Based solely on the technique of the kata here is my take having never done Sochin and only seen it a few times. First the technique was very controlled and shapr, yes I agree some of the kicks could have been sharper but after hiking, your footing and with yoru shoes on not bad overall. The kime was clearly there. Nice job..

How do I improve my speed?
Brandon Fisher replied to drunkenmonkey blackbelt's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Actually he was World Middleweight Kickboxing champion. He's from Indiana and graduated from Ball State University (I think). The man is incredible on what he does with just his left leg. I have stood in front of him several times and been his uke or has he said his dummy and tried to block the kick I knew was coming and where and still couldn't. He is the reason my kicks are so fast, he was the inspiration and he showed me how to do it. Unfortunetly I need to get my flexibility back to pick up the speed again and mine are no where near slow. -
Is there anyone else from the Shorinkan organization?
Brandon Fisher replied to AirBorne-karateka's topic in Karate
I studied Shorin Ryu Shorinkan with Renshi Tom Ward in Indiana. I wasn't back in Indiana long enough to achieve shodan but I am working with Sensei Ward to try and do that from a distance. Won't be easy. But still proud that I have been a part of the organization, it is a great organization with great karate. -

Pro Force makes some nice ones. -
I still perform my kata very delibirit and strong. Not really fast just explosive.

That Mawashi Geri was beautiful and the head didn't move thats not excessive at all. There is more contact to the head in adult black belt divisions at the tournaments I go to. Kez, Its got a lot of XMA flair in my opinion.

https://www.mtv2.com I think there are video clips of it.

That one guy that is insulting karate needs a good but whoopin'. Matt Mullins is the only one that I saw really show any skill and that was jsut XMA stuiff. This guy has a traditional background (Shorei Ryu) and he is doing this. I sorry I watched 2 nights in a row and at first I thought this is better then I thought. Tonight I was just insulted.

Miracle Technique and Miracle Workout
Brandon Fisher replied to Jiffy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Great post and I mean GREAT!!. You hit the nail on the head. I have training 22 years and I am a Godan and I still learn about and improve my technique and increase my knowledge. After this many years the Kihon is easy its precise and strong but I am working to make it more precise and stronger each day. I am training hard again which I had not been allowed to do the past 10 years because of my old instructor. I encourage everyone to train hard and get the most out of each training session. This is the only way to grow and learn. Oh by the way did I mention this thread is GREAT. -
What do you think of XMA?
Brandon Fisher replied to aruder's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
You can compare XMA with Capeoria just a little different. I wish people would call it as it is. -

The claim is he had been training for 45 years but from his picture he didn't look at old but I could be wrong. -
any one want to make an exercise video for karate or tkd?
Brandon Fisher replied to matbla's topic in Karate
Sorry try again I had a typo in the link: http://www.yamazato-videos.com/ Studio will be done by black beltss that know what they are doing and not just students. Don't except just anything. Or just bring someone to class with you to video it. Sometimes you just need to grab the bull by the horns and do it yourself. Thats how you learn and progress. Take the opportunity and try to do it on your own. You will grow as a martial artist by trying to better yourself instead of someone showing you how all the time. No excuses just effort. I have had several students who were learning disabled (I hate the word disabled) but did well and achieve their goals. Some to black belt. I am visually impaired was bron totally blind and I am a 5th dan. My wife has a major balance problem do to a brith defect she just made 1st dan. You can do it to but try harder. -
I am sorry to hear that. Sometimes its really tough to keep pushing through but if you have a goal you have to do it to reach your goal. Other times like it sounds like this time you just need some time off to relieve the frustration.

Best Academy of Martial Arts
Brandon Fisher replied to The Almighty Ram's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thanks for telling me where to look. Well it wasn't Shotokan it is USA Shudokan. Still shaky to me. Yeah this seems very odd to me. You can buy that many ranks and I have heard of people ranked that high in 2 systems but not 4. The question I would have to ask is how proficent can someone be studing that many styles and having that high of rank. In particular the 8th, 9th and 10th dan. The karate instructor wearing that Kyoshi belt which outside of ju jitsu is typically worn at 7th and 8th dan sometimes 6th in karate. In ju jitsu its more common at 5th and 6th. But to this just all seems a little shaky I would be careful. That doesn't mean that they are not ok just things seem weird. -

I was looking for instructor bios but didn't see them on the site. Anyway they are claiming to teach budo as a style budo is not a style it is the "martial way" not a school or system of martial arts. Thats the thing that bothers me. To many people claim to teach budo and many times make themselves sound or look foolish. Even if they are very qualified. Look at https://www.uskk.org they are based in Peoria, IL and might have a dojo in Champaign or close. They teach Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu -

Rebreakable Boards--Which One?
Brandon Fisher replied to Cross_Trainer's topic in Equipment and Gear
I refuse to use rebreakable boards. To easy to injure yourself. Also stay away from breaking with gloves like that its a false sense of accomplishment. I broke 2in patio block with a punch through the metro yellow pages which actually weakens the strike. -
Shureido all the way. My black shureido lasted me 12 years before I finally threw it out. I have a new one on the way though.
