no problem!

baron, obviously you dont know what im trying to say. at my school, we do tkd, hkd, and kickboxing. for the tkd, we point spar. for kickboxing, we do continuous full contact. for the point sparring part, i keep getting scored on because i use my kicks too much and my opponent jams me up and rushes me. so, i thought i should work on my hands. i told my instructor that i want to use my hands more during point sparring so i dont get scored on so much and my opponents wont figure me out so easily. my instructor then came up with a drill that, while point sparring, only one person can use their hands, and the other person can only use their feet, so it kind of forces us to get good at using both.

thanks a lot guys. its hard to spar the same people every day because as you all said, they can basically predict what i am about to do. i think the feints and fakes are something i definitely need to work on though. thanks a lot for the advice. i was just not sure what i should do with my fighting style, but im gonna try to adapt and make myself unpredictable again. bushido man, i actually talked to my instructor about using my hands more than my feet and he came up with a great drill. when we spar, one person can only use their hands. no kicks at all. and the other person can only use kicks. no hands, except for blocking of course. it actually helped me realize how important and how efficient hand combos can be. i guess i was always a little paranoid about being so close to my opponent, but now that i try to get in on them, i realize how hard it is for them to defend. i do the same thing they did to me, i jam them up. thanks a lot guys.

thanks for the replys guys. yea, i wish i could train with other people but i go to a catholic school so nobody who does MA lives near me. yea, i need to learn to punch more, but i always use my kicks for defense and by the time i get my leg down, they're all over me. i just think im more of a continuous kickboxing type of person. im good at the kickboxing at my school because you dont stop fighting after someone scores. its the point sparring that kills me because i have some really fast people at my school and its like as soon as i throw a kick they block and rush in on me. if they did that in kickboxing, there would be a big right cross just waitin for them, but since point sparring doesnt allow head contact, i cant fully extend my arm and its hard to score because you cant tell if it was a punch or just my guard extended a little too much. ps1, i love long stances but my teacher doesnt allow it. i take MDK and he always tells me to stand up tall and use my reach. i always sink my stances and he always tells me to stand up tall. all in all, i guess i should try some new things. it would really fool my classmates if i started looking like a boxer more than a TKD guy. they wouldnt know what to do with me.

hey guys, my school is pretty small. we only have about 5 people in class every day so there isnt too much of a variety of fighting styles. in my school, i am the tallest person and have the longest kicking reach. when i started, i was completely owning my opponents, but now, they are learning how to get around my kicks. they keep on coming in and jamming me up, finishing me with a punch. i try to stop them with a sidekick when they come in but they just block and counter. how can i become a better fighter and start winning some more points like i used to? should i keep practicing more kicks and learn how to stop my opponents with kicking combos? should i learn to fight inside instead of using my kicks as much? gimme some advice on what i should do guys. thx.

In Your Opinion, What is the Most Superior Weapon?
french fri25 replied to TigerCrane's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
i love the bo staff. i wish i had a chance to train with it. i also love the arnis sticks. -
nicely put. it all depends on the person. i have not earned my black belt yet but i train 6 days a week and my school is new so classes are very small. each person gets a lot of attention. there are only about 6 people in each class. lol. i am the 4th highest rank in my school and i am only a 7th kup. so, it will probably not take me so long to earn my BB because of all the individual attention. im thinkin 2 1/2 years for me to get my black belt sounds about right.

good luck dude!! Make sure not to eat mexican food before the test!!

i'd also go for the broomstick. i am pretty tall for my age so i have been trained to use my reach advantage so i think i would be able to adapt to the broomstick easier than i would with the knife.

hey dude, welcome to the forum.

kiai's will tense your stomach muscles so if you get hit while trying to perform a technique, your body will be tense and ready to take the blow. at least thats what i've heard.

JKD Belts
french fri25 replied to Kodiak82's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
i did JKD for 6 months at professional school and, yes, we had a belt system. did the JKD Bruce Lee taught personally have a belt system? no. some schools do, some schools dont. i think my school had belts just to hold things together a little better and to make it more organized. but, it wasnt a requirement at my school to wear your belt. -
thats true Bushido Man but and i understand that you cant punch each other in the face in class. but, if you learn to take shots to the body and you do get into a street fight, you wont have to worry as much about getting hit in the body, you will be able to concentrate 100% on protecting your head. protecting your body will become secondary, protecting your head will be the primary goal, and a trained Karate-Ka should be able to protect his/her head because 1) they are trained how to block 2) their head is a small target so they should be able to cover it decently with their arms.

same thing happens to me. i have the pro force hapkido uniform, medium weight. the pants arent bad at all, but as you said, the top is stiff as a rock and is wrinkled a lot. no matter what i do, i cant get the wrinkles out.
