  1. Thanks Heidi. You just reminded me I need to go over the precepts, too. hehehehe
  2. Thanks. My mom will be there (she seen me train once 4 and 1/2 years ago, and she is coming up from NJ just to see me test My jujitsu instructor might be there (he helped me with the self defense portion of my TKD test), and one of my good friends from work. So, yea. It may be a little nerve racking, but I'm ready this time I'll let you know what happens. You do the same, niel0092
  3. My test is this saturday, too (1st gup test). I have a pretest on thursday. I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us
  4. Your welcome gojupralgo. And you're right. I do strive to improve. I always find ways to improve. Like something as simple as (as Heidi put it) doing your form "like you mean it!"
  5. Cool stories, gojupralgo and Iceman I do have other mentors. My Tang Soo Do instructor (my first). He was just a regular guy in street clothes. He laughed and joked with students, ect. But when he put on his dobok, watch out! Boy, was he a tough cookie LOL. Still is (I train with him once in a while when I visit home). I give him a lot of credit also for my technique. Though it's not perfect, I still have good technique for my rank, because he was tough on technique. He was picky. He made me into the technique geek that I am today.
  6. orion82698, you'll get one. Like gheinisch explained, a mentor doesn't have to be martial artist. My non-MA mentors would have to be my parents and my Grandmom. They taught me values (or tried to at times LOL), and made me who I am. Well with that and the values of MA, made me what I am today.
  7. That happened to me (I think I posted it here before). One of my first classes in Tang Soo Do, I had a brand spanking new uniform (the traditional style), and we were practicing lapel grap defenses. Well, with me being a brand new white belt, I didn't think to wear a tank top or sports bra under my dobok. I had a regular bra on and nothing else under my dobok. My partner grapped me and I attemped to excape, and something else excaped ...... Good thing my partner was a girl. That made me go out and buy sports bras for training. I wear tank tops for jujitsu.
  8. My instructor has the one with the prong, but we don't use it for training. THAT would hurt LOL. I gotta learn the wrist lock ones I'll ask him about it.
  9. LOL IcemanSK. Yes, one does involve "poking" someone in the chest area (in a foreward thrust action). If done right, you can move someone and it hurts like heck (my instructor did it to me ... OUCH). And the other does involve the arm. You can use it by grapping the arm (in the douple hand on one arm fashion), wrapping the kobotan with your thumbs and applying pressure on the arm with the kobotan on the pressure point on the forearm. That hurts like heck, too. I dropped to the ground when he did it to me! There's another where you take the "butt" of the kobotan and apply pressure the pressure point on the back of the hand. I haven't got that one down yet. The last one is "nasty." It's similar to the first one, but you grap them and spin them around with the above technique. And you apply pressure to the same pressure point in the chest (believe me, they won't move. It hurts! LOL), or the neck (where the soft part of the neck is above the breast bone).
  10. ShotokanKid, I agree with you. I have been a member of KF for 3 years or so. And I enjoyed every minute of it. Everyone here has a lot to share, and it boost my knowledge of other martial arts. And everyone is so helpful. Job well done on KF, Patrick And thanks to the mods for "keeping the peace" so to speak
  11. I got a good "teaching on Bunkai" last night. My form was kinda ok, but my teacher last night said, "pretend this person is trying to kill you." I didn't have to pretend because I was in a self defense situation a few times in my life. But that made my form better for todays tourny. Anyways, I know it's kinda not the topic, but if you train hard, it will get you results. Train like you mean it.
  12. Good story, Gene I have to admit that my mentor is ninjanurse. We worked hard last night on technique for forms, and she blew me away with the knowledge she has (she always does LOL), and I got second in a tourny today for that workout. I beat out a few black belts that I didn't think I would beat, but I did (I'm only a red belt 2nd gup/kyu). I also beat out the same lady that beat me last tourny, too (she was a green belt at the time). I give her (ninjanurse) the credit. I was also told that one of my other instructors was blown away with the "change" in my form. She was like "wow!" This is the same person that scored me low in the last tourny (because I was sloppy). She asked my boyfriend what did I do to change my form. He told her, "coaching from a dear friend." I thought that was awsome
  13. I trained in Jujitsu tonight, and my jujitsu instructor's wife is in TKD. We invited them to dinner, and we just trained (Jujitsu AND TKD) and had a great talk about MA over dinner (this isn't the first time we trained like this). Right now, I can't think of any famous MA'ist that would beat them as far as my mentors. They have so much info when it comes to MA. Both are pretty dang good, too. Anyways, I want to know who is your mentors (famous people don't count) and why. I'll go into details later with mine.
  14. I say sub now, because I have been in NY for so long. But the other day at work, someone from out of state asked for a hoagie and the person I was working with looked so confused LOL. I said, "It's the same thing as a sub." They asked me later how I knew what a hoagie was and I told them about moving here from NJ and what the "terms" were. But the look on her face was so funny (you had to be there LOL).
  15. I know, Heidi hehehehehehe
  16. I don't listen to music when I train hardly, but I have done forms/kata to Taiko drumming (Japanese drumming) groups like Kodo.
  17. I have one on my keychain now. You can use it many different ways (pressure point strikes, ect). I learned a few in Jujitsu, but Heidi could explain it better than me. It's hard for me to explain it without showing you, too.
  18. Or Google your town and state with the word Karate or martial arts in the search bar.
  19. I agree, Balrog. I am a female. And I will use whatever works in a self defense situation
  20. Hehehehehe. I agree. Yea, the drumline could have done something like martial arts skit or something LOL
  21. You have Wawa there, too? Coolness I never heard of a "steak sub" being called a hoagie. That's a new one to me. We called it (in NJ) a cheese steak hoagie. Go figure
  22. Hitman, that is COOL! I'm a drummer, too, but I never thought of that. I thought about how to use drumsticks as weapons, but nothing like nunchaku. I GOT to try that
  23. Thanks all I'm a strong person. I can handle it But yes, I will miss training ALOT! But if I pass my test (11/19), I'm still going to the graduation (12/10)
