  1. i maya noy ask this of all my stugenys but the ones that are dedicated and i see really have the potential to become skilled in the ma s i may suggest this kind of training to. personally i do it but that is me it is nothing im gonna force on someone, cause frankly it hurts but after awhile you become immune to these things and then you see what else you cam throw at your body. its not suited for everyone but give it a try
  2. really the best thing about the two different punches is that the matsumura punches are best suited to the body strikes, and shornji to the face. since the wrist is horizontal in matsumura it lessens the chance for some turning into a punch and snapping your wrist(happened to my sensei when he first started because he used a shorinji style punch for body blows.) and since the hand is vertical during a shorinji punch it fits real well into eye sockets and such. also i would like to comment on the comment left by NievesOSK, the idea of a bone block is not really to slipp past the attack but to nuetralize it with the force in the block, your chamber to the block is what should really hit first though. if you chamber correctly you should punch the hand or leg coming in woth the chambering hand and then smash it with the blocking arm. there is no real redirecting in our shorinji techniques. its straight force against force
  3. they are each different, matsumura ultilize a straight stance, while shorinji use a ninety degree stance and when the punch is released it becomes a straight stance thus putting a hip twist into it
  4. there may be circumstances that you are not aware of, you should just worry about your test and forget about hers. if she is testing she has appartently put in the time and effort to be promoted
  5. i think the you have to petition the headmaster and soke council to open the books on the styles and to rank you in your own style
  6. plenty, we introduce all basics ay white, all i expect is for them to be able to perform it when i call it, no real correction. and in kata just to have everything in the right direction
  7. i agree, but in order to see your art the way that the master did you should train the way they did. i also agree about the air conditioning, i have students that whine about how hot it is. apparently they have never trained in the middle of the summer outside in texas wearing full gi, no fun but it never hurt me so i dont see why we shouldnt
  8. if they are turned away by the way i train then they dont belong there, i dont teach ballet i teach a combat sport. it may be a way to hurt yourself but thats why it is built up to, im not gonna drill a jukyu with punches like that, but an ikkyu or shodan is gonna feel it
  9. most okinawan systems use the panel belts and red belts, butt i believe uechi ryu is the exceotion and uses the ranks you were talking about
  10. i think the similarities of the 2 may be confusing to student and you would end up having someone get them crossed up. in my opinion the japanese would be the best to teach becaus eit was created to follow the same principles of your style
  11. we do something silimlar but in stead some one just does techniques into your stomach while you do the lifts
  12. i have busted both sets of ribs, and i hurt my knee bad when a buddy was showing me something he had learned in Judo, but i have bad knees anyways so it wasnt a surprise it would eventually happen
  13. really depends as my system contains both Matsumura and Shorinji princinples. both are what i call "quickkill" systems it just the means in which you get to that outcome that differ
  14. i have only had one insyructor and i wish he was the way he used to be he has been sucked into the mma world and frankly i dont wanna go woth him. but i believe in one main style and maybe picking up a few tricks from others so i have set out to find a new shorin ryu instructor
  15. isshin ryu stemed from matsumura seito shorin ryu which contain both types of punches horizontal and vertical as well as many punches in the naihanchi katas which are upside down. the vertical fists come from shorinji which is basically okinawan shaolin style
  16. favorite to to perform it seisan, and favorite to watch is chinto
  17. anyone who is willing to spread their art the way the creator intended it to be without changing it to suit themselves
  18. straight punch to windpipe, most likely a fatal strike
  19. depends on where you strike him. insides of limbs and strikes to the neck area could be fatal with just one depending on the amount of force
  20. i neat mine againist a tree when i get them it work real well
  21. kataaro and shuriedo one is american the other is okinawan
  22. shuriedo and kataaro are both good companys and both do embrodeiry
  23. enough tom get you out of a situation. if you are a excellent striker and gave a general knowledge of grappling you will be fine in most situations.
  24. i really think bo is taught first due mostly to tradition. in okinawa they had to be able to pick up a weapon fast and the bo would had given them the best chance of survival against a samurai. weapoms like nunchaku or tonfa were better suit to more advanced karate ka thats why you usually learn them later
  25. if you are in close you have the best chance od getting the most power out of your technique, especially if you apply hip movements like in the naihanchi katas. and i also would have to say it reallty depends of the area you are targeting as to if your hands or feet will be more powerful
