Tae Kwon-Do a martial art or a sport ?
kchenault replied to Adonnis's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
We have told you our reasonings. You have chosen not to accept them. There are capable fighters on both sides for their sport. TKD was originally a military MA that deteriorated into a sport. In Korea they still practice the original concepts and training. And yes I do train with eye gouging and the like because that is how I train. Do I train full contact? No, I am not allowed. Could I? Sure. I do not participate in sport TKD for the reasons that have been laid out here. Can I handle myself in a fight? Yes. As far as bashing TKD, you are, however inadvertantly. We believe what we believe. You do as well. Nothing will change our minds. I believe we TKD's are more opened minded than most though. We readily admit our arts short comings, but from what I have seen from most MT's you don't. The point of my question was valid. Is MT a self-defense art or sport art? You never answered my question, only asked me a question in return. I have answered your initial question many times. TKD is both an art and a sport. -
Tae Kwon-Do a martial art or a sport ?

TJS* He said it is NOT the most effective or effecient. I will agree, that TKD is not that effective as a combat sport, but TKD practitioners generally don't train for that kind of sport fighting. MT is sport, K1 is sport. If there are rules, it is sport and not true combat. True combat is I will do whatever it takes to survive. It reallly is, IMO, comparing sports. MT fighters wouldn't do well, IMO, in a TKD tournament. I'll ask this, can MT fighters gouge eyes in a fight? How about punch to the groin or throat? If not, it is not true combat, but sport. TKD is a martial art and sport, just like several other arts out there. Some are more effective than others at different ranges. What does MT teach about how to disarm someone with a knife or gun? Is there practical self-defense taught in MT? If not, because I really don't know, then MT is purely sport and not martial art, like most people consider boxing. This is just my opinion, though. -

Where's my horse whip?! Will the beating of a poor dead animal never cease? I say both. I am not in it for sport, but sport can be fun. MT, fo example, is a sport very similar to boxing, in the fact that it is trained to fight under rules, but is it any less effective? I think not. I've seen some of those fights and they are brutal. Knees flying......cracked ribs.....everywhere. Nasty stuff primarily for sport not self-defense, but effective enough none the less, IMHO. -
Yeah, I'd have to go with KickChick, too. She made me feel the most welcome when I signed on. Very informative lady.

Welcome. It's nice to have you here.

Welcome Josh. Nice to meet you.

When you say young adult are you meaning teenagers? They are not adults, they are teenagers. A young adult, IMHO, is someone in their 20's or 30's, not their teen years. Just wanted to throw that out. No disrespect was intended.

If you don't sweat profusely, from what you have said in other posts, might you have a water retention problem? How about a thyroid problem? I am not being mean or anything, just trying to help you be a healthier you. I wish you all the best.

Forgetting the "Martial" in "Martial Artist&a
kchenault replied to Sharp Phil's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well said. -
Gee Patrick, if you were offended by this you should have taken it off, or at least let a person know you didn't care for it. This is not meant as a slight against mentally handicapped people, whom I know quite a few of, but more to see if people are gullible enough to say these words and understand the meaning. In essense, a word play. Here, try this one. M R Snakes. M R Not R 2, C D B D Eyes O, M R Snakes.

Amen! I know that kind of pain. -
But ZeRo, you didn't specify the two uses. Medicinal, yes. Recreational, no. That simple. Everybody else goes to rehab or jail.
-
Very interesting Deb. I did not know all those things. Now, I say let them grow it for those purposes and none else. Make the law state you go to prison for recreational use of Marijuana. Medicinal, I have no problem with either. It is an enforcement issue there. But it will not pass in this country because of the industries it threatens. Too bad for all those great things that can be made from Hemp.

Please explain further KickChick. I don't see how it is less hazardous. I would probably get rid of tobacco and alcohol as well. I see no benefits for society as a whole. But that is just me. Thank God for the right to vote, eh folks?

Interesting, another Cop story..
kchenault replied to SoulAssassin's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
If that were the case, you would have got more than a talking to. You do not have to let a person know about your training, but you can only use enough force to end the conflict. Anymore and you become the criminal. -
I voted no because Marijuana contains the drug THC, which if I am not mistaken, stores in the fat cells of a persons body and can cause flashback. Now if that were to happen while someone were driving, they could kill somebody. The bad outways the good in my opinion. Thank you for listening.
