  1. I agree with AikiGuy. It depends on your schools rules. Try to find out what they are. As far as contact, I spar the way my partner spars. If they go hard, I will, too. If they perfer light contact, I'll go light. I perfer hard contact, but not everyone does, so it depends on the other guy/gal.
  2. LOL. Thanks Heidi Neat new thread here Yep, I'm going to my graduation thing today, and the dinner they have afterwards. I'll make sure I take lots of pics Thanks all.
  3. There's also https://www.martialinfo.com . If you scroll down a bit, on the left you will find "styles" and there's links and articles for each one.
  4. Hey all. Just an update. I am going back to work tomorrow. Of course, I am limited on what I can do, but I need to get out of the house. I'm bored to death LOL. I also went to the dojang tonight to visit with everyone, and to let them know how I was. They were totally amazed that I was up and walking already (must be that MA training LOL). It was torture just sitting there watching my class instead of training I am also going to my graduation on saturday Lets see if that will go over well with my sore tummy LOL. I think I will be ok, though, as long as I wear my belt really loose. I'll let you know how the graduation is.
  5. Are you positive it was Discovery channel? I looked for it in the listing and I couldn't find it. I'd like to check it out if it repeats
  6. Thanks guys. Well, I'm doing pretty good. I'm not in a lot of pain at all (a little pressure, but not bad). The surgery went well, so all in all, it was a good day. I had visitors and supporters here at home, so I'm in good spirits. And thanks to all of you for your well wishes and prayers The only downfall is, I can't train for, at least, three weeks But I WILL be at my graduation ceremony hehehehehe.
  7. Ditto. Yea, how'd ya do Doug? Give us the juicy details LOL
  8. Hey all. Tomorrow is the big day. Wish me luck on my surgery. I'll keep you all updated even if I have to crawl into my office to post
  9. Cool photos neil Looks like you were tired, but it also looked like you enjoyed throwing the other guy around LOL.
  10. Yep I passed. I should get the official word tonight and my brand new belt. Cant wait! Laurie here tested too so give her a pat on the back as well. Thanks neil and tufrthanu Yes, so far so good. I did pass (a little birdy told me, and lots of "hints" say I did). I won't get the "official" word till a week or so. I'll keep ya posted neil, you should post a pic with your new belt I'll do the same in two weeks (well I'll have my big black stripe, not my black belt .... yet ).
  11. I did both arts. I was in TSD first. And yes, there were those that bad-mouth TKD, myself included. BUT from what I have seen, these same people NEVER saw a real TKD dojang. I ate my words when I found this TKD dojang after I moved here. Yes, we have "sport" for those who want it, but this is a very good art. We mainly focus on techniques, defenses, ect. This dojang is very similar to my TSD dojang (except for the forms and sparring rules, that's the only difference).
  12. This is a little late, but Happy Turkey day, everyone!
  13. Ok, this was my last situation in July. I was not ready to test (in my opinion). But everyone thought I was (including my instructor). So I went for it. I failed. I knew deep down inside that I wasn't ready. BUT I re-tested last weekend and I passed with flying colors. Go figure. I can see if someone isn't ready or doesn't feel ready, like me. That's fine. But there is a point where you wait TOO long. That's not good either. The best thing is, talk to your sensei. If you don't feel ready, talk to him and tell him why. He might be able to give you advice. Specially with your injury. Let him know what's going on.
  14. Not yet. I still have one more test to go. But I'll get there
  15. Thanks all. Good deal, niel0092! Good to hear you did good. I knew you did, and I never watched you. I chaced a guy going for BB, and few red belts round the dojang during the sparring part (like last time). I got more bruises from holding boards for people than I did the whole test. I got kicked in the hand twice, kicked in the arm once, and kicked in the the leg all by just holding boards for others. It was all in great fun though. I had a great time
  16. Hey all. I took my test today. I did really well. Well, I won't offically know until two weeks from now, but I nailed everything I did my breaks on the first shot. I nailed all my forms ... well, not true. I messed up one form, but didn't get caught LOL. I had a really good partner for the partner stuff (one steps, self defense, ect). And we pounded on each other. I had so much fun this time. It was so different from my last test (the one I failed). I felt "right" about it. Everything just "flowed." I wasn't even nervous. It was great! It was the best test yet Ok, niel0092. Spit it out. How'd ya do? I know you did good, but give us details hehehehe.
  17. hehehehe. Good idea I can be a "mooch" for a week hehehehehe (I have to stay in bed anyways LOL). And yes, I have done meditation, which I will be doing lots of next month. That is a good suggestion about catching up on MA history. I'll do that Thanks all for your support. I'll keep ya updated.
  18. Thanks. There's a thread that niel0092 started about the test in the Korean arts form where I'll post details ... oops speaking of which, I need to go to sleep (need my beauty sleep for the test hehehehe).
  19. Well you got the TKD ones, so I'll name the TSD ones that I remember. Kicho 1-3 Pyung ahn 1-5 Bassai (Sho & Dai) Nahanchi (sp?) 1-3 I don't know what comes after that.
  20. In our system (which is a hybrid of TKD and kung fu), we learn all 8 Taeguk forms and two chinese forms (one bo, and one empty hand) before BB. We do have formal testing for red belts (going for seniour red or high red) and BB's. We have to know all 10 forms, 10 step sparring, 10 combat tactics (love these ... lots of elbows and knees hehehehe), and 20 defensive tactics (defenses against various graps using Chin Na and takedowns). Plus basics, breaking, and sparring. This is what I have to do tomorrow, that is (I'm going for seniour red).
  21. In Jujitsu, we have only 3 colored belts (I love this idea ) before black. There are 2 kyu grades for each though. white, 6th kyu (me) white 5th kyu green 4th kyu green 3rd kyu brown 2nd kyu brown 1st kyu Then the dan grades. In TKD, we have 8. white orange yellow green purple blue brown red (me) senior Red (or high red) Then the dan grades
  22. Update here, too: I'm retesting this weekend for 1st gup/kyu. Wish me luck
  23. I did that once. I was messing around with a friend in NJ (when I was still in TSD), and he held a balloon for me. I did a roundhouse and popped it (after two tries) LOL Anyways, the stuff I have been doing alone (at home) as been crazy. I would do the whole curriculum everyday (that gets a little "sticky" with a bo in my living room LOL). I have a test on saturday, so I want to be ready Anyways, I would go through all my forms, then one step sparring, then (what we call) combat tactics. I would also use B.O.B. for these so I can actually have something to hit for accuracy, speed and power. I didn't practice our defensive stuff as much, because they involve throws, so I'd just go through the motions just before the throw part. Unless my honey is home, then I'd throw him around a bit hehehehehe.
