  3. Almost any MA store carries the Korean style heavyweight uniform. If you have a favorite uniform now, you can just but the trim for it, and have a seamstress put it on

  7. Gun running is illegal, while teaching martial arts is not Using your martial skill to hurt or kill someone for the sake of it is immoral, while learning to develop yourself and protect yourself if necessary with your MA skills is not immoral

  9. Hmm...lets see, well my right knee is worse than my left. My lower back kills me after years of being thrown around. As of right now, I'm having a shoulder/neck problem, although I'm not sure how that happened. Fact is the years of training is starting to show it's signs. What's helped is the fact that I see my Chiropractor once a month, and I work on recognizing the signals my body sends to my brain saying.....hey, you ain't 20 anymore

  13. Hmm..sometimes being an independent isn't such a bad idea. So long as what you are providing is meeting the needs of your students and their parents. In this case, Karate. I can tell you from experience, that there is nothing worse than paying organizational dues, and then getting very little if anything in return. Especially when you defray some of the dues onto your students. My last point, what constitutes "legit"? I mean that is just as subjective as anything else out in the world. Just because you are a member of whatever organization, and provide poor karate doesn't make you "legit" in my mind
  14. Have a built-in special to the flyer. Like a free class, or 2 weeks for 20 bucks or something. That way it'll entice prospective students to show up and give your dojo a try.
  15. Although I don't necessarily see a problem with studying more than one art, politics will almost inherently rear it's ugly head when it comes to student loyalty.

  17. The larger and heavier, the less swing and bounce to the bag when you hit it.
  18. Remember there is always more than one way to learn/apply a technique. In fact over this weekend when I was going over some self defense techniques with a buddy of mine, I realized that I did not like the way I learned some of them back in the day, and had to make adjustments to them that worked better for me
  19. Nothing wrong with goal setting so long as they are not unrealistic. I tend to believe that being too hard on yourself is actually detrimental to your progression in whatever art you are studying.
  20. Yep...welcome
