  1. I could look up schools in your area for you, if you like? What town do you live in? We can go from there. I'll find ones with websites, and explain them later. But it's best for you to look in the phone book and give us a list of styles you have in your area.
  2. My school is WTF affiliated, but we usually attend "open style" tournies (I think).
  3. Do you mean three month for each rank or belt? Then 6 months on each rank after blue? I'm just wondering, because my boyfriend still goes to the main school.
  4. I've been training for almost three years (in October), and I'm just a 5th gup/kyu. I'm in no rush. It took me this long because I moved, then I got stuck with a school I wasn't happy with. Then I found this one. I am happy here Hopefully I won't have to move again in the near future.
  5. Hiya. I did a search on another MA search engine I use with a 20 mile radius from the above zip code. Here's what I came up with: http://www.blackbelts.ca/fma Doesn't mention the style (unless I over looked it). http://www.tangsoodosites.com/lbtsda Tang Soo Do Red Dragon Karate 2983 Chino Ave. Ste. A-7 Chino Hills, CA 91709 Doesn't mention style. That's three more for ya to look at
  6. When I do a breaking class or test, I listen to Limp Bizkets "Break Stuff." hehehehehe. Last breaking clinic, it worked. I only missed one break outta ten I listen to just about anything before regular class. Anything up-beat, and rockin to get me phyched.
  7. I used to be this shy kid with a bad temper and no self esteem. I still have a bad temper but I can control it now. I have more confidence, and I'm outgoing. Sometimes, too much, I think. Sometimes I say stuff I don't mean. I guess that's something else I need to work on.
  8. 48 I can barely do 25 .... on a good day LOL. Bad wrists. I don't eat before class. It does make me sluggish. I try to eat for energy, but no sooner than two hours before class. Everyone is different. I knew a kid that would just fall over if he didn't eat before class. I would say adjust your eating habbits for workouts, and see what happens.
  9. In my TSD dojang, hand strikes to the head were allowed (and take-downs), so it would be like the good ol' days if it does happen
  10. I think it's every three months till we get to red. I donno yet, cause I am allowed to double test. I'll find out when I get my blue belt again (I'm no longer allowed to double test then).
  11. I like the wood floors. My first school had a raised wood floor. Great for hyungs (forms) and falling and stuff. But we did use mats if we were doing a lot of falling, but it wasn't really needed, because the floor had "give." My school now has carpet, underneath is concrete ..... ouch. We did self defense yesterday (no mats) which involved take-downs, and what hurt worse than the joint locks was the floor Even for me, and I'm good at falling.
  12. Hey, interesting. I just started meditation with my instructor, so I kinda understand what you are talking about Welcome to KF
  13. I just quit a job I liked in a way. The owners were very nice, but the job stunk I hate working nights. I didn't have time for my honey. I work in a Feed store now (sells all kinds of feeds from dog and cat food, to horse feed. Plus other pet related goodies). I work day shift, full time (almost .... 32 hours), which is much better than part time. The owners have two stores (I work both), and they are very nice people. I like animals, too, so this is a good job for me I'd like to open my own school in about 5 years (or when I get my 4rd dan, which ever comes first). My honey and me are planning for it. We have bills also, but he has stocks, and retirement coming. I'm going to take classes to be a fitness and nutrition person, plus classes on small business management. When the time comes, he'll take retirement, and sell his stocks. Plus we are saving for it, even if it's just a few bucks a week.
  14. That's one of my counter grappling moves for purple belt (we have three for rear choke). We stomp on shin (with shoes, this hurts like a b**ch!) and when he loosens his grip because of the pain, turn and apply a figure four arm bar/joint lock. You can even do a throw from there. But this one is kinda risky if you are not quick.
  15. My school offers TKD, Meditation, servival training (in the summer), a Japanese archery art (it's through my school but not practiced there), and Kali.
  16. My dojang splits the kids classes by rank, but not the adults. The same with my old TSD dojang. I liked it. I can work with higher ranks and learn faster.
  17. I'm shocked!! You? Hehehehehe yep. Master K heard me a few times, too LOL ....... ooops
  18. Well? I saw this popping up in another topic, so I figured I start one on it I did a search thinking there was a topic like this, but didn't find one. Mine is from the Karate Kid movies (as if you couldn't tell LOL) with my birth year. What's yours?
  19. fireka, change your name, if you like. Just send Patrick a PM of your new name. But you did bring up an interesting topic that I think we had on here once. "reasons for your screenname." EDIT: I did a search and didn't find one so maybe I will start it Check out General chat for details
  20. Hey, Welcome to KarateForms. I will move this to the Intro forum so you will get more "hi's" Brouz around to see what you like
  21. I did see a doc when I hurt it. She gave me the brace LOL. She said I hyperexcended (sp?) it, and I should lay off TKD for a while, and so I did. But She didn't say anything about "strengthening" the knee. I did some research, and I found if you strengthen the knee, it will stop some of the pain. I don't have the print-outs on hand, but it is worth a try, I think
  22. Black belt is a goal for me, but yet, it's just the beginning of my long MA road. When I get my BB, it's time to give back for what I have learned as a color belt, but learn and grow more as I keep training. Here's a saying my TSD instructor often said to those who thought BB was the "end": Color belts learn the basics, BB's learn how to USE the basics
