  1. i agree. its very important to learn how to block and things, but what if you miss a block and get nailed? suddenly your body wont be thinking about what move to do on him or how to counter. it will just be thinking about how bad you are hurting. its important to be able to take a shot or 2 and still be able to focus on defending yourself.
  2. seems like a stupid decision to me. like you said, even if they dont want to continue training at your dojo anymore, at least take the BB test. all in all i think it would be a very unwise decision to quit after spending 6 years of their lives and hard-earned money without finishing what they started.
  3. man, and all i can think about is getting out of school!!
  4. take a look at this video. looks like a pretty physically demanding style to me. is this how all or many goju ryu schools train? its nice to see traditional karate using good ole tough training. training nowadays, you see too many wimpy people if you know what i mean. with all the blocking shields and there is so much sparring gear that martial artists are starting to look like hockey goalies. i think this is what martial arts training should look like. http://youtube.com/watch?v=eXY4FgKlLok
  5. wow, pretty cool story.
  6. i got 45% addicted. well, off to the rehab center
  7. i'd go for goju ryu. judo is more sport oriented and aikido will take years of training before you will be able to use it effectively. shotokan like you said is similar to TKD which you already have a Black Belt in, so i'd go for goju. it just seems like an overall good style.

  10. yea. the thing i like about it is that the pads are held at different angles and i like that you can move them up and down and even put 2 or more on the same side. but as i said, its pricey. i think i might take DWx's advice and try to improvise instead of spending the money. but if i happen to hit the lotto (fingers crossed), i think i might look into buying one. lol.
  11. Black Belt Magazine and Sports Illustrated for me. i also get old TKD Times and Inside Kung Fu magazines from my friend at my HKD school
  12. hey guys. my old school had this thing called a Wavemaster VTS (Variable Training System) but i never had a chance to use it. my new school doesnt have one but i am still interested in it. its hard to do some kicks on heavy bags like wheel kicks, hook kicks, etc. also, its hard to work on control and like aiming your kicks on a heavy bag. this wavemester vts looks pretty good though. do any of you guys have one of them or have you ever used one? i am interested in getting one but it is expensive and i want to make sure its worth it.

  21. lol... yes, very impressive technique.
  22. wow thats ridiculous. my dojang doesnt have testing fees. its absolutely free for every belt, including black belts. i always knew there were testing fees in some schools but $800? wow. that does seem like a hefty fee.
