  1. G95, What style do you practice? I am kinda curious how many other people out there go full contact like I do.
  2. Full contact does not mean full force. In my family we go sabaki style. Only we palm to the face only. We go 80% full power to the body, about 65 percent to the body with kicks. We throw knees leg kicks the whole 9 yards. It is all about realistic training.
  3. A dojo that sticks to the traditional values while still maintaing a high degree of practical and intense training.
  4. It is not the style that matters most. It is the practical training of the practicioner. Aikido is often touted as a nonviolent art. But there are varieties that are very offensive in nature, like the kind that they teach the kidotai (japanese riot police)
  5. I would absolutely love to!!! I have extensive experience in martial arts, and I am a published writer as well. Please contact me at chuanfa_sifu@yahoo.com. I think that I have a lot to contribute. I have had zillions of thinktanks with folks. Let me in please!!!!!
  6. Guys, It is a BAD idea to back straight up. One should sidestep or use lateral motion. Moving back puts you in range more. Ask any boxer or kenpo guy, or any striker who predominately uses hands. Lateral motion is what seperates most strikers from the really good strikers.
  7. There should be no rigid stance. you fight from wherever you are at the time.
  8. Bon, I have done a little escrima, but not enough to claim it in my opinion. Thanks for the welcome guys. Three 6-o, it is sad that a lot of people dont train the old school way. That is why there are so few martial arts schools, and so many black belt factories.
  9. I like the rear naked. Everyone knows how to defend it, so getting it is harder. Since I dont do gi bjj, I prefer to use the stuff that will work regardless of clothing.
  10. Hey guys, I just wanted to into myself. I have posted on a few things, but I just wanted to get my name out a little. I am a nidan in the oldschool brand of kenpo. Old school meaning no pads, leg kicks, etc. I have done judo, for 9 years, brown belt. I have been doing no-gi bjj and sombo for 10 years now. I teach in the Bay Area and get kicks out of the fact that I do what l love for a living. Any questions? Ask away
  11. Go to royharris.com he breaks it down better than most.
  12. Three60, It is widely accepted the rolls was in fact THE best of the Gracies. There is a saying in the gracie family, that there was jj before Rolls and then bjj after. Rolls was the bridge between the old plodding bjj and the newer dynamic stuff. If you dont believe me ask Ralph, or royler, or renzo, because I have. Rolls x-trained in wrestling and sambo both. he is the reason that bjj is so refined. He tapped Rickson a lot, and was reportedly the last to easily due so. chh. All jj is jj. The gracies have refined some of the methods of the old school judo, before it got Olympic and commercial. If you think that the gracies have invented anything new, check out the old judo text. Omo-patas, the guard, it is all in there. Try "Grappling in action" by a game named kuzo. Or best judo, it all has what most would call bjj. Kosen judo is really what it is in my opinion. or, as a bjj bb told me once" It is old school judo with a vale tudo component." Hope that helps.......
  13. Kensai, That is pretty funny. My friend actually made mcdojo.com I think people hate on aikido, because they lump it all as one style. it has many different varieties, like jj, or karate even. If you want to see something nuts, find some footage of the yoshinkan. That is where they train the kidotai, the japanese riot police. They bang on each other big time. Aikido is like anything else, practice for real and it works for real.
  14. Yup, did it for a year with a friend from Khazakstan. I like it more than most people I think. it has improved my arm and leg subs like crazy. In their tourneys, choking is not allowed. Imagine how much more open your grappling would be if you didnt have to protect your neck. The stuff we see in the US is often mcdojo sombo. The real art has great throws, crazy grips for throws, excellent takedowns and of course leg and arm combos out the yin yang
  15. I cant believe nobody put Bustamonte as one of all time best. Crazy subs, good chin, seasoned, good cardio, he is top in my book.
  16. Lead hand eyegouge, tigers mouth to the throat, and a knee to the midsection. I have never had to fight longer than that.
