"Any TMA who conpeted and faired well cross trained in something, at some point." Yes , but the fact that it's a traditional style in the octagonis what I'm referring to.
"just look at chuck liddell" I think he's one of the best examples of traditional arts working in the ring.It shows that they are not just for show and you can use them.
well that was at my last school, which was like I said a rip off.At the school I'm at I only take the karate and weapons classes, because of time and dedication to the art.
"I feel somewhat lucky I guess, as in our school there are at least 23 katas practiced as part of the curriculum. We have katas that are taught before and after the Gekisai Kata that serve as transitional kata to prepare students for the koryu forms." Why do you have 23 katas?Goju Ryu is supposed to have 12 katas.Unless you have a bunch of other katas from other styles.
"yes our orginization doesnt really teach katas till green belt" why?in my school the started teaching me kata at white belt since I had previous experience in another style. Then for really new people to martial arts kata was at yellow belt.
All I can say is that I'm jelous. All the Goju people I've trained with are from my school.not that I don't like them,it's just that I would enjoy having experiences like you guys.
No problem, but in case you do go to school that does break boards, check to see if they have been pre cut.You can tell if the student is really giving it all if it isn't or of it is they probably just use it as a way to attract students.
