Spinning kicks and Arial kicks....
BlueDragon1981 replied to Jade_Lotus's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have never been caught by a flying kick or high kicks for that matter. Of course Im a defensive fighter with the ability to pick and choose my spots in point comp. Im sure they could be effective sometimes. Depends on the person your fighting. -
Beware of the "Dojo Bunny"
BlueDragon1981 replied to KickChick's topic in Instructors and School Owners
We have one of those in our dojo......needless to say she is a brownbelt in %90 less time than most others reach it. Also it is the main instructor the owner of the dojo who is letting her be the "Dojo Bunny" it ticks me off. -
How long is your class?
BlueDragon1981 replied to koreantiger81's topic in Instructors and School Owners
The class I currently attend is a hour and a half. We do stretches too however so if you dont count those it is more like 1 hour 15 min or 1 hour. -
How do you grade your students?
BlueDragon1981 replied to koreantiger81's topic in Instructors and School Owners
We basically train at the rank......when we think they are ready they take their next belt test. Simple to the point. Lower ranks are mostly tested on effort and if they get things correct. Higher ranks get tested on things such a good stances and doing everything correct and using the right emotions. Also most test with higher ranks are done with a panel so more people can spot mistakes in order to make them better when they test for their black belts. White and the stripes for it (in my system white belt gets two stripes for ranks.) anyone can test them of purple belt and above. (although they are usually looked at beforehand , maybe the week before by a higher rank. Brown or Black.) Green, Purple can be looked at and tested by brown also. Brown and above only by at least one blackbelt and the panel of whoever else of higher ranks. Do you get that all. Its easier to do than to explain. -
Teaching Children
BlueDragon1981 replied to three60roundhouse's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Teach how you teach but remember you can still make class enjoyable for them while instilling some discipline. I see a lot of school that have no discipline and it makes me so angry. -
I caught my Grand Master Smoking
BlueDragon1981 replied to koreantiger81's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I think that they do have their own lives. If they smoke however they should never tell their students not to. That is hypocritical. I mayself dont smoke and never will. I drink on very rare occassions (New Years, Independance Day) even then I do not get drunk. A few drinks and im done. (although when I was 16 I did get drunk a few times) So if i had my students I would say no smoking and light drinking with responsibility. I never would tell a student to not to do something if I do it. (well %99.9 percent of the time) -
My opinion is that it depends on the person. I would go and see how they taught and watch classes for awhile to see how knowledgeable they are. If I thought they would be a good teacher then yes I would join. Its been my exp that most schools if they get someone of the same rank they will recommend going somewhere else to get higher. Rank to me does not really matter to much. I have learned some things from white belts in different styles.

Little Know Facts......????
BlueDragon1981 replied to BlueDragon1981's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Jet Li had like around 9 gold medals by the time he was 18. He has also preformed for President Reagan. He is now 39 years old and he is only about 5'5" tall. When asked if he could take down 15 people at once he laughed and said no not in the real world only in the movies. He is probably one of the 10 fastest men in the world. (with his martial arts....not running and that kind of stuff) -
There is suppose to be a food that helps you remember more easily.....but guess what....I dont remember what it is. So if blood type and genetics are really the majority of the reason for over weight then why are there so many diets (my guess is money)

The Martial Arts
BlueDragon1981 replied to Martial_Artist's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I come from the area where blanks first started training and where he did his point fighting. Blanks was just that. A POINT fighter. He was a lot more flash than practicallity. However he is a good sport karateka. He probably could adapt himself to fighting for real if he tried. Billy Blanks is not my favorite person but I have respect for him. (even though there is a lot of proof that he didnt make up the Tae Bo system, he stole it off of someone else and pattened it and used his star status to promote it....just a good business man I guess) We should all at least respect both the sport and practical part of martial arts. -
What discipline do you train in?
BlueDragon1981 replied to Tapout's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My style is a form of karate. Would like to train in more than one style however. -

I love making custom maps on warcraft and starcraft. Have some really tough ones made. Then some that just make me feel better because you can crush the enemy with the way it lays out. I want to play WC3 but dont have money to get it now. I will someday though. I used to play both warcraft and starcraft online but dont anymore. Diablo 2 took there place.

Just a question...
BlueDragon1981 replied to tekkenchaos's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I have had a lot of bloody noses. Of course contact is aloud in my dojo over the rank of brown. I blame myself for not blocking most of the time and actually usually commend the person for hitting an open spot. If it was done purposely however and they didn't care that I was bleeding then I would not commend them. I usually just get even without making them bleed. (broken fingers end up happening then.) -
I like Dragons. My favorite color is Blue. The number is year I was born. Self Explanitory for me I guess.

A lot of the exercise mentioned by the poster (crunches ect.) do work your muscles very well. They do however build tone more than bulk. Which personally I would rather have tone than bulk. You can build without weights but most things do more for tone and endurance of the muscles. Weights really are what add the bulk most the time.

Little Know Facts......????
BlueDragon1981 replied to BlueDragon1981's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
People in the martial arts generally have a much better success rate in the USA. (of course this is based on what you call the rate) Most kids who study martial arts the majority of there lives until they are 18 usually end up with: Better Grades, Better Attitudes, and a better respect for people. Even schools that had boxing(sole called violent sports) had better success rates than the ones who didnt. It teaches discipline and teamwork. Unfortanatly schools are afraid to have boxing and other items like that an activity. The boxing programs in the US are going away in schools. I dont think any around here have one. -
Why did you join the martial arts?
BlueDragon1981 replied to LeaF's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Honestly I joined to learn how to win in fights. I have always been small and "week". So I started the martial arts after one of my cousins got in it. (smallest male in the family is me) I have been in it ever since. (Since 10 years old and im 20 now, almost 21) It has kept me in shape, controlled my old really bad temper, kept me away from drugs, and most of all taught me not to fight and just be me. I think that is one of the things martial arts is about. Just giving you confidence to be yourself and not worry about what others think. Also it keeps me from getting a lot of stress and helps me in my opinion with my two kids. They are a lot of work and all that (specially having two at 20) but I think my dedication to martial arts has helped me in my raising them. If I didnt have the martial arts I dont know where I would be. So the bad tempered little boy grew into a good man. That would be the story of my martial arts life
