then it most likely is the step over kick, my style is based on Matsumura Seito, as is Kenshin Kan. so im pretty sure on this one
-
sounds like a step over kick, we use it to kick into the knee and damage the knee cap. what style do you practice
-
when you first learn it in my system it is taught straight and together, but as you progress it becomes curved and by black belt you mostly have your fingers apart since your hands are strong enough at that point

if you are anywhere near Pawtucket, RI there is a school called Okinawan Temple Karate Studio and is one of the best Shorin Ryu dojos in the world. they teach real Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu. now if your not into hard contact karate there is no point in looking them up. but if you want real Okinawan karate than there is probably no better school you could find. their website is https://www.okinawantemple.com. i am not sure about prices but im sure it is not outrageous.

the only test i was ever really worried about was my blackbelt test. i knew my teacher was going to throw me into the lions pit, our blackbelt tests dont really put your fighting skills to the test as much as your ability to never give in. during my test iwas being so badly hurt that my body went into shock and started to lose most of my motor skills and i really didnt have the ability to talk. but other than that i have never been all that nervous.

since we've started up on the laws and such, what, if any, circumstances do you believe it is okay to use techniques that you know would have the outcome of death or extreme injury to the attacker? is it just in your eyes to take a life to save your own? and how do you think you would react emotionally knowing you have taken a life?

"Lying" for Protection?
unknownstyle replied to Johnlogic121's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i have once to avoid fighting a guy at a party, one of my friends was telling the guy i was a blackbelt and he was like than lets fight. so to keep myself out of it i told him to fight me he would first have to fight my friend who is also my student(my friend is very big and is intimidating) and at that point he said nevermind. -
the closest thing i know of in my system that would cause devastatiob to the organs would be what we call 7 10 punches. what i does is the punch hit slower than it is recoiled and it causes the organs to be spread apart and as you withdraw they snap back together causing extreme pain. a good example is the kiai punches in Naihanchi Shodan

i liked that he showed them the pressure points but he should have showed them a way of doing them with more force and in a way were they would not have to struggle. just quick release so that they would be able to get away.

well most of mine are armlocks, my teacher is not very fond of them so we dont learn a lot of them. i have been experimenting a lot with kyusho, and throwing techniques as well though. i was told by another sensei that any technique in any kata can be used as kyusho, tuite, kuzushi, nage waza or bone breaks and from that point on i have just been throwing things together.
-
what i was looking for mostly was not what you have been taught but more what you have developed from your own understanding. if we just stick with what we are taught than we will never have full understanding as to how the technique can be applied. kata has limitless possibilities, and their are alot of people that see them as useless and empty. its our job as a generation of practioners to keep these traditions alive and to build on them. sorry i think i got off subject.
-
i did mean in that sense as well, but using the chamber alone is has amazing applications as far as kyusho goes.
-
has anyone been taught how to use the for kyusho?

Training with famous martial artists.

i went to one of mr. wallaces seminars in 2006, we now have adopted his stretching routine into our routine and i learned alot in that short seminar -
another thing my sensei will do to us on occasion to see if we are focused is to look off in a totally different direction. usually you can fake them out and make them look and when they do you crack them

5-6 days on a good week but at least 3

my name on the left and my rank on the right. im gonna get a new one made with all hebrew. but with the system name above the rank on the right

wanted to hear some other ideas as to the bunkai you know for the pinan katas. ive been researching them alot and am trying to come up with some new concepts.
-
what i have been taught is the same thing that Musashi speaks of in Go Rin No Sho, the thousand yard stare. if you focus on nothing at all and let your opponent blend into your surroundings it actually makes your brain process information faster because instead of being 3 dimensional you are seeing in 2 dimensions. thus increasing your ability to see you opponents movements and giving you the upper hand

KI is the best for the long haul, all of my century gis have lasted me less than a year, my KI has last me a long time, and my instructor has an old stone washed looking one that hes worn for over ten years and he has only had to fix the gusset in the groin area because he had put on alittle weight and i tore when he went to kick

i agree with bushido man since i started out striking it made it alot easier to figure out distancing in throws and controlling techniques. i dont know what type of striking you incorparate. but one thing i do know works is if your student gets to close you throw a front kick at them to show that they are in you striking area

the calluses are not the important part, in order to have a good punch your wristand hand have to be able to take the impact. ill bet that if you asked most martial artists to throw twenty of their hardest punches into a bag alot would come out with sprained wrist and broken hands.so you must devolop these things first. plus the repeated impact will leave calcium deposits on your knuckles amd make them larger and kind of ugly

Did your dad teach you how to fight?

Insight on Double Promotion
unknownstyle replied to ItalianMuayThai's topic in Instructors and School Owners
isee nothing wrong with it, i have been double tested twice from 6th to 4th and from 3rd to 1st. i am the senior student of my teacher and have proven that i can teach and prove my skills as a black belt. when i wear a plain black belt other instructors thibk i am a nidan or sandan when im a shodan. so i dont believe that it messes up anything that your learning, unlike school you are constantly exposed to the materiel you will learn at later ranks. in my opinion its the instructors decision to test whoever they want to whatever rank they want, we as on lookers opinions dont matter and shouldnt. -
School/Teaching Method Dilemma
unknownstyle replied to bwesleyp's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i would agree there are many similarities to japanese karate styles and TKD, but not so much with okinawan karate styles. okinawan styles in my opinion are much harder than any other style with the exception of maybe muay thai.
