Yeah watch the 8th and 9th Dan thingy lol But go and watch both classes. Watch the higher ranked students see which one you think is hte best. Both styles are very much alike in many ways. I do shotokan and love it but I hear a lot of good about the other as well. But its about who is teaching not the style they teach so.

Two changes I would like to see in the UFC. 1. Kicking the down opponent. Yeah I understand if a man is on his back you should not kick him but when Fighter A tries to shoot and his knee is on the mat. I think Fighter B should be allowed to kick him in the teeth. I think that is a unfair rule to strikers. 2. Final round time limit. Maybe not for all matches but title fights anyway. I would like to see no time limit in the final round or in the OT round. Let the winner, win in the ring.

If you go back and watch the first few UFC's by II they were already talking about how to sue BJJ and do something with Gracie. So the style vs style aspcet only lasted one show.
-
It never was style vs style really. I mean yeah the first one you had a guy wear boxing gloves and guys in a gi but in reality we all throw round kicks and jabs. In todays world with the internet and tv I don't you could ever hope to see a true style vs style format. In all truth each style has a little of everything in it once you understand it enough. Style is only a place to start.

"Human Weapon" on the History Channel
G95champ replied to Adonis's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think the show is doen pretty good. I think they wanted someone like Bill who is not a great MA so they could show how much he actually picks up each time they train. Jason often says he goes back to his MMA stuff. I really liked the first 3 shows did not care for the one on Savate. -
training @ black belt level
G95champ replied to KNOCKuOUT's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes I don't think anyone under 15 should ever wear a black belt. By 15 one is able to do most the physical and start on the mental things you need. -

Physically when I made my black belt I could do all the kicks and crazy moves. But I did not understand many of them. Im not saying you don't become a better "fighter" after black belt Im just saying physically there is only so much the body can do and by the time you reach black belt there are not many new moves to lear if any. Unlike all the new understanding that comes along with it. I honestly think most your training after black belt is mental. Thats not to say you don't put on the gi and work out but its a differant approach to yoru training. -

I found the mental trainign one does at black belt is much more. Physically one don't get much better from black belt on up IMHO. -
The Human Weapon

Did not care much for the Savate show. It was ok I guess just not as intresting as the other 3. Looking forward to Judo next week. -
I think that is the main goal to react without thinking. How quickly that happens I think depends on the person. Their age, intellagence, athletic ability, etc...

I need to do more but the simple answer is. RUN gross I know but RUN, RUN and RUN.

Why do you do martial arts?
G95champ replied to Sir Gerbil's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I started to become a better Football player. After my Fr. year I knew I needed more flexability, balance, and enduracne. All of that tied into a general intrest got me in. Once in I got hooked. Oddly enough when I quit playing football in college the first thing I did was find another MA club because it had became my first love at that time in my life. -
what's the point? (if there is one.....)
G95champ replied to brokenswordx's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Ill add its harder than most think to kill a man with one strike. Yeah it can be done but lets be honest if it happend a lot a lot more guys would be dead and MMA and Boxing would be banned. Not to mention baseball, hockey, and any other sport where one could get hit and die often. -

G95champ replied to brokenswordx's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My point is close to what Pat said but let me add a bit to it. A lot of people, women espically will carry a gun for self-defense. All Im saying if you carry it. You better be ready to use it. Because if you draw it and are not willing to shoot the person chances are they will take it from you or get away. (nothing wrong with them getting away btw) Now as far as calling the use of a gun a Martial Art. I got no prob. with that just like archey IMO. But I myself. It would not bother me to break a guys arm or even hit him in the throat but I don't know that I could pull the trigger on anyone. Unless it was in war. People think the use of guns is the simple way out. SD without training my point was simply that no its not if you carry you better have the guts to use it. Let me add if you misuse it your going ot jail. Nothing worse than killing somone who was not an attacker by mistake. Hard to do that with an kick, punch, elbow, or joint lock. -

Yeah I would say do what is local. In time you may have a chance to do others. But 200miles is a lot for anyone. -

G95champ replied to brokenswordx's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
thats the thing if a person is really going to hurt you it prob. don't much matter what you know. My point was going for a gun will more likely get you killed if you do not have the guts to use it and most of us do not want to ever shoot another person. At least I hope not. -
Back Leg kicking is a huge part of most MA's. I used to read BBM alot but have not in a few years. I try and teach my class that you should prob. never open with a rear leg kick because its slower and the person can see it comming but at the same time if you can land it then why not. Being in Shotokan I vew the back leg like the reverse punch its going to be my KO move. Be it a godo Round kick, Side Thrust or Spin Kick but my front leg like my jab and backfist will take care of most the action if it can.

The prob. with a gun, mace, knife, batton, chain, key, etc or anything else you carry as a weapon is you have to get it and have it handy. 99% of the time you may but that one time you don't will be the time you get jumped. As I said above a weapon does you no good unless you are ready to use it..... Espically a gun... Mace or some sort of Peppar Spay IMHO is the best weapon to carry because no one dies in the end. Truthly no one should be hurt to bad. Pluse you got range and its easy to carry and anyone can use it.
