  1. Welcome
  2. Even if there is no contact to the head/face, I'd make sure to wear my mouthpiece all the time, cuz the dental bills just be outrageous, not to mention all the other associated factors of taking a good shot to the chops
  3. I've done well with the following katas: Jitte:came in 2nd at one tourney Gojushiho-sho:came in 1st at another tourney Nijushiho:came in 3rd at yet another tourney Mind you this is as far back as 10 years ago And of all 3, my favorite is still Nijushiho
  4. Well, if it's run like many of the MA tourneys down here, it'll be a long day Make sure to pack plenty of snacks, even food for that matter, unless you want to spend more $$$. Don't forget the liquids as well, that is just as important as the snacks, if not more so As for multiple events going, there should be and depending on the size of the tourney, will depend on how many rings they have set up. Usually the have it set up to have all the kata events going in the morning, and the sparring by the afternoon. Like I said, it'll be an all day affair. Have fun and post your results after
  5. Kara-Ho Kempo organization
  6. Why wouldn't you use the techniques that work for you in sparring Sure you want to work on new techniques, but at the same time I don't see the need to put away the other tecniques you've picked up from previous training. Afterall sparring is about putting all your basics together defensively and offensively
  7. Can't say that I have. However, it would be ill advised to have any further contact to that area. Only time will heal you, and you already know that. Get better and in no time you'll be back at it again By the way, welcome to the forum. Enjoy your stay
  8. Now that was funny! Never attempt back flip while intoxicated....let alone swing nunchuks
  9. Have you tried looking it via google? If you have and still haven't found a way to do it correctly, see if you can find an issue of Inside Kun-Fu magazine, June 2000. There is an entire article dedicated to handwrapping properly. Maybe you can go to IKF's website and archive the article to see if they have it on-line with the pics.
  10. What makes the two schools you've listed more "street" worthy than Kajukenbo, or any other martial art out there As for the travel question....well that depends on how dedicated you are in your training, an hour is nothing in my book
  11. I have 2 versions of Kenpo that I've learned. Mostly similiar to one another, and at the sametime very different. In similarity would be the self defense techniques, and the difference would be the katas. I find that I am able to remember most of my "old" Kenpo training as I study my "new" Kempo system. I tend to incorporate some of the drill work from my old system into my new system, and when working on my former material, execute the techniques/drills like I've learned from my new system. So far what has helped me separate the two when needed are my written or visual aides that I have of both systems.
  12. I just watched Blade 3 and like it. Gonna have to buy it for my DVD collection
  13. welcome aboard!
  14. Yeah that should work out so long as she does sew back the extra material from the bottom
  15. http://www.karatedepot.com/?AID=805598&PID=839040&SID=943211R50108P6959T142948009&afsrc=1 Is another good place to check out, plus cheap shipping Macho uniforms are nice, at least I like the one I have I've ordered from them on several occasions, never had problems with them
  16. Ahh...so that has been the prob. No wonder why my virus window keeps poppin up when I'm lookin' around. At least my anti-viurs is working then
  17. When you do take them in to be altered, make sure you tell whoever that you want them done exactly like the way they are originally done. I say this because there is a second peice at the bottom of the pant leg cuff. If you don't show them that peice, they can simply sew 10 extra stitches along the bottom of the pant legs. I've had that done before, and it's not the same thing. The double cuff at the end of the pant leg adds for a lil weight too. Oh, and don't wash whites with colors...it just goes against standard washing protocals

  19. Don't know much about that particular school ad you posted, as there is not much to go by. See if you can find out some type of lineage to the school, not that it may make a difference in how they conduct business. See if the instructor comes from the Mattera line of Shaolin Kempo(USSD), the Demasco line(USSD east coast version), Villari line(Also East Coast area), or Ralph Castro's line(Westcoast-Shaolin Kenpo). Maybe he simply decided to open his own school 29yrs. ago and belongs to no formal organization. Also look for Decascos Won Hop Kune Do, a Chuan Fa side of Kajukenbo. Just my 2 cents
  20. Here in California we have a zero tolerance for drinking and driving for juveniles. They can have a .01 blood alcohol, and BAM...no more license to drive.
  21. Yes, with a provisional license.
