  1. Run or Fight both are good options but the situation makes the decision. Get in a good MA school and if you have you have to. Otherweise get the police involved.
  2. welcome wow small type
  3. Just as a good karateka would destroy a grappler standing. Whats your point???? LOL did not mean to sound smart. LOL
  4. welcome
  5. welcome
  6. Shotokan does have ground fighting moves. The Guard is hidden in the tekki kata. Shotokan also includes a lot of throws taught to Funakoshi by Kano in Toyko. Its not BJJ or Judo but we do have enough ground work in the traditional Shotokan teachings not to get us killed down there.
  7. If you saw a shotokan person not punch with their body you did not see a shotokan person. We are a power style and hip movement is key. Yes we do go right in but we do a lot of shifting. Its not as graceful an art as TKD prob. but its not robotic either. Shotokan school that I have been in (good school) basically teach the same way. I have saw peopel say they were shotokan and teach differant techinqes but in most good shotokan schools you only work a few moves over and over and oever.
  8. 3 months or more
  9. Seems my statement got a little (confused) I guess I should have said Shotokan does not train for competion to the dregree TKD does. But its all about the teacher. No question.
  10. Just do a internet search Im sure you can come up with some kanji.
  11. The jump in Unsu is more than a 360 you land on the ground in the process os the body sort of spins in the air as it lays down. Very hard jump. Great kata wish I knew it. LOL Best of luck
  12. The best teacher because no style is bad.
  13. It would have been Great to speak to and train under Gichin Funakoshi. I do plan on doing so under Kenneth Funakoshi in the next year or so. I would also like to see several of the higer ranked Shotoakn guys Ozakka, Tanakka, Rey Dalkie, etc...
  14. The only edge you have on the street is suprise.... Once that is gone the edge goes to the preson who can stay calm. As far as techinques go on the street follow this simple rule. If you got em Smoke em.... LOL
  15. The Techinque plays a bit part in that. Im a bit differant in that Im right handed but I fight from a left handed stance. I do so because I love the jab and backfist more so than my reverse or cross. With that said I don't consider myself a very powerful puncher so it really don't matter. LOL
  16. In real life if I am attacked and I get a groin shot hand or foot you bet Im striking there and striking hard. Now thats real life. In the dojo? In a tournment? Pardon the pun but your nuts.... This is the 21st century were not playing for keeps. I never want to hurt anyone espcially a classmate or opponent in a event. When you talking about groin shots your talking about HURTING someone. I mean heck lets just punch to the Throat and poke the eyes out. Martial Arts is about control and respect and IMO kicking or striking to the groin should not be done out of respcet and it takes control to do so espically if you get a little red. Spiderman quote again "with great power comes great responsibility" Amerian as hundreds of nukes why don't we just bomb Iraq and get it over with? Because its not the right thing to do. Its a quick fix but lots of good people suffer because of it. Kicking to the groin is a simple way to win but Martial Arts suffers and the person you kick could be really hurt, forget about losing. I would rather lose a match to anyone that kick them in the groin. Again on the street thats a cat of a differant color. I got back to the Karate Kid quote"A man confronts you on the street he is the enemy, the enemy deserves no mercy"
  17. Well there should be a set of basic moves you always come back to. EX Shotokan has 4 major blocks, 2 major punches, and 4 major kicks. Reguardless how we change those though opeing the hand, spinning, hip placement to make them look fancy its still the root move. All our throws, take downs, etc come off of those 10 moves more or less. Add to that 3 stances. I don't think you can study 2 differant arts at the same time. MT and Sumo not a good mix IMO. BJJ and Boxing not a good mix. Just way to differant. Now thats a good combo if you wanting to be a MMA fighter but as far as doing things in class I think you should have ONE base style and then venture out. Nothing against being taught 2 if they work hand in hand like TKD and TSD or Judo and JJ. Thats just my take.
  18. Nothing will ever repalced a good teacher
  19. Judo is a very good fit with Shotokan because Funakosh trained with Kano (judo master) in Toyko for some time. Both were good friends. Both took a lot for the other and added it to their style. Akkido would be a good tie in as well but the training for Akkido is so differant from Shotokan you would have to bridge a lot of the gaps yourself. Shotokan to Judo and Judo to Akkido would be a nice step by step process. IMO
  20. Nice Job KK75 on the Brown Belt. As far as teaching goes its not about rank but ability. You have to be a good speaker and the class must respect you as a Martial Artist and a person. I have trained with Sempai's wearing black belts that were lazy jerks and I did not enjoy it at all. Then I have trained with Colored belt Sempais that I saw busting their hump in class before and I respected them. Teaching is about how much respect the other have for you know not what you know. Because in all reality there is not a lot to know. Teaching is just getting the idea across.
  21. Kids that young usually don't have to do much to get them ready. In fact forcing them to stretch my just run them off. The Animal Walks is a good idea. Outside of just touching their toes, shanking their arms out, and maybe some trunk twists I don't think Id but a lot into it.
  22. Pretty good show.
