Thank you very much Jiffy. My sensei is 5th dan and just because he has karate clubs doesnt mean he stops training. As will be the case with me, i will keep climbing and keep learing, there is always something to learn and training never stops if your dedicated and passionate about the sport. Thanks again kez x

I think 'kiai'ing' is very important but only at the right times and places. It shows power. I once did an awful one. I was performing Jion and my moves were sharp and powerful, i was just about to do the kiai and my throat went funny and it came out as a very high pitched scream like a baby. Everybody laughed and it totally ruined my kata. Tut Tut lol

Thanks yeah that seems to make sense. The pain in my elbow happens when my arm is outstretched immediatly after executing the punch. Thinking on though, i have been getting pain in that elbow for a while, when my arm has been bent for a while my elbow hurts when i stretch it out again. Somebody suggested i may have a condition called 'tennis elbow'.

Not at all. I will be patient. I have dreams and a goal and i don't see anything wrong with that. I need to work towards it now. I am a single mum on benefits, i haven't worked in 12 years and have no savings. The only thing i want to do is teach and i was simply asking advice on how and when to start/do things to work towards that! i fully appreciate the fact that this is going to be a very very long process. Thank you for your advice. Kez

Maddwraph, thank you so much for bringing this up! I have the exact same thing and was embarressed about it. I had a bath and even though i had washed i still had body odour from my armpits i was mortified. So Sohan's advice has helped the pair of us, thanks to both of you Kez xx

On monday we were concentrating on combinations for our grading in august. We did Kizami-Tsuki, Oi-Tsuki, Gyaku-Tsuki. On doing the first (kizami) i got a terrible shooting pain from my elbow to my shoulder. It lasted a few seconds then went away, but because it happened i couldn't execute the whole combination properly let alone with power. This seems to be happening a lot and it's effecting my karate which is so annoying because i just want to do well. Can anyone shed any light on why i'm getting this pain when i punch hard with this arm, it hurts and it's getting me down. Kez xx

I can hold kiba dachi for up to 20 mins plus, through experience i have very strong legs, it appears in kata a lot and in certain situations you have to hold your position which also helps. It will ache for a while but the more you do it the better you will become. Follow Brandons advice, he is spot on...as always!!

How do I improve my speed?
Shotokan-kez replied to drunkenmonkey blackbelt's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Our sensei always says worry about technique first and concentrate on speed after. -
I wouldn't even know how to pronounce it! I had never heard of the style until i joined this forum. Like everyone else said i'm sure you'll be able to google it.

When do people quit most?
Shotokan-kez replied to bat in a birdless village's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Like me iceman i would like to try another art suck as tkd or muay thai, but i do need to gain permission from my sensei first. This doesn't mean i will quit at 1st dan because that isn't the case at all, i want to continue up the dans. Shame other people don't see it that way and feel they have achieved every thing they can when they reach their first dan. There is always so much more to learn. -
Aww well done to Italy. They deserved the win, Zidane deserved to be sent off he was well out of order doing what he did? Any idea what that little tantrum was over?

When do people quit most?
Shotokan-kez replied to bat in a birdless village's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Generally at our club people just tend to drop out whenever, there doesnt seem to be a particular pattern. What i have noticed is that people show up for classes less and less after recieving their black belts, which i find sad really. -
