How hard is it to break three boards at once?
BlueDragon1981 replied to kchenault's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Probably pretty hard....I wouldn't know they don't hit back....so I never really got into the board breaking all to much. I have broken a board, block, board. They had an half inch space in between them though. If you stack on top of each other without space then it is harder to do. By the way the people who light the bricks on fire...well that does soften the bricks...not all that much though. -
This debate could go on forever. My opinion is just to train in what you train in and cut out all the nonsense of what some others claim or say. Listen to them and their opinions but you are you and you train how you train. Any fight can go to the ground, that is true, it is also true you can knockout someone with one strike which would make the fight not go the ground. So it is all in how you train or how your trained. If your trained to defend against something going to the ground then it is likely you have a better ability for it not to. So the training and each individual is what you have to take into account. I personally will take all the training I get, whether it be grappling, or striking I don't care. I'm in it to train, not to fight.

Things you won't accept
BlueDragon1981 replied to ramymensa's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I will never be pushed around either. I will never give in to someone who thinks they are better than me. I will never give up my beliefs. -
Just thought I would get all your opinions on this. I think it is starting to become a show, but it however does show how well martial arts can be used. (at least grappling arts, my opinion, and keep in mind this is my OPINION, is that the UFC rules are geared towards grapplers.) Feel free to tell me what you think. (make sure it is civil conversation.)

I don't have any ideas right off hand. Look at him for awhile. Study what he is good at and tailor a game around that. My take awhile to come up with something but if you study someone long enough you begin to know what they excel at.

Think of finding a new dojo.... I have a deep opinion on the fact that you will not learn much unless you are in a comfortable atmosphere. You could try talking to him. If he does it to just you then that is singling you out, but if he does it to all his students that may just be the way he teaches. Its up to you. Do what you think is best for you.

How do you keep young children to pay attention to you..... Just asking other instructors so we get lots of ideas. How do you keep class interesting........ How do you keep your class flowing...... Just thought this might be a nice thread to start for instructors for ideas and to voice your unique ways on keeping your class running.

Ahhhhhhhh...................... I don't think either team will return next year........ I'm looking for the bucs to lose someone big....... The raiders will lose a lot I think because of cap issues ...... I don't know, now I just have the anticipation of next year to come.

Ya the grade of the wood is important. I'm not sure what would be the best. Rattan must be good because a lot of things are made out of it. Warping and all that are things you have to look at when making a weapon. I'm no expert thats why I leave it up to the weapon makers.

I agree with G95Champ. Make an outline. You don't have to totally stick to it but at least it gives you some organization. Change up what you do. In the dojo I attend we mix up what we do all the time. One night will be sparring, then next forms, the next a split, the next split up the ranks and do forms and sparring. That kind of stuff is what will make it maintain interest. Same old thing get boring to people. Try finding unique and different ways to do things. Be creative....after all you are the instructor.

Help me with naming my Martial Arts school
BlueDragon1981 replied to Withers M.A.A.'s topic in Instructors and School Owners
The Winters Martial Arts Academy is probably your best bet. -
Running has been proven to make you lose the fat too. Of course it is the same thing. If you stop running the weight will come back on. I say exercise and eat what you want. (of course you have to be sensible about that..... don't go eating 10 bags of patato chips)

KarateForums.com Survivor 2?
BlueDragon1981 replied to Patrick's topic in KarateForums.com Announcements
Hey This will be my first time. I will do it. I will have to know more about the teams are formed and such, and the rules ect. -
I believe people have their opinions. However a knowledgable opinion and regular opinion vary. If you study martial arts and you study more than one style you know that each style has its weakness and strength. You also learn (some quicker than others) that each individual mental awareness about other people and arts can be molded upon the masters opinion. So if a master dislikes one art they will frown upon that art. Another aspect is that each person takes what they want out of the art. They may end up being an expert in karate but they could also just be breathing hot air. Of course my opinion on all the arts is based on each individual person. No art is better than the other. The person doing the martial arts takes what they get. The art is just a mold. You have to apply it and do what works for you. Through my experiece, some things work for me and some things don't. I take what works and try to find out why other things didn't (most the time it simple physics ect., not having your leg far enough one directions, that kind of stuff). So that statement says to me the person is just blowing hot air from an inapropriate amout of knowledge about the other arts he puts down.

I'm a 49ers fan so I don't mind.
