  1. Chevy Chase - Caddyshack Absolutely the final word in golf instruction.
  2. More amounts 3-4 days a week is exactly what I mean. But you should stick with the three sets idea. You don't need anything more because you are 14 and don't want to push it too hard. Good luck.
  3. TDA, if it is inflamed it could be tendonitus/bursitis which is typically an "overuse" issue. That could explain why you feel it doing high reps. I have been "rehabing" from this condition for 6 weeks now. Of course, when I was your age I used to bench press like a fool, maxing out almost every time. Take it easy.
  4. I say you are fine, but you may want to do all your strength training 3 days a week to allow for recovery. You could do 3 sets of every exercise. You may also want to add in some cardiovascular training in there as well. Just my .02.
  5. Your side of the street is clean because you have made amends with this person. Perhaps she is not ready to accept this but she will in time as she sees how you continue to act and treat people with dignity. Eventually, she will come around and recognize your apology as sincere. If she doesn't then she is the one who harbors the resentment and negativity. Try to remember that you have done all that you can do. The acceptance is up to her. If all else fails and you can't get her out of your head then maybe you should start charging her rent!
  6. I get into the dojo 3-4 times a week and spend another 3 days on running, calestenics and stretching.
  7. I believe that physical fitness plays a role in learning the arts. The greater your overall level of fitness the easier time you will have learning, especially in the beginning. When newcomers start they are often challenged with getting into shape, at least a minumum shape that allows them to participate in the rigors of the average workout. Those that come in fit and flexible with decent strength spend less time on the physical requirements and more time learning technique and building skill. Now, many people join the arts to get into shape, but the person who is already in shape will have an easier time of it, everything else being equal. With respect to advanced ranks, physical fitness should be in place. Unfortunately, some lose it. Those that maintain and build on it have less chance of injury and spend more class time on skill building than huffing and puffing. I am a believer in being in shape and train outside of the dojo by running a minumum of 3 times a week along with doing calestenics and stretching.
  8. Caution: Golf Joke! Oh well, coming from Kicks, it's par for the course.
  9. I like leopard for the following reasons: Fits my body type uses angles quick multiple strikes and kicks can hit in motion soft targets (ribs, neck, joints, etc) builds agility and speed
  10. The only time that you want to hear crunching noises is when you eat cereal. You may have strained your shoulder. Possible ailments include tendonitis, bursitis, and rotator cuff tears. You need to give it a few days and take advil, apply ice and rest it. After two days stop the ice and apply heat to the area to promote circulation and healing. If you don't get anywhere, go see a doctor. I am not a doctor and I don't play one on the internet, but I have a simular injury in my left shoulder that I am currently being treated for. Good luck.
  11. Here's a link for you. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=171244&highlight=gu#171244 It does have a real effect but I only recommend it for endurance training or strenuous training activities lasting 90 minutes or more.
  12. Coming up with a fantasy style would be a "novel" approach. It gets my vote.
  13. Why do towels dry the more they get wet?
  14. How about answering the guy's question. In many martial arts schools you are evaluated for rank (degree). You may then be recommended for a test by the instructor. You get recommended by demonstrating your knowledge and proficiency of the required material for that particular belt in class. When you actually test you are more formally evaluated on your material under a variety of conditions. If you pass you are promoted to the next level. Most schools have a test fee ranging from reasonable to ridiculous, hence 47MM's comment about financial gain. Once you join a school or find a place to train you will quickly see how this all works. Like Shorinryu Sensei recommends visit a few places to watch how classes are conducted and don't be afraid to ask questions. Good luck.
  15. Paranoia the Destroyer...The Kinks said it best. Its all new to you and you are excited about martial arts. You will learn to relax and be aware. It will come.
  16. Way to go Kicks. I have enjoyed your participation and contributions to the community. Did KF spring for a new belt or is it the one that Delta1 was wearing for a month?
  17. "Now I know why tigers eat their young." CaddyShack
  18. Did you sneak up on any sales? You never know where the next fashion trend will come from.
  19. I've also done the half (getting ready for another next month) and love to run to complement my MA training. I have only injured myself once and I'm not so sure if it was from running or hyperextending a kick to the air. Anyway, I couldn't run or do MA for a good two weeks. I have never seen someone skip for any distance but I suspect it would be fine if you were not self conscious over the looks you may get.
  20. My neighbor broke his arm raking leaves. Of course, he claims he fell out of the tree but I suspect foul play on the tree's part. Well, the tree in question turned out to be all "bark."
  21. Yeah, they're not the same as the ones in the Steve Miller Band's song "The Joker". However some people call me Maurice.
  22. Welcome!
  23. September will go down as an active month for Karate Forums and Hurricanes! Congratulations Patrick as KF gets my vote.
