For those who did not open a second location, I am curious as to where you found/how you found your first 10.

Super sweet Face Book Blunder
kenpo4life replied to kenpo4life's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Thank you, will do. -
I accidentally made a standard page for my biz instead of a business one. Is there anyway to transfer it over? Or do I have to delete and start again? Not a big deal, just asking

Is anyone familiar with his services? I know that he is very successful with what he does, but does anyone have personal experience? I am considering the investment.

Regarding Face Book as a business medium.

Thank you guys again, and especially you tall-geese. I have checked out your page and it is awesome. I know nothing about FB ads or anything, but I appreciate how clean and organized your page is. -
Thank you guys for your input. Ninja nurse. I am starting with your idea TODAY!

Regarding Face Book as a business medium.
kenpo4life posted a topic in Instructors and School Owners
Hello all, I was wondering two things about using Face Book for business: What types of things do you put up there? Is it strictly an offer or discount for services? Pictures? Short video clips?OR is there a certain option that allows you to get the page out there so that others can see it? -
Thanks guys. I don't expect to do huge things right away, but I know that setting high goals is important. If you dreams don't scare you a little, you might not be aiming high enough I will review those threads, and I thank you both for your input. I was starting to feel like I made that impassioned/embarrassing plea for naught.

And re-read the Art of War

Unless you have cimmitted a clear error, it may not be your fault. You can't please everyone. As folks say in the South," Even Jesus got crucified" Do your best, learn to run a business the best you can, and let the chips fall knowing that you gave your all.

Instructor losing their cool in sparring
kenpo4life replied to Slugger's topic in Instructors and School Owners
She should have been skilled enough to block. Never hit a black belt? HA! Sounds like her little ego was hurt more than her nose. You have tried to do the right thing, now leave. Go somewhere where contact in a contact activity is okay -

That is not entirely true. Dont drink the Kool-Aid my friend. There are dozens of styles of jiu-jitsu. All you have to do is study some of the old texts, the techniques are almost identical. BJJ is mostly about transitions, but even that is nothing new. Look into Kalaripayattu and some older Eastern systems. There is nothing new under the sun. The Gracies marketed their interpretation of the system. But we all know by now that they were not the only students of Conde Coma. -

I dont really agree with that one. I have seen some OLD judo and catch wrestling stuff, and I have yet to see an original technique in BJJ. I saw an omoplata in India from the 1800's I think it was Phil Miglierese that put it in Grappling Magazine back in the day. -

I mean that the marketing of the Gracie family early on was ludicrous. They had everyone believing that 90% of all fights go the ground. When the demand for GJJ grew too large to fill, Sport Jujitsu guys flocked here and taught the sport of jujitsu. They teach/taught a lot of techniques that look cool but will get your hurt in the street. While the Gracies were raking it in hand over fist, and at the same time, acting like they were the only qualified game in town, Sperry was doing a lot. He wrote articles about how to alter BJJ to street situations, He talked about clinching up Greco0Roman/Thai styles instead of trying to shoot double and single leg takedowns. He also put out a VERY good serious of DVD, including the moves that the Gracie family wouldnt teach non-Brazilians. On top of all that he has helped develop some of the best athletes from Brasil. The Top Team. -
A guy named Ridge from the BKF used to knock out people all of time it. And that is when they had on headgear.

Chuck's success has been easy to figure out. He has been feasting on wrestlers turned MMA guys who have ZERO striking skill. Most people have never really been hit before and cannot take a punch. Chuck is hard to take dwon and keep down, so he has the advantage over a bunch of non strikers. I told someone years ago that a good lefty or a decent kicker will beat Chuck handily. Jardine isnt even a good kicker and he beat Chuck. Anyone with a strikers chin will do well against Chuck. Wand Silva, 25 pounds lighter than Chuck, took his best shots on the chin and forced him to resort to a take down. That is something that we havent seen Chuck do in ages. I cannot even believe that at one point Chuck was talking about fighting Mirko. It would have been a homicide.

Usefulness of the High Block
kenpo4life replied to joesteph's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Let me help you guys out. If you want to see upward blocks in a practical manner, watch the Floyd Mayweather and Ricky Hatton fight. Floyd used a motified upward block and then a quick vertical punch about 50 times -
Fact is that an a self defense modality, Judo is far more complete. In a real fight, if you grab and throw some knuckle-head, he is likely to stick his arm out and dislocate it or something. Fight over. Judo has MORE than enough groundwork for 90% of the population. They dont NEED to specialize in groundwork. Also, there are a LOT of different schools of judo. A lot of them are heavy on groundwork, especially the Eastern European schools. BJJ is good for what it is about, but Judo covers the entires spectrum of grappling. If you put a judo black belt in a bjj class for a year, he will be up to snuff with groundwork in no time. If you put a bjj guy in a judo class for a year, he will still get thrown on his head by a judo BB. Plus gripping techniques in judo will give a bjj fits if he has clothes on. Look at Royce and Yoshida. Yoshida was passed his prime and never that good in groundwork. He handled Royce in the first fight. He didnt even train in the second and still didnt get finished.

Mario is an AMAZING grappler. He was one of the first to speak out against the propoganda machine of the Gracies. He also spoke about BJJ for self defense as opposed to spork. -
No pads, no gloves and daido juku rules apply. Basically the only thing we dont do is strikes the knees and the spine. No spiking on the head during takedowns. All other strikes, including the groin are fair game. All clinches and submissions are allowed

a TMA is an art that has a philosophical component built in. It is NOT about the age of the art at all. Muay Thai is hundreds of years old, as is jujitsu, MMA to me is just the combination of arts used for SPORT combat.
