  1. i took JKD for a little while and the school lacked the philosophy that your school seems to include. im glad you found what you were looking for. keep training!!
  2. there is nothing wrong with asking your instructor for help. that is his job. but, if you want to try to learn them again on your own, this site seems to have a decent amount of forms. http://www.natkd.com/tkd_forms.htm
  3. welcome to KF!!
  4. welcome to the forum dude!!
  5. yea, i love making smoothies. i use strawberries, banannas and blueberries most of the time. it tastes delicious. you should try it.
  6. welcome to KF!!
  7. im really sorry to hear that. my thoughts and prayers are with him.
  8. lol. its the day when the united states gained independence from britain.
  9. i would choose muay thai, japanese jiu jitsu, and krav maga. this style would be called muay krav jitsu... i guess. i think it would be a pretty good style because it includes all ranges of fighting. it will have kicks, punches, elbows and knees of muay thai. the grappling, tradition, and history of jiu jitsu. and the modern, street smart self defense of krav maga. not a bad combo if you ask me.
  10. cool. glad you like it. as long as you use it, you should get some good results.
  11. happy 4th of July!! stay safe everyone!!
  12. as already said, it cant hurt. MA will probably help the person build coordination and focus skills.
  13. you could also look into krav maga or a russian MA. those usually contain a good amount of hand strikes, no kata, and good self defense techniques.
  14. excellent job Matt! keep on training... black is right around the corner
  15. do what you want. your instructor cannot make you compete, so if you dont want to, then dont. people take martial arts for many different reasons. some people take MA's to stay in shape, build muscle, learn self defense, to compete in tournaments, to have fun... your reason is different from other peoples reasons. if you didnt join martial arts to compete, thats fine, and your instructor shouldnt force you to
  16. welcome to KF!!
  17. welcome to the forums first of all. second of all, i dont think training in 3 styles is such a good idea for a beginner. i say take one and maybe when you start to feel comfortable with that style, you could start another style. if you want to be able to defend yourself, muay thai or bjj would be smart choices. as for the tkd, it depends on how the instructor teaches it. i take moo duk kwan but my instructor was a green beret also, so our classes are brutal and we learn excellent self defense. go check out the schools and see which one you like the most, but i definitly dont think you should train in all 3 at the same time.
  18. yea, repetition is all you can do. another thing, usually dojos practice kata facing the same wall each time they do them. after you do each kata, switch and face a different wall to try and give yourself a different atmosphere and it will confuse you at first but it will eventually help you. a lot of students dont remember the kata itself, they remember the walls they have to face, so by starting off looking at different walls you will eventually learn the moves, not the walls. try doing the kata in different places also like your living room, backyard, the beach, etc.
  19. yea, seems like a smart move to me. if you dont feel comfortable with your kata and need to work on it more, then dont rush yourself.
  20. well obviously, the higher, more natural stances would feel most comfortable to most people. i sure wouldnt go into a fight using my horse stance or walking stance. i'd use a nice, high fighting stance that would allow me to be in the most natural posture possible while still being able to protect my self as well.
  21. muay thai, kyokushin karate, and possibly shotokan could be what your looking for. of course, its going to depend on the instructor, but these styles seem to be pretty equal between kicking and punching. good luck with finding a style your happy with. but, remember, its more important to find a good instructor rather than a particular style.
  22. awww man thats great! congratulations!!
  23. yea, pretty nice vids there zanshin
