why start with instructing kids?
kenpo4life replied to gimgamgommetje's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I have to add my 2 cents. Teaching children is slower and more systematic But while most of the money is in kids, I believe that a lot of unscrupulous folks take advantage of that. I can think of a lot of schools, bjj schools in particular that make BIG cash without kids. -
Folks are WAY to concerned with rank. I have 26 years in the biz and I am second dan. Dont care about rank. Care about skills.

O soto gari and barai ashi work for me -
A mixture of both ignorance and mcdojoism. most people ask you if you can kick somones *. Then the others talk about how little johhny has a black belt in TKD. Too bad that he is only 10. The masters of the variou styles are rollin g in their graves I am sure.

Cups are your friend!! I think tha they are mandatory. -
That is mostly ego I am thinking. If I were the teacher, I would withhold his bb for a LONG time. That is uncalled for. I would take that student, and show him without breaking a sweat why I was teacher. Talking to people in this situation doesnt work. This person KNOWS better, but chooses not to DO better. One of the saddest truths is that the only way to stop violence is with greater violence. I would smoke this kid, and then send him back to the workout. He would get loud and clear that he should calm down.

Hisa heart started racing and he thought that he was having a heart attack. Even Don Frye who doesnt like Ken said that his heart was at like 200 beats a minute. -
This cat has said a couple of foolish things. The guard is NOT predicated on long legs. Ask Cleber, or Cesar or Ralph Gracies. Rickson is only about 5'9. F. Shamrock is not tall either. As far as Olympic wrestle conditioning, well anyone in any sporting endeavor could benefit from that kind of conditioning.

Well, I never consider point fighting fighting. I personally would hop in with my supporting leg and back fist him in the face, or rake his eyes.

Like I said, read that book. It includes all ofthe info that the others gave. But it also has the best colors, days and fonts to use for optimal results. Dont waste marketing cash. Make it measured and concise. Read the book

Putting your butt in the air will get you swept like a dirty floor. I am too lazy to explain it. Read Renzo and Roylers book. As far as the triangle here is the readers digest version. For the leg that going over your shoulder, grab that pant leg and pull it toward the floor. Then look up at the sky using good posture and you should be able to break free.

When do you jump?

I think that in limited situations they can work. But not worth the rish usually IMO. -
Rear naked is easy. As soon as you feel his arm snaking your neck, tuck your chin. Then Use your hands to pull down on his arm. Your hand position should be like doing a pull up. Turn INTO his body so that you do not expose your neck.IF he is using his right arm to choke, turn toward your right armpit, (and his)

It is not only about belts. I am a nidan, but I have 26 years under my belt. I have been fighting other peoples black belts since I was a kid and winning. I think that 90% of schools hand out rank way too fast. We all know that it is mostly marketing and money, but how proud should you be of getting a black belt if kids can get them?

Ignorance amazes me...

You have got to be kidding me. IF he hit so hard, then why has he not made million with his skills? I am not stupid. I am a very competent MA, bjj, juo, somo, kenpo( bareknuckle) and so on. But it is obvious with that statement that you dont have any idea how much better world class athletes are than the rest. I have done MA 26 years, crosstrained the whol nine. Mike would kill us, and likely any one we train with. I have rolled with Royce, Ralph, Vitor, Rickson , Royler, Saulo, and a whole bunch of other greats. NONE of them has been hit as hard as MIke can hit you. Vitor is a good puncher, but he didnt even make the Brazilian boxing finals. He did not win Olympic stuff. Mike is 10 x beyond him in skill. -
I am a Shotokan Shodan, but im starting kyokushin kai....
kenpo4life replied to j0rge's topic in Karate
Actually there are a number of differences. While Oyama did study goju and shotokan, he modified his system quite a bit. In kyokushin, their delivery of the roundhouse kick is different. they also have no pads and full contact sparring from the start. They clinch and knee a lot also. There training methods are very intense. As I have fought in about 75 sabaki/kyokushin style matches, I can give you more details. Feel free to email me at ichibushi@hotmail.com -
Ive never used them.

How about 99.5% of ANY fighter ANY style against Mike. He is a world class athlete that can hit and take a harder punch than any one of us, or any one we know. You guys have NO idea how much better a pro is than us. I have sparred to world champions that were WAY lighter than I am, Terry Norris and Michael Carbajal. They we so fast it was scary to think about. I have 6 and 8 inches on them, and I couldnt even get close. And i have been fighting about 25 years kyokushin. Granted we werent kicking but still. In MMA it takes a lot of leg kicks to wear someone down. Mike only needs to take one, and then come the fluries of punches. LIGHT OUT! -
Dont wear them when I spar
