Tito Ortiz: Highest Paid Fighter in MMA History
G95champ replied to Patrick's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
IMO Tito could still be a HUGE draw becasue he has the name. With the exception of Chuck Liddell I think the avg. person has prob. head of Tito Oriiz over most other MMA fighters. I never was a huge Tito fan espcially early on. After the UF3 with him and Shamrock where Tito coached the red team. I really saw a new Tito. However, after the Shamrock fights which were ugly because Ken was way past his prime Tito did not look good in his next few. The first round of his fight vs Forrest being the exception. Tito did well early on because he is a GREAT athlete and had a good chin. However, as better and better athletes have gotten in the UFC his skills has not kept up. I still think Tito has soem good fights left in him but the 205 class in the UFC is so deep IMO his best best is to go up and fight the heavy weights where his athleticism could take over much like Randy Coutour did or as it looks he has done go to a new leauge where he can be the start for his last few years. -
Yeah like I said you can do pretty good damage without ramming your hand into sand for years lol. Again nothing you want to waste time on IMO.

I would use spear hands if the chance was there. Just from goofing off with friends and such I've found that you actaully need little conditioning to inflict pain. Now your not going to break boards with one but if attacking a soft targer then you can use it with little risk.

I should note we grade each person based on a scale if there 100 people just like them testing. Obviously certin ages can do more athletically and mentally but their still has to be a set standard. The stance must look good. The techinque must be crisp. The kata has to be correct. They must show power, speed, focus, etc. Again a 8 year old is not going to look like a 20 year old and 50 year old is not going to look like a 30 something but if you take that person and say this is what a good person at that age and skill leval should look like you will know. Again don't be in a rush to test if it takes 3 months or a year make them wait until they can show you that they are ready.

9-11 should be able to do the kata. It will take them longer but they should be able too. Younger than that maybe not. Yeah they can memorize the pattern but thats not doing the kata. Anyone below 8 Will prob. only go up one belt rank in our club. We take things into account as far as Age and stuff but if you can't do the stuff then you don't get the belt. Just be up front with mommy and daddy and say look he or she is learning and the rank wil come in time.

Teaching Special Needs Students
G95champ replied to Tiger1962's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I would not consider ADD and ADHS really Special Needs. I was thinking more along the lines of Downs or some mild form of mental handicap or disability such as being in a wheel chair etc. Being a High School teacher and please don't take this wrong I think you hurt both them and the general students but putting them in the same class. Espcially in school. I am a HUGE fan of skill grouping in school. However many are not because of hurting somone's feelings. -
hey another PA boy. Im in the southren part of WV but I do go to Morgantown from time to time.

Teaching Special Needs Students

Let me add I also think you would prob. need to seperate them just so you did not hold other students back. Keep them in the beginner class and or their own class. Sure their are times to bring them in but in general I think the more one on one you can give them the better it is for them and at the same time the less disrupton you have in the main class. -

Just be really up front with the parents be careful because many times they have weak bones or can't control their balance or power. In general I think the cordination and exercise for them is more a goal than belts obviously. As far as Rank I don't know obviously you can't hold them to the same standard but at the same time you want to see them progress. Maybue use a belt system that your club does not have such as Belts with Stripes or other colors. -
Yeah its not a huge deal but after about 30mins of kata or sparring It keeps comming out so I just leave it out lol. If we do basics I got time to adjust it between sets. Its not that I care just looks unprofessional lol

I am a large man about 6'1 330 or so and even when I buy a large Gi like size 7 or 8. I still have troulbe keeping it inside my belt. Does anyone know a site or store that sells extra long Gi tops? Please PM me or email me if you don't want to post the link. I don't think you can. Tahnks.

I think most will say they would rather saw him fight a bigger name but this IMO was a good first fight at the new weight class. For those who missed the fight I won't go into detail there is not a lot just don't turn your head. LOL They said he walks around at 215 so. Based on what I have saw from him in 3 years he could hold not just 2 belts but 3.

How was day one?

white owl I see your in Pitt what school are you with?

1. Kanku Dai - simply because it has parts of the 5 heians in it. So Im getting 6 for the price of 1. 2. Tekki - Pick one don't much matter but the ground work they teach must be kept. 3. Sochin - Great kata for teaching the hard and soft of karate 4. Bassai Dai - Great kata for teaching the hard. 5. Empi - the grace, speed, throwing techinques all taught in it are very important and it carries a speed or rythem to it not many kata do.
-
Best Karate is well done espically for basics but the Kata is the weakness of the series.
-
The Best karate books got good pics and do a really good job with basics but they are weak on kata IMO.
-
Honestly Im not a big fan of the best karate books. Karate Do Kyohan is by far the best book out there for kata that Ive used. The Kenneth Funakoshi video series done in the late 80's by Panther is great for kata. A guy named Kelly does a few books on Shotokan that are really good not so much on techinque as it is history and ideas behind the art. Both his books are under 20.00. It may have been in the Kelly books where I read the stuff as well Ill have to check to make sure.
-
Most schools have differant color belts it really don't mean anything. I have read and constanly read shotokan books including Funakoshi's KDK. However, I learned this translation from a web site called 24 fighting chickens. It not longer exists. Well it does but its a pay web site and Ive not been there in some time. I do have another book that goes into this Ill have to check the name and the writter but Ill get back to you on it if your intrested.

No, prob not lol. Each one of the Heian kata stands for one of 5 differant elements in nautre. Earth Water Fire Wind Void (aka the unknown)
