i would never do online or video martial arts either. a student should be able to ask questions and learn philosophy and take in knoweledge of a live instructor. by learning things off the internet, you cant really do that. the only thing is, you could keep in touch with the instructor by email, so it wont be THAT bad. you can train online if you want, but make sure to email questions and comments daily to the instructor, so that you can make sure you are doing techniques right and so you can really learn the art. what i suggest is if you do the internet training, dont get too hooked. as soon as there is a decent instructor, GET TO A REAL DOJO! the internet training should only be there to keep you in the MA state of mind and will teach you some basic techniques. it shouldnt be something that important to you that you would give up the opportunity to train in a real dojo for. just do it to keep the MA mindset and keep your eyes open for a real dojo.

hey everyone, i have been wondering and kind of have this feeling that moo duk kwon is kind of like tae kwon do, with more tradition and not sport oriented. i was just wonderin if you guys could clear that up because my sabumnin teaches hapkido and tae kwon do but says he bases his tae kwon do around more of a traditional method instead of a sport oriented method and said that it is actually more like moo duk kwon that he teaches because mdk is based around more realistic fighting methods rather than how to score points. could someone please give me some info about the difference between moo duk kwon and tae kwon do? thanx in advance french fri25

Help! Sticky situation .. no training
french fri25 replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
hey man... the same thing happened to me.... well, sorta. i was signed to a 6 month contract at a JKD facility, but decided to go check out this hapkido school near me anyway. i took a free class and he asked if i wanted to join and i told him that i couldnt afford it until my JKD contract ended. about a week later, he called and said that i could go to his dojang for free until my JKD contract was up. so....now i do hkd, and its all because i told the sabumnim about my situation. just talk to the guy, you might be surprised at the outcome. plus, it cant hurt...good luck french fri25 -
hey ummm, while we're still on the topic, i am looking into switching to karate or hapkido from JKD because i love MA tradition and was just wondering, which type of karate has a decent amount of joint locks, throws, and grappling involved? thanks for any info french fri25

hapkido as a complete MA
french fri25 replied to french fri25's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
well, thanks a lot for all the info. i guess i have to agree with you. i believe that whatever martial art you practice, as long as you practice it hard enough, it will be street effective. once again, thanks for the info french fri25 -
hey everyone, im doin JKD right now and am kind of into MA tradition which JKD doesnt have, so im thinkin about leaving my JKD school and goin to this hapkido school near me. i already went for a free class and liked it because of all the traditional fighting methods, and the bowing and meditation and stuff, and it seems like a well rounded MA. the school teaches hapkido, taekwondo, self defense, pressure points, floor fighting, and weapons. i know JKD teaches a lot of these things too but i want the tradition in my martial arts training. i was wondering wat u all thought about hapkido, TKD and everything else this school teaches as a good, well-rounded MA. will it be effective in the street if i practice it enough? also, my JKD class is very crouded, meanwhile the HKD school only has like 4 people each class, literally. so anyway, thanks for the info in advance. french fri25

hey everyone in my school there is a judo club. i am doin JKD now and my school teaches more striking than ground fighting, joint manipulations, throws, holds and things like that. i was wondering if you guys thought it would be good to cross train in judo and JKD. i know that it is never really a bad thing to learn another art, but if i do this judo club, i will have to spend less time at my JKD school. also, i know that judo is mostly a sport so i was wondering if it had many realistic self defense techniques and grappling like jiu jutsu and hapkido. thanx 4 the info french fri25

thanks for the info everyone. unfortunally, the links that you posted of the schools are not located near me. they all look like great schools too, so this kinda sucks. but i just wanted to say thanks a lot for the info anyway. any other posts would be greatly appreciated. i will take all of your advice. as my 6-month contract winds down with my current school i will begin searching for other schools. once again, thanks for the info french fri25

hey everyone ive been looking into karate but dont know which type to do. i heard ryu te is a really well rounded style but i also heard that uechi ryu is good too. i am looking for a type of martial art with mostly realistic self defense techniques. there is a hapkido/tkd school near me that i checked out and i really liked it, but i was just wondering if there was a type of karate that had self defense and maybe some grappling techniques. i live on Long Island in New York in suffolk county and was wondering if anyone lives around there who knows of any good karate or other martial arts schools. thanks for the info french fri25

My Friend Needs Your Thoughts and Prayers!
french fri25 replied to Sohan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
my mom has had 3 types of cancer and i know wat it feels like to have someone close to u that u feel like u cant do anything for. praying is certainly the only, and best thing to. even though u feel helpless, you are not if u pray. i pray a lot that god can never have to answer another prayer for me ever again as long as he helps my mom get better. the other day, she actually came home from the doctor (which she is always at) and they said she was getting better. the cancerous cell count was down and the kimo therapy seems to be working, although i truly believe that the real healing process is coming because of me and all of my family's prayers for her. so i will definitly pray for him and hope that his family, and his martial arts family dont have to go through wat my family went through french fri25 -
hi everyone, im john and am a white belt in jeet kune do. ive been doin it for 3 months now and should be testing this upcoming week for my yellow belt. at my school, tests are very brutal and are usually 2 and a half hours long. since my body will be put to the limit i was just wondering if there are any testing tips any of u use. wat do u drink? water, gatorade, powerade, etc. wat do u eat before u test? pasta, chicken, or do u just eat some fruit, etc. also, since tests are 2 and a half hours long. do u think i should go all out and let my body be tired for the last bit of the test or do u think i should go at a nice steady pace. i shouldnt go my hardest and just go a little easier so i can save my energy? i just wanna hear wat u all did. thanx in advance for the advice french fri25
