I have a preference to the soft vinyl over the foam, but not all soft vinyl gear are the same. I have found some to be better than others

I just watched an episode last night, and thought that it sucked.....althought the light at the end of the tunnel is 25,000 G's....which is far better than any big tournament out on the circut today

Hello and welcome to the forum. Hope you find it helpful with regards to your son training in Kenpo. In terms of the particular style of Kenpo your son is studying, I'm afraid I am not too familiar with that branch. Perhaps you can share with us a lil more information on his dojo

From past experience, the Traditional tournaments only allow the use of the cloth/cotton gloves, but that too can be of a specific brand or style. Most Open tournaments use the vinyl or foam style sparring gear. From what I've see too is that many of the Traditional tournaments are transitioning to the vinyl type gloves, but made to their specifications, which usually fall under the WKA.

Hey Laurie, One thing is for certain.....you won't forget all that you've accomplished in your years of training. Good luck to you and see ya around Gene

Brand is usually a matter of prefrence. Many like the Japanese/Okinawan uniforms like Tokaido or Shureido. They just cost you and arm and leg depending on your location. Some like the less expensive ones like Century, Pro Force, Juka, etc. So it really comes down to you and your personal prefrence.

training under the grandmaster
Pacificshore replied to younwhadoug's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
When I started in the Kara-Ho Kempo system, I was fortunate to have Grandmaster Kuoha train me as I was learning their cirriculum. I still remember when he was instructing me on how to do a lay-out kick in one of their intermediate forms. Man, that kick just killed me and still does to this day, but when I watched Grandmaster perform the kick, I was in awe. He was in his early to mid 50's I believe, and he landed like a cat...a big cat at that! Too bad at the time he showed me what the kick was suppose to look like that I didn't have the video running. Otherwise, I am fortunate to have been able to work out with him in a 1 on 1 situation. -

A DRUNK DRIVER RAN INTO OUR DOJO!!!
Pacificshore replied to parkerlineage's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Make sure to have the drunk driver come back as part of his/her community service to discuss the ills of drinking and driving, and then to have them clean up the dojo after every business day -
Here is another, perhaps with clearer illustration http://www.bujindesign.com/use_hakama.html

Having met Marcus at the Ozawa Cup in April and seeing his Tokon gis in person, I can say that they are top quality. I had purchased my friend the Okinawa model, and she loved it So you can't go wrong with Tokon if your are buying it here in the U.S.

I believe they do sell plain belts, you just have to look at what you want, and I believe they price them for embroidery and plain

1 3/4 width. I have a 2" one, and don't much care for it as well

This perhaps one of my favorite Shotokan katas. For a hardstyle kata, it moves quiet well utilizing both speed and power, as well as utilizing angle movements, and incorperating circluar movements at the end. I am competing this next week at a tournament, and have decided on doing Nijushiho as my primary kata, backed up by Anaku in case of a tie
