Do you all teach the nature translation of the Heian series in your application?
-
Yeah no question a good move of Funakoshi's part to switch them.
-
Ok so you do both TS adn HS for your first belt. Heian Nidan IMO is the hardest of the 5 Heian kata because its so diffferant than anything you have done up to that point. I can only imagine how hard it was to learn before Funakoshi swtiched it to 2nd in line from first. Most of my kids like Heian Sandan the best as well.

Didn't I just talk ot you in the karate section lol
-
So your training Heian Shodan?

Sparring and Fighting are 2 differant beasts. Heck watch UFC guys spar then watch how careful they are in a "controled fight" Few tips. 1. Hit and Run - Don't stay on one guy too long and never let you feet stop moving. 2. Stay on your feet - Jujitsu is great on a padded floor one on one but IMHO in a real fight you better be able to strike and strike hard. 3. Take out the leader or most agressive person first and hope the rest get the idea. 4. Use or find a weapon. Your belt is a good one but anything that gives you KO power or someting to make distance with. 5. Back to the corner. I know it sounds stupid to back into a corner but if you have to fight don't let anyone get our of your range of vision. Back to a wall or in a door way is perfect. 6. G.E.T. Training GROIN, EYES and THROAT then GET the heck out of there. Hit them where it hurts its not sparring!

This fight would set up a good 2nd fight with someone like V. Silva or Tito. However, if the fight is close he may want to look at a Bonner type of matchup before getting into that B+/A- group. The UFC is in bad need of heavy weights I look for Chuck to go up in class before long.

It's not the new teaching are bad but as far as keeping the art as it was then you need to go with the way they set up. In all honestly most the masters that we look up to changed the kata from something else. There is nothing that made them the say all and be all. Except they took the time to write it down and the system grew around what they taught. I agree with the post above there is nothing wrong with changing the form just make sure you tell those you are teaching what your doing and why. However, If it were me I would stay with the way my style and association taught it.

Being able to award rank?
G95champ replied to tacticalreload's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Simplest way is for you to train her and find one of your old teachers to oversee the exam. -
Its not a bad fight to go up weight classes.

ps1 I do remember you for years ago.

rank test how do you figure what to charge?
G95champ replied to jaedeshi's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I only chage 15.00 for Kyu this covers the belt and certificate so I mae nothing on tests. However, I am not teaching to make a living either. Few things you prob. need to think about. 1. Are you testing everyone or just those you think are ready. (if you test everyone and some fail do they get their money back) 2. If a student were to jump a rank must they pay extra after the fact? 3. How much is your class per month and should the test be more than that, the same or less? 4. Will you give the test or will you have another instructor come in and do so. If one comes in are you going to play him? If so the cost IMO shoudl cover his price. 5. How much does other local clubs charge? Other styles and the same style. 6. Will you give family rates to those testing if you have brothers, sisters, parents etc all testing at once? 7. Cover you cost. Belt, Certificate, Path, Gi, etc I don't know what you use or give but make sure you don't lose money. 8. Specail deals like perfect attendence= no testing fee. Or sign up X number of students = no testing fee. Good luck if I can be of help just msg. me. -
Rampage did not look very good. He did land a few big shots but never hurt Forest although Forest was cut like usual. Forested dominated 2 and 4 and prob. was only really beat in round 3. I think the judges had it 28-26 28-26 and 29-27

When does learning really start?
G95champ replied to bushido_man96's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
At birth First day of class When you teach take your pick -
Again in our crazy legal system who knows. I would say you should not but at the same time you see everyday on the news a guy that breaks into a house and is hurt and presses charges on the home owner. My advise is defend yourslef use what force is needed and if you go to jail you go to jail at least your alive.

sorry I hit post to quick. Basically the judge said he should have called the cops and had them deal with it insted o takign matters into his own hands. In other words the 3 drunks charged him with assult.
-
LOL understood The more to the story was I guess instead of just hurting one he hurt all 3.
