Nino Schembri was the first person I saw use the gogoplata. Not Bravo -
My school is only 6 months. If people enjoy the training, why are such long contracts needed?

First of all, Kano was NOT happy with how judo turned out. He felt that the focus of true judo was lost. Kosen, focused more on groundwork. After the throw, groundwork was used until a submission was reached. If you look at the older judo books, you will find a lot of what is called bjj now. Omoplatas, bicep slicers, leglocks, hip cranks, you name it.

Mike Tyson learn Muay Thai
kenpo4life replied to Ali's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Seven star speaks the truth. I have sparred competitive boxers and world champs. Michael Carbajal and Terry Norris in San Diego. I can tell you that the skill of a pro is relative when watching them agains other pros. Against an amatuer, their skill is readily apparent. It like in hoops. They dont look so tall among each other. But they are giants to most folks. -
At least 3 times a week. It is a real difference if you have never done it.

Drills, Games, Exercises for Class

I like the sumo game. Tuck a belt into the back of the kids belts. tell them to either push their opponent out of the cirlce, or grab the belt that is tucked in behond their opponent. Kids dont know that they are learning lateral movement. -
guard position
kenpo4life replied to Vito's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
FYI, the guard is NOT a good place to be. It is a last resort thing. Or at least it should be. There are very few who are adept enough to not take a real pounding. Strikes make a HUGE difference. Do you remember when new purple belt at the time Frank MIr, broke the arm of Perreniel world champion Roberto Traven in the UFC -

best book for grappling
kenpo4life replied to dear john's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Anything by Roy harris or Michael Jen. They are professors. They break down details so much it is scary. Same with Erik Paulson -
Vito, no disrespect, but that is NOT true. Try judo in action for example. You will see how nothing in the grappling world is new. You will see omoplatas and all of that in the old judo books. The guard and all of that were used in India centuries ago. Ask anyone who has been in the game a long time.

BJJ and Sambo
kenpo4life replied to delta1's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I have 11 years in both systems and I have found that the main difference is just philosophy or focus. I find real sombo to be more rounded, while bjj has more of a paticular focus. -
To Study One Art or Multiple Arts?
kenpo4life replied to RJRKihap's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think that it is a good idea provided that the arts use different skill sets. Boxing and judo for example. If the skill sets are too similar, you might get contradictory lesson on what is "best." boxers punch and move differently than wing chun guys. But boxing and judo will not have enough common ground to confuse the two.
