  1. Don't turn this into a style bashing war, or this thread will be closed. Thanks My opinion would be the best martial artist would win, not the style. It would depend who trained harder, and more often. It would be the one who is more dedicated to their art.
  2. I took TKD and Judo together, and I'm not a black belt. The styles are different enough where you won't confuse them. I don't see a problem with it. Try it out
  3. I like traditional arts, BUT every school I trained at was mixed. I did TSD, Hapkido and a little Muay Thai kickboxing. My boyfriend's school (which I trained at for a while) mixes TKD and Kung Fu. My school mixes TKD, kali and other stuff. It all depends on the instructor. As far as kata/forms, When I did TSD, I looked at other arts to see what kata they did. They all did the same kata! They were slightly different, but they were the same forms.
  4. Oh yea ..... ouch. The toes. I broke them many times. Big toes from either martial arts or kicking something (outside of class) that I wasn't suposed to LOL Like walking in a dark house and kicking/stubbing my toes on something.
  5. Try this site: https://www.bilang.com It has "how-to's" and many MPEG's to watch.
  6. My TKD school actually learns to grapple. Not all TKD or karate schools are the same. It's hard to put one art into a "stereo type" because not all TKD or karate schools teach the same stuff. To some extent, old style TKD did have some type of grappling. I think Judo is awsome, but it doesn't mean it's the best. I don't think any art is the best. But most arts have something to offer. I've learned bits of many arts (TSD, TKD, Hapkido, Muay Thai, Judo and Jujitsu .... mostly from previous schools being mixed). I took what worked for me, and kept it, and "chucked" the rest. You just have to take what works for you, and go with it.
  7. My "mid-rank" test (it's sort of like a black belt test, except it's for blue belt) is coming up in August. I have to work on EVERYTHING!!!! LOL
  8. I'll move this too "Getting started in Martial Arts" forum where you will get more help My opinion would be: go to Hapkido with your boyfriend. That way you have a training partner, and he can help you. My boyfriend and I trained together, till I left his school, but we still train at home. It really helps to have someone close to you train with you. It really helps.
  9. Keisotsu, I am also a right leg kicker, and you are totally right about the left leg thing. I shall do the same as you. I have to get my left "up to speed" so to speak
  10. Cool topic I will move this to general MA, so everyone can enjoy it I am ALWAYS working on technique. Besides that, being more effective at the self defense stuff. And relearning peices of my forms. This school teaches them differently than my last school ..... and I'm totally confused ggggrrrrr LOL.
  11. In TSD, it would be my old TSD instructor. He was awsome, and very strict on technique. I like C.S. Kim, also (International TSD Fed). He is sharp! I have a few of his vids. His technique is almost perfect. I saw him at a tourny I attended, and he just floored me! In TKD, it has to be my instructor. Very knowledgable. He knows a lot of pressure points. He knows about "ki" and meditation. His technique is also very good. My fav famous person has to be Jackie Chan. He put my two fav things togehter .... Martial Arts and comedy He's a funny guy. Plus his stunt work is out of this world!
  12. Well, my style used to be known. Now it seems it "fizzled" in most places. I do Tae Kwon Do Moo Duk Kwan. When I tell people that they say, "That style still exists???" YES!!! LOL. Tae Kwon Do Moo Duk Kwan: It's more of a traditional style of TKD. We do more self defense than anything (joint locks, throws, take-downs, counter grappling, ect). We do both the WTF TKD forms and the Tang Soo Do forms. When we spar, we use the WTF rules (well, not always hehehehehe). Our style is so similar to Tang Soo Do (besides the WTF forms and sparring rules). My GM (Ahn Kyung Won) was one of the original guys who trained under GM Hwang in TSD, so that's prolly why it is so similar.
  13. Hey. Welcome to KF. I like the quotes from both of you
  14. MA: Short term Actually get my black belt this time LOL. If for some reason I have to move again, I'll just keep trying My goal has always been "Black Belt Excellence" (from my TSD days). That includes technique, learning everything I can, and teach (I love teaching people MA). Long term: I want my own school. But my goal for that is to be, at least, a 4th dan or higher first. And learn one other martial art. LIFE Short term: To better my health. I am going to study to be a fitness and nutrition gal. Long Term: With my last answer, I want to help others get healthy. When I open my school, I will have MA AND fitness and nutrition club. And I want to just live day by day and enjoy life
  15. I do both in class. The instep is quicker, but the ball of the foot is more effective. But in the real world, I'd use the thai style low roundhouse (shin).
  16. I heard of it. Just like in the NY, USA area, Tae Kwon Do Moo Duk Kwan is un-heard of (my dojang style). But it's here If you like it, do it.
  17. Oxy-clean! My uniform doesn't get stains, but my boyfriend's does. I use Oxy-clean and it works wonders .... for him anyways. We have hard water, so if we use bleach, our whites turn yellow, and the Oxy-clean (or anything similar) will remove it after a few washes. Or a good soaking in cold water and Oxy-clean does the trick
  18. I pulled my hammy pretty bad a year ago. Now I have a messed up knee, but that's about it.
