with your shins. Increase force as you get used to it. IT worked for me. And in terms of experience, I have had 18 MT fights. -
First off, the facts: catch wrestling is not like the WWE. It is the old style of submission wrestling popularized in the 1900's. These guys were real pro wrestlers, who knew how to really hurt you. They were called shooters. They used a lot of the moves, pins and leg locks that you see in pancrase. It is NOT fake. Judo Gene Lebell is a catch wrestler and a dangerous one. Look up Tony Cecchine. He is a good one. catch has a lot of moves that are painful like you wouldnt believe. It is probably the most complete of the ground systems. I can say that because I have 10 years of bjj, sombo and judo under my belt. Catch, when taught by the real deal guys are no joke

If he believes that a backfist is useless, he does not deserve that rank. Every tool has a job, just know when to use it
