I started college Monday (8-26-02). It is pretty cool. Going to take some work but I think I can handle it. I may have to stop going to my karate class but that is okay for now. I need to get my education. I will be getting two associates degrees. Business Management and Business Informations Systems. I will also be taking a couple extra classes so that I can get four certificates. (Entreuprener Certificate, Retail Management Certificate, Computer Technology Support Professional Certificate, E-Commerce Support Professional Certificate). So I should have something to show for my education once I am done with college. (which will be 3 1/2 to 4 years). So if Im not on to post it will most likely be because my work load is getting heavier. I dont plan on not coming back to the site. I like this forum and will be posting when I have a chance. Even if I have a heavy workload. (I will need to take breaks) The second question is kind of like a survey for me and to see what college educations we have in the Karate forums. To see what wide range of talents the people of karateforums has to offer. Reply if you wish to share your educational experiences. (High School students are welcome to say what they like and dislike about school.) Also Im sure any high school students thinking on going to college could get some good advice about particular fields from the Karate Forums members.

My opinion on BJJ is that it is good vs one opponent. One thing however I think that it is getting commercialized. Make sure your instuctor is qualified in your eyes. Try to stay away from the schools that you think look like they are just trying to make money. BJJ combined with a striking standing art I actually think is a good way to go. Combining a standing art with BJJ or Sambo will make you well rounded. I would like to combine Hapkido, Sambo, Aikido, BJJ, and a couple standing arts like Shotokan and the current one I study. That is if I can find any good schools with those arts in my area. (and once I have the time. In college now.)

Whatever. I know of other masters who do not have concreate proof that they are real. Yet they don't get disputed. You can say what you wish about Durant. The style speaks for itself. It works. I know because a number of test have been done. So you say what you wish about Durant. He ovasiously knew something because the style is a very good one. If you are going to Judge all the stylists on what you think you know then that is your opinion. I know what I know and what I have seen in person about the style. So just leave it at that. I have all the proof I need in the style. As for Durant Im not going to argue about him anymore.

Keeping your power supply area clean (the back were the little fan is.) Is important. Keeping dust off the computer will help keep static electricity down. Static electricity (although this is rare) can make some components on the computer not work. Keeping the dust and even hair out of your tower is a very good thing. AOL and Yahoo messagers sometimes conflict with each other when they are running at the same time. My advice is to keep only one chat program on a desktop at one time. The processor speed is not the speed of your computer. It helps but it is not the speed. The RAM and Bus Speed have a lot to do with how fast your computer runs. A computer with 256 Mg Ram and 500 mgz would run faster than one that is 128 Mg Ram and 700 mgz.

Some tips to keep your computer going is to do basic maintance. One thing is to defragment at least every 6 months. Also run a thourough scan disk at least once a year. (I recommend scan disk after installing items also) Delete your temp internet files once a month (at least, I delete mine every week). Keep your recycle bin emptied. Other things are to if something freezes up use the ctrl+alt+del. That way you can end task. Ending the task is much better to do first if something frezzes. Keep the dust off it as much as possible and dont let it heat up to much on a hot day. Try to keep any static electricity away from it. There are some general maintance suggestions.

This is my area.....Im going to be learning more computer stuff from college and I work for an ISP. So if you want ask a question and I will help the best I can. Windows 2000 is better than XP (in my opinion dont get rattled anyone who likes XP) XP has a lot of bugs that should not be there. If you have XP and your shortcuts on your desktop dont work then delete the one on there and find the spot where you can create a new one. This happens most often with a dailer. If you dialer shortcut doesnt work then you have to go and delete the dialer and then recreate it. This is because XP is created for LAN and Broadband. Dial Up does not work near as well on an XP system. (every once in awhile you will get a XP system that will work great with dial up....more often not however.) Also XP works better on some brands of computers than others. E machines is the worst one to use XP on. Dell is the best (most the time have came across some that the TCP/IP stack would not reset and with XP there is no way to reset them without going into a big hassle.) XP can be a good system for gaming if you can run the game on the system. Only way to know for sure if a game is going to run on XP is if it says it on the box. All the rest you are running a chance of it not working. Also with XP a lot of external things will not work without going and getting the drivers off of the internet. (printers, scanners, ect.) The printers with most problems seem to be HP. (unless the computer is a HP). If you have XP and you cant get webpages with dialup it might be because of the firewall that is on XP. With dialup you dont really need the firewall on. So turn it off if you have dialup. Also if you have dialup disable your network ports...(LAN, and 1350). The majority of XP systems also come with a V.92 modem in them. I know this because it was a hassle at the beginning of the year. A lot of ISPs are still not v.92 compatible. (We are now) V.92 modems have a lot more problems in themselves. (again you may get one that will work great.) Okay thats all for now.

Thanks for your input.... From my research just like Tae Kwon Do to the Korea's, Mauy Thai is a way of life or their past time. They say Americas sport is Baseball. Well Thailand is very serious about Mauy Thai. I pretty sure Koreas National Sport is Tae Kwon Do. Classic Mauy Thai has a lot more elbows and knees in it and has more ceremonial items to it. Most American versions do not have as many knees and elbows (at least not for sparring) and usually it doesnt have very much ceremonial purposes. Also it sometimes is used more for fittness in the US than in Thailand. Feel free to point out more differences.

Christian Martial Artist ??
BlueDragon1981 replied to Bro_Joey_Gowdy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Religion Shouldnt matter.....Look what things start in the name of religions. .... war is one main thing. The Martial Arts generally dont discriminate against any religion. Although some center around Buddism and Hinduism they never tell you have to learn the religion or be that religion. In the martial arts religion should not matter. Im sure I dont have the same religious beliefs as some of my class mates, ya know what though it never comes up in my class. No matter who you are there you are respected. Heck I dont respect my instructor as a person but I do as a martial artist if that makes sense. So religion should not matter. Religion, Race, all that should never matter. (if your wondering I am a Christian also) -
Mustard only has 4 calories. So if you need flavor to a sub or something and want to be healthy just use Mustard. If you like Mayonnaise your out of luck. It has lots of calories. Americans spent more money last year on fast food than they did on New Cars, and computers. Personnally after not eating at a fast food chains for awhile has made it so I cant eat at them. I get sick. Yep the only places I can eat out are home cooking places and Subway. I can also eat at Taco Bell.......That is just because I love Tacos. McDonalds, Burger King, Wendies (can eat here sometimes depending on what I get), all those places I can't eat at. Steak from the actual Butcher is better for you than from a grocery store. Specially if the Butcher cuts the meat correctly.

The Day of the Test ...
BlueDragon1981 replied to KickChick's topic in Instructors and School Owners
It depends on the rank in my school. If it is a higher rank then a panel sits in front of them to write down what they see. This is to help you get what you need for your next rank and to help with all the nit picking things that you do not want for your black belt. The black belt test you prepare for a head of time. A date is made only for that test. All the rest the head instructor either asks if your ready or just decides your ready. If you pass the test then at the end of class you find out. Before we bow out for the night the head instructor will call you up and give you your next rank. So when you are ready you have to be prepared to do your test at the spur of the moment. Sometimes in the past they would wait until you were tired but not so much anymore. The black belt is usually schedule because a panel of black belts usually has to be available. -
What's your story?
BlueDragon1981 replied to three60roundhouse's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Well in my school you start teaching at Green belt. That way you learn to deal with people early on. Usually a lower rank of lower ages wont teach though. Since most the time they dont pay any attention themselves. I am not shy but Im not all to outgoing either. Teaching for me has never been a problem if it is something that I like doing. I am comfortable teaching something I dont know all to well (being uncomfortable with the subject can be very aggrivating when teaching). In my school also the head instructor usually makes himself in a spot were if you need help then you can ask. Any rank of Brown belt in my school will asist you if you ask and are having trouble teaching something. I get asked a lot of questions and I answer them. So the way our school runs helps the way you teach I guess. -
It does in some ways...the person has to know how to use there size to their advantage or it will become a disadvantage. Some larger people may think they have the fight won just to be surprized by the smaller person.

Did you know that ingrown toe nails a a lot of the time caused because of genetics. If one of your parents gets them then you have more of a chance to.

I dont have mine and I dont really care about rank. Unfortuanatly the general public does not think that you are anything unless your belt is Black. That is why most people wait until they are blackbelts to teach. I have been in the martial arts for 10 years. My instructor has been teaching for ove 25 years. (Maybe even over 30 never really asked him). He has promoted about 10 people to black belt. That is low. Most systems have a lot more. He has probably had over 300+ students come and go through the doors. The style I study has a black belt for every aprox. %3 of the total student body. So we dont have a million black belts like other systems. Our test for Black Belt used to be harder. It is easy compared to what it used to be.

It is suppose to be ki. Unfortunatly a lot of places dont place any importance on how to do it right. They just let you yell. There is a correct way to do it. Once you get good at it you can make it so that you can Ki without yelling as you call it. It is basically a way to tense up your body to recieve a strike. Also you can get more power with your strikes. Breathing and concentration do a lot more to your power than some people relize

https://www.sportsforums.net would be a good place to disguss this. I dont think there should be a strike. It is a sport and you are suppose to have fun playing sports. It should not be all about money.

Im rather small for a guy. I fight both tall lengthy people and bigger people effectivily. Most the time I can use my speed on the bigger ones. The tall ones I get inside. Thats about it.
