Red J replied to Oa2k's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Take it and try. If its through the university it is usually a bargain. -
Welcome Rick. I've been here for a while. Glad to have you.

Interesting. I don't know the man personally, but I have seen that he does many seminars in the Parker style. He is considered an authority in Kenpo. BTW, where do you live and what MAs have you studied? The journal idea is something that I started doing a few years ago. It is a great tool for reflection.

YAH.....or have 5 people attack you. As far as you approaching the other guy, there is an old saying that if you look for trouble you will find it. My advice is to not look for it. -
I worked out last night. I learned a whole new application for our basic blocking system that I did not know even existed. How old is that? Seriously, doesn't every "style" go through an evolution of sort every time it is passed down? Heck, you could say that some instructors are "seeing" and "discovering" things every day making it a new system to themselves and to their students. At least that's my take. The whole idea of something being passed down from 2000 years without evolution is silly. You will see minor changes from grandmaster to grandmaster and instructor to instructor in the same "system". But at the end of the day is there anything that is truely original or are we just reorganizing the finite number of techniques and philosophies into new ways? BTW, my system can be traced back to the 40s but the gurus will tell you that it has ancient roots. You know, they are right and they are wrong at the same time. Chew on that.

I figured that would come from the book deal and movie rights. Rumor has it that you're scheduled to be on David Letterman tonight. -

Thanks delta1. So far so good. We do have our eyes open for Ivan. Hopefully we don't have to deal with that one. -

OK, I'm back online. Thanks for the wishes. I was very grateful to walk out of my house to see my roof on Sunday morning. My area was in the eye wall for six hours between 10pm and 4am (75-100 mph winds). It was a little nerve racking. The power was out for 3 days, but many people are going on a week. I cut trees and picked up my yard for 3 days. What a mess, this place looks like a war zone. Thankfully, there was only minor structural damage and everyone is safe. -
No, just your own style- the way you understand and use your art. There is a difference. That's the kenpo coming out in you.

Thanks. We are ready. I boarded up the house and have plenty of supplies. The key is to be prepared. -
She could have a picture taken with her new rank on with her instructor and have it framed for the instructor. It's a nice gesture and has sentimental value for both people.

Hands considered deadly weapon?
Red J replied to drunkenninja's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
"I must warn you that my hands are registered as lethal weapons with the FBI." Ralph Malph - Happy Days -
They should give you a white belt. If you have to test and pay, then I would be skeptical.

Well, now we have Frances on her way. She is a category 4 and projected to hit my area in less than 36 hours. My house is boarded and we are waiting. I hope it turns.
