How often do I change my workout routine?
G95champ replied to Maddwraph's topic in Health and Fitness
Depending on your age, health and goals you should change the program up every 6,8 or 12 weeks. -
Since the 2008 Olympics will be in China does anyone know if there will be any MA events added. Like South Korea added TKD in 1988.

Yeah and I have also seen red in the very low ranks where most place a Gold or Orange Belt. We changed our second purple to red several years ago just ot have another color belt for the class. However as you said many use it as a pre black belt rank or a rank set aside ofr a Master.

what's the point? (if there is one.....)

Sorry I made you use upper case letters lol -
Belt color is nothing but a way for a school to set apart peopel at differant areas of their training. There is no right or wrong order. A general rule of thumb is to go from light color belts to darker color belts. Red is the odd ball that may fall anywhere.

Well problem number one ----- Get in a real class. Not saying your friend can not teach but if you want to learn its more than just picking a few moves here and a few moves there. You get better when you do what you don't like doing. Number two ------------- the real world not many if any teens below the ago of 18 no matter how skilled they are in any fighting system are going to be able to defeat a large man who is trying tor REALLY hurt them. Sorry thats just the facts. Age and Maturity are just things you can't teach. carrying weapons ------------ I wish somone would do a study on this but Ill be my left arm that more people who pull a weapon on a attacker are hurt than those who just tossed them their wallet. -
Real life do what you do best. Real fights don't last long enough for tricks. Sparring matches in class or in comp. yes you may need to have a trick or 2 up your slever. But I usually do the reverse I start with stuff I don't normally do and finsih with my better combos.

my biggest... weakness ??!!
G95champ replied to masterintraining's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I see this a lot. A good student is in a class with a lot of lower students and because he is not pushed he developes bad habits. The simple answer is go back to the basics and start over. I don't mean take off yorubelt but go back to what you did or where taught early on. Simple things work best, fancy stuff gets you in troulbe more often than not. One other thing to keep in mind. When 2 people spar together a lot they tend to learn the other sperson style. Thus a person who may not be as good in the grand scheme of things looks better vs a person he or she is used to working with. So maybe you just need to work with differant people. -

Yeah If I was you I would just stop training.... If anyone is in MA for any other reason than to better themselves they are in it for the wrong reason. Now that may come in a lot of shapes and forms. As a Fighter, To get in shape, for Self Defense, Stress, Education, Hobby, Meet Women or Men, Socail reaons, Popularity, Rehab from past injry, etc. I don't care but you train to better your life. Just like lifting weights, running, ridding a bike, swimming, walking the dog. There are a lot of reason as to why you think you do it but in the end we do it to better ourselves. Your looking to hard into it. BTW carry a gun if you want but if you don't have the guts to pull the trigger I'd say your in a world of hurt if its life or death. -

I have seen a lot of people kick a baseball bat and break one but when he broke it with his forarm last night in a blocking motion I was like WOW. Espically since the bat was only being held by one man. -

G95champ replied to brendangaz's topic in Karate
Well I am on the East Coast in West Virginia. Im sure you can find many JKA schools in Calf. Rey Dalkie teaches at Riverside Calf. as part of the JKA or AJKA now I guess. He was the one who tested my Sensei. You can go to fska.com and find a list of FSKA schools just look under the affiliates. -

I bet they go to several schools or styles. With both shows so far they went and studied differant sub form of each. I don't see why karate or kung fu will be much differant. But yeah I can't wait either. -

I saw the one on MT and the one on stick fighting thought both were very well done. Can't wait to see the new show next week. -
We use both but I try to use the Jap. when I can. When I train with my Sensei I understand a lot of what he says in Jap. but when I teach I find myself thinking about the words so I just use the English. I like the counting in Jap. I think its simple numbers to say nice and loud that don't drag out of your mouth. Sometimes we split the class and I teach one part and another person teaches the other side. Espically if we are doing drills liek kicking targets and then one of us will speak Jap. and the other Eng. just to keep our side clear on who is speaking.

I have a lot of students drop off after their first or second belt. I don't want to say I give those ranks away but at the same time I don't really care if they are a white, oragne or gold belt lol. However by the time they get 9 months into it or so they find the testing and training picks up a lot. I had a student come to me a few months ago and said I've been this color belt for 7 months and this other person has already tested 2 times and almost caught me. They wanted to know why they had not been given premission to test yet. My answer was because you are asking me that question. I think people need to see success early on but by the tiem they get to say 7 Kyu nothing is free or simple.

Yeah we did some partner drills tonight. It wa something we never did much when I was going up in rank but we will give your stuff a try next class.

We have all saw people just messing arround and throw round kicks and side kicks really slow in place. Now I'll be the first to say I don't train for that but I've been in Martial Arts for 13 years now and I can't come close to doing that. LOL. Bach when I was a color belt I remember us standign at the wall and picking our legs up and holding them and stuff but even then I never could do that. Is there any specail training anyone does to develope that skill? Im sure my size hurts me in that but I can do a split and Leg Press 1,000lbs so Im sort of lost as to why I can't do it. LOL Any hlep would be great.
