  5. Just look for the wax wood staff. Usually about 7' long, and tapers down to one end. If it's too long then cut down to size on the back end
  6. Man....I'm so glad I train for myself, and can think for myself, and don't walk around each day wondering when my next street confrontation will be
  7. Nothing worse than a smelly partner, let alone if your contributing because of not washing your uniform
  8. Choose with what you feel is right. Don't worry about the belt level. Your past experience will easily guide you through at a quicker pace than those just starting out from square one
  9. Sometimes you get a simple question and end up with a complex answer, and sometimes the question is complex, but ends with simple answer In all seriousness, plenty of good varying answers which leaves food for thought.
  10. Generally speaking, most TKD uniforms are a Poly/Cotton blend with a V-neck style pull over jacket, and the pants almost always come with an elastic waist. In my opinion, I think they are roomier than most karate uniforms.
  11. The liquid Tide w/bleach has been recommended for most gi's.
  12. Shoot if I had a reason to wear a white gi, I would have jumped on that...too bad the only black one they had for sale was a size 3.5
  13. Never really used the clear plastic shield one, so wouldn't know how much it would fog up, or how easy it would fog up. I've used the cage one, and they seem to work better..at least no fog factor Since I got rid of my full face headgear, I keep the cage in the storage closet
  14. At one point I suscribed to it...then it just got bad, especially when they started advertising non-martial arts related stuff I just got a subscription to Buo International USA. A lil better than BB magazine
  15. Not quite sure what you mean by "Kempo" speed striking, but what I like to do when working with focus pads is compounding my strikes almost simultaneously. For example, whether it's a jab or back knuckle I'm throwin out there, it is immediately followed by the cross, so it kinda creates a "double tap" if you will of strikes. You can also work on block/strike drills, whether you block with one arm and strike at the sametime with the other, or you do both with one arm. Lastly, in Kempo, at least what I study, when we strike, we like to follow up with other strikes based on how the body reacts to an initial strike. So say for example, I punch at the solar plexus, and the reaction is to bend forward, I may have my secondary strike travel up towards the chin using the same hand, or drop an elbow onto the back of the head, or if it bends the person over enough, a rising knee to the face.... I would not be as so bold to say that this is only germaine to Kenpo/Kempo arts, but it is something that is highly emphasized in the art. Hope this helps
  16. From the description that the original poster was describing, it sounds like a California Penal Code Statute. There is 242PC, which is Battery upon a person, and that is the unwanted touch upon a person, which could include, but not necessarily limted to a mere touch, push, slap, punch, bump, or spitting. This crime is a misdeamenor Where it can become a 245PC-ADW(Felony) is when you continue to beat down on someone using your hands/feet, and they have no way of defending themselves or fighting back. Even if say you were the "victim" of an initial assualt, and you defended yourself to the point of making an escape and seeking help, but instead you decide/choose to finish the attacker off for "victimizing" you, then the tables are turned, and you now become the "suspect". The right to defend yourself is never an issue, it just depends on how far one goes to defend themselves that come into question. Of course there will always be variables in any situation...ie, witnesses, armed vs. unarmed, size, location-out in public vs. private residence, overall circumstances. So if your unfamiliar with your State/Country Statues, maybe learning what they are can save you some grief down the road if need be
  17. Hey they were just regrouping If that were here in the US, the police would have just dumped him....I'm sure in Japan, the use of deadly force option is something completely different. In the end, no officers were hurt, and the bad guy went to jail
  18. Also check out the Ronin Brand. They have a 16oz. Super Heavyweight for $59.95....regularly $74.00, just do a search under Ronin Gi. I have one of their middleweights for many years, and it is still going strong, can't imagine how long the heavys would last
  19. Funny...I just had a sparring session yesterday where I sparred 2 very tall dudes. Both were about 6'3", with one of them having a wide build...not fat/obease(sp). The other thin with albatross arms I myself am a short guy at 5'6", so not only did I give up the height, but the reach too .....However, what I worked on was my timing so that I could jam their attacks. Worked out for the most part, but I did take a few shots. If I allowed them to keep me at their range, it would have been a very long day for me I was successful with the front leg sweep on the tall thin guy, but not so much on the bigger guy. Came down to weight really. Trying to sweep the bigger guy, was like trying to kick out a tree trunk Also I went for a groin kick on the bigger guy, and ran into his tree trunk size thigh. Eventually I was successful, but it was all about the timing and angle Needless to say, I was very fortunate since it has been a while since I last sparred anyone of that size
  20. Welcome
