  1. Let me look into the old archives, I know I have some somewhere. Email me at ichibushi@hotmail.com
  2. I think that a person she be at least a brown or so before they delve into other arts, unless they are totally different. I would not necessarily do TKD and shotokan that the same time, but boxing and wrestling yes. I say that because sometimes, the closer to things are, the more confusing they can be. Example, I speak Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. I have a hard time not mixing them up sometime. But no problem with any of those languages and Japanese, which I also speak. I think that if you start at 2 ranges of a spectrum and work inward, it is easier to remember. Ask any boxer who has competed in kickboxing how hard it is to adjust to a boxer stance, and vice-versa.
  3. I think that both have their place. The benefits of positive reinforcement are well known. But also fear of punishment, whether severe or not can motivate someone a lot as well. Remember how we learned not to eat unripe fruit? We ate one and went holy crap that is NASTY!!! That worked better than" okay honey, dont eat those until they are ripe okay?"
  4. I think that it is much better for a striker turned grappler than vice versa. Strikers dont have to change so many elements of their game. BJJ guys for example dont move as fluidly as a striker. Look at the dominance of the chuteboxe team. They defend the shoot and ko their guys. I do the same in my training. A good strike can end a fight right away. Look at Mo Smith versus Kazunari. No grappling, just footwork and POW!! Night Night
  5. Sit back on your heels. Press your elbows into his inner thigh and laugh when his legs pop open.
  6. JJF, I learned more of the takedowns that you are talking about from sombo not bjj. I find sombo to be more balanced
  7. Some judo schools do incorporate groundwork. Not many though. I think that olympic judo was the worst thing ever to happen to the art. Kano even stated that judo was not what he created. Old judo is nuts. They had a lot of emphasis on both standing and ground
  8. Problem with the hook is, it wont work in everyday clothes. Plus it exposes the groin and makes a takedown easier. What I do is what Andy Hug ( RIP) used to do. I used it to hit the inner thigh.
  9. I have not competed in the Intls in a long time. Bu gosh it was fun:)
  10. Good job, keep up the good work!
  11. Rolling pins do work, if you build up to them. I say kick the bag, and take care of your shins in between workouts.
  12. As a old school kenpo guy, I would say that that is typical of kenpo. Forget what some of the imposters, or " heirs apparent" to the kenpo throne may say, kenpo was not even really a formalized style until not that long ago. It was a concept" Hit hard, hit often, and hit from all angles. there is a lot of talk amongst the kenpo guys in Hawaii and other places, that Ed Parker left Hawaii an brown belt and landed a black if you know what I mean.
  13. I was just curious where you guys are in the world. I am in Oakland, Ca.
  14. JJ fighter That feud is over my friend. I have been told by 3 seperage Gracies that it is pretty much a competiton thing, but not like b4
  15. I also am currently looking to open a small school soon. Could you please email me at ichibushi@hotmail.com? I would appreciate it.
  16. The thing about Villaris studios is that they can be franchised without any creative control from villari. So some people are good, some are bad, but it is based on the individual teacher, since there there isnt one person controlling everything.
  17. thanks guys, much appreciated. Pleeze keep the advice coming:)
  18. jiu-jitsu fighter, First of all, in response to your stuff, I DO respect the Gracies. My second teacher was a Gracie. I have learned from Royce, Royler, Vitor, Rodrigo Medeiros,Fabio Santos and more. I am saying that there marketing is suspect at BEST. In GIA I, there is a commentary that a man challenged Rickson on the beach. That man was Hugo Duarte. The story I heard from Marco Ruas was different. He told me that there were about 3 times as many bjj guys as Luta Livre guys. Hugo had mounted Rickson and was thrown off. Second in regards to bjj being a totally different art than judo, think again. The style of judo popular now is NOT the judo that Kano created, He even said so before he died. Check out kosen judo on the net. It will tell you all about that. Look into the old judo texts, like "Best judo" or judo in action" grappling techniques. The omo-plata, triangle, the guard sweeps. open and closed are all in judo moves. Like gene "Aranha" Simco told me once, bjj is nothing but old-school judo with a vale-tudo component. That is from the horses mouth. I can help you with some info if you want to research it yourself.
  19. It is a good kick, but limited in practical application. Plus it exposes your groin too much for my taste. Anyhow, later folks.
  20. Venelozano, In Pride, you can kick and elbow a downed fighter. Plus with a ring, you cannot hold someone into a corner, a specialty of Titos
  21. Help me out please folks. I am looking to open a school in the next several months. Help me out about what fees, licences and other things may be out there that I am forgetting. Please post here or email it to me at chuanfa_sifu@yahoo.com. Thanks guys in advance. That is chuanfa, then an underscore, then sifu. It doesnt show up since email addresses are underlined.
  22. That is right Kirves, forgot about that.
  23. If you guys dont think that point fighters can fight, you are making a huge generalization. Go on down to a BKF school or to the Pachecos. Keep in mind that you must change your tactics in point fights, but that doesnt mean that you cant fight.
  24. Okay, Let me start with the easy stuff. First of all, Chuck did not KO Vitor. He won by decison from a fight that Vitor only trained a month for. Plus the ring rust factor must be considered. Not dissing Chuck, I think that he is highly over-rated. Tito DID lose to Frank. But at the time, Tito had only 4 pro fights against all of Frank's experience and ability. Ken is WAY past his prime. NOt just because of his age, but because of all of the wars he has been in. Tito is a good fighter no doubt. But he cuts easily 12-15 pounds per fight. I dont think that is fair. In Pride, under Pride rules, I dont think tito can beat Silva. Tito is good at using the fence, in Pride it wont work.
  25. Kick and Withers, I will be looking to open my own school. I would like to ask you a few questions if I may. Please email me at ichibushi@hotmail.com if you have time. Thank you in advance
