Lead leg fighting
Jay replied to Belasko's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
speed wins fights and if you wanna be fast youve got to punch or kick from your lead leg -
Yes i would say no because i belive that Jeet Kun Do was specifically for bruce and there are only a few like Dan Inasanto that are certified teachers Some of the stuff will get lost or changed rather like chinese whispers it seems to me he has added and aranged the shotokan sylabus and called it JKD i am the same build as you as i am the same height and weight whats the chances? i would prefer do do an athletic martial art which this isnt if it is based on shotokan i think you should keep up your training and think before makign any decisions a couple of weeks wont make a difference take your time and research

This in reality is a no win situation if the attcker is stronger and heavier than you. I am a firm beliver in a clean fight however if my life is at risk i would probably spit in his face to distract him then quickly free you other arm and double strike to the throat then get up and run away or call the cops depending on the situation

yeh aikido is the most versatile art to fitting people requirements i once saw a person in a wheel chair doing it and with his wrist locks he actually won the wrist lock tournament pretty good hey. Im only 16 and the shotokan stances are natural to me now but for a person learning them who is injured it would be difficult and your kness do hurt even after training and i have been doing it a long time I actually recommend wing chun the stances are high and it focuses on hand techniques the back is generally uprite so i think that could be good for you.

There is a suttle difference i learn form videos and books etc to become a better martial artist these people dont have a background therefore they will not be able to just learn it. All martial arts and prodominantly the same all use the hands and feet. They will not be able to learn if they are untrained. A trained person will use this a a valuable resource you cannot learn from a book with no background. essentially i dont buy anything unless its good and that sounds rubbish

It is an excelant complement probabbly the best. My instructor of shotokan is also a tai chi instructor and our club includes both aspects. Sensei Kanzawa also knows tai chi. it is very simlar in the fact that everything is related. Try doing a gedanbarai with one hand and a sotoudeuke with the other this is a tai chi move very improtant just done with open hands. I haev done a bit and i can say that it is the closest thing you can get so i think thats a good thing. Alternatively if you dont want something similar i think you should go for something which shotokan doesnt have a lot of it in. Jujitsu is totall the opposite including throws and locks and types of chokes. This will make you a better all round martial artist but it will only help your shotokan when you do takedowns after a counter which you probably learn anyway.
