  1. Oh and never fall asleep when your driving.....it always ends up bad.
  2. Thanks for the complament too....I like to hear someone say that martial artist tend to be stronger at least mentally than the general puplic. I agree on that (not all cases but most). It comes with the discipline I think but who knows. It was just nice to hear the respect. Something I hold high is respect. That is one thing that angers me more than it should. When people disrespect me....sometimes i tend to not be so level headed then, but the MA have taught me to not lash out on beat the crap out of anyone for not respecting me. I tell people all the time they have the right not to like me but don't disrespect me. If that makes sense. It does to me.
  3. Your mind can overcome any physical limitations almost all the time. Keeping your mind clear of negative energy is always a plus. Think possitive and don't get discouraged over anyone rising over top of you. I told one student who failed a rank test that he would probably learn more by failing and going back for more than by just getting it given to him. Never quit, you can rest, but never quit.
  4. Yep I do the same on number two. However I look at every fight scene and see if there is something that will work. Then I try it in the dojo. I also respect some of the people for their athletic ability because some of that I could never do. Basically I analyze everything. (Thats just my nature I guess). As for getting injured. I got more injuries from football than from MA. Well bad injuries anyway. I get a lot of bumps and bruises and even some minor breaks for MA. Hurt my shoulder and knee probably for life with football. So MA in some respects allows you to train your body to either recieve a strike or not even take a strike without much pain. I do hate wire stunts....crouching tiger hidden dragon comes to mind.
  5. Pulling back muscles does bite.
  6. Eggs are good in moderation. (like many things) Two should be fine. Depends on how your body agrees with them.
  7. I eat baby carrots sometimes. They work good for killing the munchie urge. I will eat them when I get hungry and don't want to make anything, instead of patato chips.....
  8. Good Luck....Learning to drive in snow can be a very good learning experience. (If your careful) I learned how to drive in the Winter on a hill that is straight up and very curvy. I think that allowed me to become a good driver in the Winter, but anyway good luck. Its easy.
  9. Welcome and Enjoy
  10. For some other helpful tips check out the thread Did you know.... Its in this same category
  11. Got to hate that....I'm considering teaching but not as a self proclaimed black belt. I'm just what I am. Brown Belt 3rd. That is how I will teach. It won't be a dojo either. Teaching in a church hall. Simple defence. I would do what I could to get him to reconsider teaching his own school. If he refuses then hopefully he won't refuse to not saying it came from your school.
  12. One thing in my school is the Master is dating a student....not good in my opinion. Respect has also dropped to an all time low with the parents being able to watch class. I don't know if the kids feel braver or what but it happens a lot more with parents there. Mocking the martial arts is something that annoys me also. People do their little impressions without knowing what the martial arts really consist of. That is a pet peeve of mine. I don't put up with anyone disrespecting me or my instructor. Even if I get punished for the way I punish them for disrespect I don't care. They need to learn it and most won't without discipline.
  13. I must be one of those rare ones. I cook, clean, do laundry, help take care of the kids, and do anything that is needed. Of course that could be just because I can't sit still. (haven't complited watching a tv show in like 2 years).
  14. Half Past Dead is Seagals lastest movie to come out in thearters. It recieved a very harsh rating by most people. (3.5 out of 10). A lot of these same people gave the movies, On Deadly Ground, The Patriot, and Fire Down Below very poor ratings. I have not seen Half Past Dead but as for the others I thought they were pretty decent movies. So has anyone seen his new movie and if so what did you think of it? Tell me why you liked it or why you didn't like it? Seagal has a bad rap for many things but I have a deep respect for his skill as an Aikido Master. He in my mind lets people see past the flash and see items that are practical. Okay wells its your turn. Tell me what you think of his movies.
  15. I practice an art called Goshin Jutsu Karate. Its a combo, hybrid you might say, but I like it. Has elements of shotokan, aiki jitsu, and aikido in it. Lately some grappling has started to emerge. Very adaptable system that allows what works into it.
  16. Yeah I have 3 final projects due for school. . That is why I have no time to study my martial arts. I'm at work now, can't work on it here either. To much to do in so little time.
  17. Currently I'm not going to class very often. The classes run 3 days a week at 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I try to make time to work on my martial arts outside of class. Lately haven't had much time. I usually post on the forums at work or school so I can't really practice at these times. So the forums is the way I stay sain at work and school.
  18. My advice on doing demos and performing in front of others is simple. Pretend your teaching the audience just like your teach in your dojo. (of course you won't break things down to much) Get rid of some energy also before the demo. That way your nerves don't kill you. I eventually liked the response of the auidence. Generally it was always good.
  19. I used to help with many demos in the area I live in. Nothing to special. Usually demos for the town or schools ect. I enjoyed it. Generally I did a peice on knife defence. (awareness and simple disarming moves.) We had different items in the demos. Breaks, Waza, Kata, Weapons all were in the demos somewhere. We did have a couple that had more emphasis on self defense. Now I'm to busy with college, kids, work, ect so I don't get to help with many demos anymore.
  20. Tito won huh....I was interested in seeing that fight. ... Didn't know when it was suppose to be and I never have time to watch tv. How did Tito win....was it by tapout, knockout? How long was the fight. Did he win convincenly? Details Please
  21. Hello and Welcome. Most of us are open minded. Shootfighting is a hybrid. Which goes with my philosophy of cross training.
  22. I just want my life back to normal. Money wouldnt hurt either......toooooo many bills
  23. Sorry women but I have to say this. Women will never be happy. Men will always be something they will look to improve upon. Each one trying in her own different way to think of a perfect man. There is not one, just like there is no perfect women. Another thing is women grade appearance higher than they let on. Specially now. Sorry if I made any women mad. Perfection can't happen with the human mind because of its ability to change, and we all know women change their minds often.
  24. My new goal is to get through each day. To many bad things going on right now for me. So my temporary new goal is to survive.
