  1. Shadow boxing is for speed and to watch how you do your technique. Kata gives you a series of techniques that you practice and your body becomes used to them. They are similar but different.
  2. My answers were posted and I think I did well.
  3. Nope I have never even heard of it.
  4. I agree with Kensai. If you understand the application of the kata then you are wise to choose to practice it. I believe kata and sparring a both needed. Kata will work you techniques and make them second nature (sometimes). Then when you spar those techniques may come into action. (even if they are not exactly the same). Kata and sparring can go hand and hand. Doing and understanding the application of both is what I would say to do. Of course then you get into the debate about sparring. Point Sparring teaches you some things but not near as much as full contact sparring. I am not that great at point sparring, however full contact I am.....I guess a mixture of everything would be the best possible scenario.

  18. In my dojo the gi's are black. When I start my school black, red, blue will be allowed.
  19. Keep fighting him is what I would say to do. You will only get faster and better at knowing what strikes he throws. Keep practicing. Do drills to increase speed if you need to. Don't concentrate on one part of the body. Keep focus on his/her chest area. That allows you to see more of the movements.
  20. I think the correct one depends on the style. I know ours is different than the one done in shotokan. I know it both ways. I just do the particular stance the way the style wants it. The correctness of this stance and many stances depends on the system. They all have variations.
  21. I like some things in Black Belt. Not all though. I liked Karate Magazine. I dont even know if you can get it now. I think the company that had it only has Kung Fu magazine now. Type in Martial arts , Karate, and Uk. in a search engine and you might find one.
  22. Yep...I sometimes have that wish too. Oh well.
  23. Yeah you would think that. Of course to an Eskimo it probably doesn't matter. Just a joke. No offense to any Eskimos.
  24. Uhh......you can never see my desk because that is the place all the mail and other documents gets thrown. Not to mention all the computer stuff...it is rarely ever clean.
