It gets very old very quickly! Plus when ppl tell you it wont be long that doesnt help either!! -
Thanks all for the support x Sparkey it sucks doesnt it! What makes it worse is (no offence Jay et al) is when people say oh you can still do a bit of practicing. Not when it hurts this much to even stand up you cant! With our style of karate as well, and at the level I am at, I cant really practice just blocks etc, cant wait to get back at it!

Yikes got to go for an Arthroscopy, keyhole surgery where they stick a camera in my knee to hopefully repair what damage has been done. Sounds like lots of fun! Thankfully is just day surgery and hopefully should be back on my feet in no-time. Unfortunately eith NHS waiting lists what they are I could be waiting up to 6 months for the surgery. Grrrr

Good Luck -
Its impossible in our club to get to black belt in 2-3 years, from brown belt you have to attend a minimum of 4 pre-dan assesments, these are held every 6 months. So you would have to get from white to brown in a matter of weeks - I doubt even Bruce Lee could do that!!

Im 23 and I feel old! Other than obvious health limitations dont feel that you are too old or too anything to start an MA - a good instructor will set a pace you can live up to and not pressure you if you are feeling unsure. Good luck if you havent started anything yet, if you have then let us know how you get on!!!

I prefer to teach the kids in our dojo. It can be extremely hard work but extremely rewarding. A lot of children prefer being taught by a woman (must be the maternal instinct LOL). I think if they respect you but arent afraid of you then they can learn a lot from you. Even as I sit on the side lines at the moment they still come to me to ask me if this technique is right etc. All I would say is be careful you dont go too far into the "friends" zone. Of course stay friendly and open but sometimes, with kids especially, if they become too jokey with you you can lose a certain level of authority that you need when teaching. Just my thoughts

We have just seen "the other 48 days". Yes the way Walt talks backwards is cool, and my how he has grown from last time we saw him!! Whats with him being soaking wet as well? I dont want them to get rescued, I want them to live happily ever after on the island !!!
-
We get a lot of kids doing that - however most do it on purpose!!! P.S Congrats on Orange Belt!!!!!

Watched "the other 48 days" last night. Mmmm that Ecko fella is looking mighty fine. Clever use of the old wooden stake by Ana Lucia. Still dont like her though, even when she cried towards the end I didnt warm towards her at all. Am glad Sayed saw Walt. Although he was Vvvvv creepy!!!

I think its useful to learn the basic plan of higher katas but it can backfire with kids sometimes. They tend to get stuck to doing techniques a certain way early on so its usually best to focus on getting it right first time. Seniors and adults should have little problem learning higher kata if they have mastered the basics.

Am only talking about white belts, and as (hopefully) these arent worn for long its pointless to spend money on a seperate one as opposed to the one you get with your gi
