  1. But you get through it. Life sucks only if you let it. There will be death's, health problems (I have had a few already), ect. But if you are strong, you can get through it.
  2. I don't on my uniforms, but on my belts, I do. Don't know why, I just do.
  3. In TSD, I was taught to use the ball of the foot no matter what. In TKD. I use the instep for sparring (for safety reasons), ball of the foot for techs, forms and breaking. We are even taught to use the ball of the foot (except in sparring) in TKD.
  4. Geez. That sounded like my year in 2004. I lost my dad, and 4 friends. 1 to suicide, and three to cancer. Plus my grandmom had a stroke (after having triple bypass surgery after a heart attack in 2002). She's still kickin thank goodness. That was such a stressful year ..... I hope to never repeat it.
  5. LOL John. I'll try. I actually keep hurting myself at work, not MA .... maybe that's a sign that I should hit the lotto and retire hehehehehehe
  6. I agree with Menjo. I learned some stuff off of videos, but I had training under an instructor (for years) before doing so. If you are a beginner, this would be stupid. You can either injure yourself, or someone else for the wrong reasons. Find a good instructor.
  7. LOL, yep. I don't think my knee is anywhere near as bad as yours tho. Mine will heal in a few weeks (I hope).
  8. Thanks Niel I just noticed that LOL. It's all good tho I just turned 31. She don't look her age. Take my word for it.
  9. I call my brother numbnuts, cause he's a dork, and sometimes makes bad choices LOL
  10. Erm .... I don't think I will be testing now. I also wrecked my knee. So I have no choice to wait, now I will NOT test in this condition just for the reason you mentioned. Thanks for your advice tho
  11. Me too. Actually "high red" now (as it's known in TKD) I passed my test in Dec. So that's 1st gup/kyu for me FINALLY LOL.
  12. I did test for high red later than expected. But I aced the test (after failing the first time around). I was supposed to test for BB this April (06), but I just wrecked my knee pretty bad. So it probably won't happen. Like I said before, I'm in no rush. My time will come.
  13. Thanks unknownstyle. Thats what I was thinking. But I know I will be asked to test in April, but there's nothing wrong with declining (in a nice way of course).
  14. I go 4 days a week (three for TKD, one for Jujitsu). When I did TSD, I went 6 days a week as a beginner. I felt that was too much (with a full time job and all). I cut it down to 4 and kept it like that for the time that I studied TSD and it worked out great. Like it was mentioned above, becareful not to overtrain. You can burn youself and/or your body out. I almost did in the beginning. So I picked classes that I have a day off in between each class. Except for saturdays when I do both TKD and Jujitsu. Even that can get a bit rough (depending on what we do in Jujitsu).
  15. Hey all. Ok, I was going to test in April. Then I decided not to (because of the surgery). Then we did a "power camp physical test" drill and I know I can pass that part. Ok, our "power camp" is usually two weeks to a month before the actual test that includes 30 sit ups, 30 push ups, 30 side crunches each side, 50 "super man's" (reverse crunches or whatever you call them ... laying on your tummy and raising your head to the roof), and 30 leg lifts (men do 50 each). We have to do this stuff in 4.5 minutes. Plus a 1 and 1/2 mile run in 13 minutes. Then there's the rest of the day ... 8 hours ... of the curriculum stuff, sparring, and breaking. I didn't do the sit ups do to surgery, but the last time we did this drill, I beat the "female requirement" of 30. I did 55 sit ups, 45 leg raises, and I just recently did 30 push ups (even with bad wrists). The problem is the run. I am so out of shape (do to surgery), and my cardio sucks. I haven't done none of the above for 2 months (or more), and I have never done the run. The test is a piece of cake. I did the test part when I did my 1st gup test (twice). But I have never done the power camp. I know I can do the 4.5 minute physical thing (it's just a matter of timing myself and going at it for a few weeks), and the 8 hours of curiculum stuff ... But the run is going to kill me. I just got the word from my doc that I can go back to training "normally (sit-ups, crunches, sparring, ect)." If you know me, I am also "anal" about testing. If I know I can't pass the test, I won't do it. I can do the above stuff (except for the run), but my technique has also suffered. I don't know my new form yet, and my technique got sloppy ... real sloppy. And I'm forgetting stuff. No joke. What should I do? Should I wait till the summer to test for BB, or rack my brain with the run (training for the run in two months and learning my new form) for April? HELP?!?!?!?!!? Thanks in advance.
  16. LOL. Mr. Mike. Ok, I donno if that's true or not. But it was funny.
  17. Wow - I'm the complete opposite I go outside during storms to watch the lightning... for some reason, I am completely fascinated by storms. although I do remember standing on the porch of our house once, and seeing lightning hit a street light less than 50 yards away... I think I went back in the house for the rest of that storm My fears - heights!! I don't know why - but I have always had this fear of heights.... although I can somewhat control it, if the experience is really worth it (Going up the Eiffel Tower was cool) - so at least that's better than nothing. Wow! My mom is like you. She loves storms. But she was in the room when I almost got struck, but it didn't change her. I think the thunder is pretty cool though. I don't wanna see the lightning, but I like thunder (go figure LOL). I never really had a problem with heights. As a friend called me (after an outting at Six Flags), the coaster queen! The taller and the faster, the better
  18. Mine is a quote from Gichin Funakoshi. "The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants." The above is the reason I do martial arts, the perfection on character. I won't bore you with my life story, but martial arts helped me with charater building. Inside and outside of MA.
  19. Spiders?? Snakes?? Na. I pick up spiders by their legs, and I have picked up a snake (non-venimous) to get it out of the house because my man freaked. How it got there, donno. I think the poor thing was more scared of me than anything else LOL. Critters don't scare me. But one thing of nature does. Lightning *shivers*. I don't fear snakes, but I will hide under the bed if I see lightning. Well, I'm not that bad now, but I WILL NOT go outside or sit near a window during a storm. Reason is, I almost got struck by lightning INSIDE a house. I almost got struck as a kid outside also. Just talking about it gives me the creeps .....
  20. My jujitsu instructor. He is just flat out awsome. He really knows his stuff. And my best friend (someone from this messege board). She is awsome, also. Both have been in two or more martial arts. They know a lot about other MA's as well. Like TaeKwanDoAfficianado said, I'd probably be the weak link, though (specially after Jujitstu class tonight. I felt like such a white belt. I was so clumsy and had brain farts .... wait. I am a white belt ... oops).
  21. I forgot injuries that I have givin out. Well, we usually fight as our partner fights (match their ability, ect). But when I sparred a kid (16 I think) that hit too hard on 11 year old girls (any girl for that matter), I almost KO'ed him on purpose. I thought I was going to get yelled at for it, but HE got the lecture. And I'm female. Go figure. I KO'ed another girl also, for the same reason. I don't spar in tournies, so I never injured anyone other than in class for the above reason.
  22. Arg! Eating ... yea. I like to cook, therefore I like to eat. Good thing I workout or I'd get like 400lbs fast ... no joke. My oldest sister is 350 from eating (family trait) and no exercise
