  1. some types of karate that include a decent amount of joint locks are wado ryu and i believe ryu te. those would include the most joint locks you would find in a traditional karate system, but all karate styles do include them. as for the hand strikes, basically all karate styles use more hand techniques than kicking techniques. ive heard 7:3 hand to foot ratios and 6:4 hand to foot ratios for most styles of karate but all styles will vary depending on the instructor.
  2. welcome to KF dude! the white belt avatar just symbolizes your number of posts.
  3. who will win out of the two and why? do you think the loser of the two will retire? how about the winner?
  4. congratulations dude! keep up the great work and keep training!
  5. congrats man! you must be very proud of your son. that is a huge accomplishment and i wish him the best of luck in his future years as a black belt.
  6. http://www.karateforums.com/post373456.html#373456 heres the link i was talking about. i was all worried over nothing. just go have fun.
  7. exactly. very well put lordtariel. everyone always makes a big deal about tournaments. including instructors sometimes. its just a good, fun way to see some different styles and meet new people. i think its the trophies fault. when your in class sparring, you dont try to kill your opponent do you? but, as soon as someone sees the big shiney trophies in the back, suddenly they turn into some killing machine. forget the trophies and have a good time. believe me, i had recently went to a tournament and made a big deal about it. i even posted it here somewhere... but in the end, i just went there and had fun and did my best. truth be told, trophies were the last thing on my mind. if you forget about trophies and trying to impress people and making it like your life depends on winning, you'll have a great time. believe me, its a great experience. you'll be happy you went.
  8. well yea, i personally dont think i would actually use the thing. thats y i prefer just stretching by myself. but, if you actually think you'll use it then go ahead. i like what bushido man said about the resistance. your legs will automatically try to close when you self stretch and so you have to concentrate. but with the machine, i agree; go grab a good book and just read, while the machine forces your legs to stay open.
  9. i dont think its worth the money. i think stretching by yourself is just as good. if you have a partner to stretch with then thats even better. but i dont think it will make such a drastic difference in your self stretching or stretching with a machine.
  10. same here. i just walk away. i aint gonna be the one to start somethin just because someone thinks he's a tough guy.
  11. that is a pretty sweet trailer. looks like some good stuff there. let us know how the actual vids are.
  12. welcome to KF!!
  13. wow. looks like a great school to me. many different programs offered. the instructor sounds like hes a pretty nice guy too.
  14. i say good for him. it must be pretty scary for kid to be at home alone and be able to find the courage to defend his posessions. the kid didnt know if the guy had a weapon on him or anything. very brave. im happy he didnt end up getting hurt.
  15. wow. thats a shame. i looked up to that guy a lot too. he did always seem like such a nice, honorable guy. but we all should remember, just because of this incident, it doent mean hes a bad guy. who knows why he used the drugs. im sure he didnt have them prescribed to him but he shouldnt be seen as a bad guy because of a mistake. he still has a chance to turn his life around and get back on track.
  16. i dont think that would benifit you very much. you wont learn enough with books. i think it would be a better choice if you just went around your town and tried out some different schools taught by a real instructor. even if you dont find the style you were looking for, its not a big deal at all. you shouldnt really be looking around for styles. you should be looking around for good instructors. who knows, maybe you'll find something that catches your eye.
  17. welcome
  18. welcome to KF!!
